Another Centre Back, but a very capable one!
Newcastle United’s much coveted centre-back Steven Taylor has gained another potential suitor in Premier League runners-up Liverpool.
The Newcastle Evening Chronicle claims the Reds are keen on the former England Under-21 captain, but will join Aston Villa and Everton in the battle for his signature.
Whilst Taylor has not expressed any desire to leave Newcastle he is widely regarded to be playing in a level below that of his ability. (Goal.com)
Not sure where the money for such a move would come for but at least it’s a decent centre back we are being linked with and that in itself is a bonus. The likes of Michael Turner have been mentioned as potential Liverpool players but a player like Steven Taylor would be far more promising. He used to be a bit of a ‘lump it’ merchant but now has calmed his game down and plays with a passion that has made him a cult hero at St James’ Park.
It is likely he will leave Newcastle United and that would be a nightmare for the club who has already sold two other centre backs back to the top tier, Habib Beye to Aston Villa and of course, as we found out to our cost on Sunday, Sebastien Bassong to Tottenham.
We need cover, as I have said, but given Taylor’s age, 23, he could be one worth nabbing for both the hear and now but also for the future. What chance does Benitez have getting the capital together though?
