Rafael VAN DER VAART

Arsene Wenger saw his Arsenal side produce a stunning riposte to doubters with a 6-1 win at Everton and then prepared to spend a portion of the £38million raised in the transfer market after Real Madrid’s Rafael Van Der Vaart revealed he hopes to move to the Premier League.

Goals from Denilson, debutant Thomas Vermaelen, William Gallas, Cesc Fabregas (2) and Eduardo saw Wenger’s side romp to victory on the first day of the season as title rivals Chelsea recorded a last-gasp 2-1 win over Hull and Manchester City won 2-0 at Blackburn.
Despite Arsenal’s dazzling start, Wenger is considering strengthening the squad with 26-year-old midfielder Van der Vaart, who is available for just £6m after becoming involved in a bitter dispute with Real. (Mail on Sunday)

Well that was some performance yesterday but clearly Arsene Wenger still feels he needs to invest this summer, at least that is what this source would have us believe. Rafael Van der Vaart has been treated awfully by Real Madrid, who are still to give the Dutchman a squad number for the coming season.

The 26 year old attacking midfielder was one of the star performers at Euro 2008 and was snapped up by the La Liga side when Bernd Schuster was at the club and when the German was axed and replaced by Juande Ramos it became clear that the former Ajax man didn’t have much of a future at the club and recent Galatico signings have made that even more the case and new boss Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t appear to be keen on holding onto Rafael and hence a flurry of activity in recent days with many big clubs vying for attention.

He would be a great addition to out midfield adding even more creativity but where exactly could he fit in the current set-up?
