CHELSEA have 24 hours to meet Sergio Aguero’s £50million get-out clause at Atletico Madrid.
The Argie star is set to face Panathinaikos in tomorrow’s Champions League qualifier unless the Blues increase their £42m bid.If Aguero plays, he will be cup-tied for Chelsea’s own European campaign this season – scuppering the deal.
Atletico insist they do not want to let the striker go.
And the Spanish club fear a backlash from their fans if they sell Aguero, 21, so close to the start of the season.
Missing out on anothermajor summer target would be a huge blow for Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti.
He was pipped by Real Madrid in the race to sign Kaka. And the Blues’ bid to land Bayern Munich ace Franck Ribery has also hit the buffers. (The Sun)
Clearly the moment any high profile player takes the field in a Champions League game he ceases to be of real interest to his potential suitors. Atletico Madrid fans will be praying they hear the name Sergio Aguero announced prior to their Qualifying game tomorrow and In all likelihood they will hear just that.
Roman Abramovich may well be desperate to spend big this summer and show that Man City are not the only British club capable of blowing a fortune, but at the same time the Russian Billionaire is a clever dealer and will not pay over the odds even if time is running out for him to make that big summer buy.
The Argentine himself may well be keen to see just how far he can go with the Spanish side but imagine if he plays and the club fall to the Greek side, what then?

Aguero is a classy player and I suspect he’d fit into any team. Liverpool can’t afford him as they are nearly bankrupt and aren’t a big club anyway and I doubt he’d go to Man City as they aren’t in the Champion’s League. He may be a Liverpool fan but he’d be mad to refuse an offer from Chelsea. I’m an Oldham Athlectic fan but if a club like Chelsea came knocking for my services, Oldham could go to hell for all I cared.
