Arsenal Plan £6m Raid for Stylish Playmaker Van der Vaart!
by Alan Smith's Forehead on August 16th, 2009 309 words | 17 commentsBring it on!
Arsene Wenger saw his Arsenal side produce a stunning riposte to doubters with a 6-1 win at Everton and then prepared to spend a portion of the £38million raised in the transfer market after Real Madrid’s Rafael van der Vaart revealed he hopes to move to the Premier League.
Goals from Denilson, debutant Thomas Vermaelen, William Gallas, Cesc Fabregas (2) and Eduardo saw Wenger’s side romp to victory on the first day of the season as title rivals Chelsea recorded a last-gasp 2-1 win over Hull and Manchester City won 2-0 at Blackburn.
Despite Arsenal’s dazzling start, Wenger is considering strengthening the squad with 26-year-old midfielder Van der Vaart, who is available for just £6m after becoming involved in a bitter dispute with Real. (Mail on Sunday)
Well that was some performance yesterday but clearly Arsene Wenger still feels he needs to invest this summer, at least that is what this source would have us believe. Rafael Van der Vaart has been treated awfully by Real Madrid, who are still to give the Dutchman a squad number for the coming season.
The 26 year old attacking midfielder was one of the star performers at Euro 2008 and was snapped up by the La Liga side when Bernd Schuster was at the club and when the German was axed and replaced by Juande Ramos it became clear that the former Ajax man didn’t have much of a future at the club and recent Galatico signings have made that even more the case and new boss Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t appear to be keen on holding onto Rafael and hence a flurry of activity in recent days with many big clubs vying for attention.
He would be a great addition to out midfield adding even more creativity but where exactly could he fit in the current set-up?

Yes Arsene ,go for Van der Vaart as he will link up well with his fellow Hollander van Persie .Speaking the same language is a bonus as the opposition won,t understand the planned moves etc . between the two of them.Any Dutch player has great technique with added skills as we witnessed against Engand recently.

Well I am betweeen two horses with this guy! He is a talented player, no doubt and we can always use another attacking midfielder who comes on the cheap, so to speak. Plus he is keen to play in the EPL, but as Samuel rightly observed, where would he fit in? Once Nasri, Rosicky,Diaby and company are fit he may end up warming the bench again. At least Arsene would treat him with respect and he would probably work very well with RVP and Cesc. For 6M he is a bargain, since he is a regular National team player and has the Arsenal look about him. small in stature but agile, hard working and a good goal scorer, he could be a great depth player as the long hard games in Jan. & Feb. begin.

i cannot say i’ve seen much of van der vaart… but iv heard hes pretty decent, all i can assume is what i’ve seen off games like football manager and fifa, and from those… he seems like a great asset for 6 mil.
domhuaille, diaby is a nothing player atm.
he might be a filler like the forward situation at man city (too many strikers)… we will have rosicky, walcott, nasri and arshavin who all prefer an attacking mid/wing role… but nonetheless, we are injury prone and he could add some depth to an otherwise lacking substitutions bench
he’d be great for 6 mil, but if we have to really pursue his signature, it isn’t worth the hassle… we need a DM or another CM to help take the slack of cesc (not that he needs it… what a champ
)

Guys, diaby is defensive mid, so he plays in songs position. As far as things go though, you are right; when rosicky and nasri come back from injury, Van der Vart might struggle getting into the team…
That said, he would make a great replacement for van persie, cesc or arshavin when they need a break. Chris, cesc does need a break every now and then, the reason cesc didnt play so well last; is because we had worn him out the year before, by playing him almost every single match. Also Wenger subbed cesc on 71 mins, as he is trying not burnout cesc this year.

i know diaby is a defensive mid… and song isnt exactly a defensive midfielder… hes a mix of a defender, a def mid and a center mid… ridiculous.. he needs to sort himself out…
and perhaps walcott, arshavin or nasri (who can all play forward) could push up to make room for van der vaart (this could be a great option if we needed more attacking options late in a game).
for 6m its worth a go… as i said… he adds depth to an otherwise lost subs bench… and dw mate, i know cesc needs a break. im more than aware of cesc’s contributions needing time to recover.
if only we could nab a player of van der vaarts quality that plays DM rather than CAM… that’s the dream

As far as defensive mids go, theres velosa or maybe senna could do the trick? The thing with velosa, is I think he would probs soon become first choice and maybe not allow song or diaby to develop…

Please get Van der Vaart Arsene!
GAVIN - August 17th, 2009 at 2:31 am
this man is much better than diaby and song he just wernt given a chance at madrid hes quality check some of his golas for ajax hes never scared to have a crack from distance.he wud be a great addition to the squad
Chris - August 17th, 2009 at 4:22 am
hell yeh he’s better than diaby… he’s world class, he’s just now at a club whose bench is worth more than the stoke, burley and hull combined… miguel veloso is a growing player (which could fit with arsenals trend to buy them before they have hit their peak), i wouldnt agree with senna, he wouldnt go cheaply and wenger is a massive jew… if he doesnt get a bargain, NO DEAL! we need to sell off song, and loan diaby to a decent club like birmingham or someone of relative club level and buy a DM, but if we can nab VDV for 6… thats brilliant

Van Der Vaart will be a good addition to the squad. But Arsenal desperately needs a CB as a cover for Vermaelen and Gallas.
Arsenal for the title !!!!!

Looks like a rumour that might actually be true!
AW has always said he’s looking to strenghten in both attack and defense, should the right opportunity come.
The team lack a center midfield playmaker without Cesc and Van Der Vaart fits the bill. Merida and Ramsey are both too young and Nasri has a broken leg.
