Liverpool Set to Sign £2.5m Greek Defender!
by YNWA on August 18th, 2009 129 words | 48 commentsCan this really be true?

Skysports.com understands Liverpool are closing in on a shock move for former Rangers defender Sotiris Kyrgiakos.
Liverpool are in the market for defensive reinforcements and it is believed they have lined up a move for AEK stopper Kyrgiakos.
The Reds have been linked with the likes of Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross and Hull’s Michael Turner, but Kyrgiakos appears to be a cheaper option for Rafa Benitez.
With reports of Benitez having his transfer budget restricted Liverpool have switched their attentions to Kyrgiakos and they are believed to have agreed a €3million (£2.5million) fee with AEK for the 30-year-old. (Sky Sports)
Does anyone think this Rangers flop is good enough to put on a Liverpool jersey, because I sure as hell don’t think so!

Liverpool Press Office - August 18th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
It would be fair to say that Sotiris Kyrgiakos has on hell of a temper. He is a 6ft 3ins aggressive greek international defender……Lunatic
Warrenisaredfan - August 18th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Normally i would laugh off such an article, however, i have always seen Sky Sports as the most reliable source and so I fear this is in fact true. However, lets not be dispondent Rafa already has Carra, Skrtel, Agger and some good young players who can play their too. Therefore, Krygiakos will only be ‘cover’ in case of injuries etc. He will sign, but don’t forget Skrtel and Agger will be back soon enough!

a waste of 3mil

What happened to distan he would be a relief at the moment
Ald - August 18th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
Bring back Pellegrino or maybe Kromkamp. Josemi was one that got away wasn’t he? Didn’t Arbeloa slot across sometimes?
Or what about holding on to Whitbread or Hobbs just in case and then fuck#ng backing them????? Or just going with Ayala? Is this guy so fucking good to pay out 3mil that isn’t even there by the look of it
Warrenisaredfan - August 18th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
I think we are all forgeting one thing though and that is that if Krygiakos does sign for £2.5m then that puts the earlier reports that we have £1.5m to rubbish! Good news in my book! I hope Rafa proves us all wrong and signs another forward within the next two weeks……………………….

Why not try Sol Campbell as he is free… I’m sure he is good enough as a back up & he is English too!
Warrenisaredfan - August 18th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
‘Ald’ Pellegrino is one of our coaches now you nut!

“guillem balague muppet “, be patient, maybe at the end of the year, you will change your mind… I am AEK F.C. fan, and he is always better, not only grom my team’s CB, but from much more expensive players that you buy…
Ald - August 18th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
I don’t care if he’s the best coach in the world I’m talking about the guy that came in on teh cheap as a stopgap defender who looked completely out his depth in the EPL-myabe this Greek guy will go on to coach Ajax who knows
Mike - August 18th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
I am sure at the end of the season you will be surprised with Kyrgiakos! He is a great player. A very strong and effective deffender. In Greece he is called the urchin. In my opinion he can play in the best teams in Europe. The Greek market is just cheaper than the english one and AEK FC needed that money now! That’s why his price is so attractive!!!
Ryan - August 18th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Don’t bother talking sense Mike. Internet posters always know more than those paid to evaluate talent and help the club.
guillem balague muppet - August 18th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
its just a waste of money mihilas we need a winger and a front man not a cb i honestly hope hes decent but not what we need
Robbie - August 18th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
What a “superb” initial input. So if a player has played in Rangers he must be…crap and not good enough for a Liverpool Jersey!
Since you obviously have no clue about International football, wait to see Kyriakos playing. From all the crappy players i had heard till now for Liverpool he is much better!
Warrenisaredfan - August 18th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
‘muppet we need another defender end of. lets get behind him and hope he does the job!

Evening dibbler, Warrenisaredfan. …..
Warrenisaredfan – August 18th, 2009 at 9:28 pm …….. When they say rafa has £1.5m to spend i don’t think that they are mistaken. This means that he has £1.5m cash, now if this player cost £2.5m and he offers £1.5m and another £1m in six months time i would then be up to AEK F.C to except or not

LFC "Supporter" - August 18th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Agger Injured, Skrtel out for min four weeks, Carragher possible injuries. If Carragher is injured, would you play 2 inexperienced centre backs in a team that depends so much on a solid back four.
Stevo - August 18th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
We NEED another Hypia!
DIMITRI - August 18th, 2009 at 11:35 pm
I’m an AEK fan and i lived in the UK for ten years and have followed the Premiership every week. Kirgiakos played successfully in the Bundesliga before signing for us and he is in a good age and shape. I honestly believe that he can outstage some of your more expensive players. If this guy was Brittish and playing for Fulham or something -or even a championship side-, you would have more likely paid something around 8 mil to sign him. He is quality and i’m sad to see him go, but who turns down L’pool? Sadly not our chairman, not our CB and not our coach. And not even Europa league this season! Well done…..
Paddy - August 18th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
It’s true he’s been given number 6!!!!!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtel - August 19th, 2009 at 12:15 am
Why is everyone slating this potential signing? Okay, I would love to see the money go on different departments such as upfront or on the wings but if this is the only cash that we have, what class strikers or wingers can you sign that will improve our squad for £3million? At the end of the day, we are short at the back, Skrtel apparently has a cracked jaw, Agger is out for 3 weeks with a back injury and Carra has 12 stitches in his head. If all 3 of these were definately out for the Stoke game then everyone would be ripping the fuck into Rafa for not having another centre back. Now he is trying to sign someone as cover and 4th choice you are still on his back. Some of you really need to wake up and realise we havent got the cash to sign Silva or Villa, we cant afford it. And at the moment, a 4th centre back is a necessity. I agree with we should go for Sol Campbell on a free but this guy is still 4 years younger, and for all we know, could prove to be good value for money. Got good reputation as a hard hitting centre back who is good in the air. Get behind him, Rafa and the whole team. Get Those Yank Twats Out too the useless c**ts

liverpool fan: skrtel isnt gonna be out for 4 weeks u muppit. it says he could play against stoke. its only a cracked cheek bone not exactly a cruciate ligament injury is it. and also carragher played all of tottenham game and they would have brought him off if he had been injured much. carragher and skrtel only needed a few stitches. plus they r the 2 hardest men on the team and it wil take more than a stitch or 2 to keep em down. i one is injured then play kelly. he really impressed me in preseason. he reminded me of agger a bit

i have lived in london for 5 years and i was watching premier league every day….even now that i m back in greece , i m watching the most important games….i m not an AEK fan (Kyrgiakos’ team), im Olympiakos…and i have to say ,even though that i don t like him cause he was always our enemy, that he is AT LEAST like skrtel…and for sure u will love the fact that he has balls….and heart…so i think that in the end u will be singing for rafa and sotis…i prefer Liverpool and i think that he is able to play in that team…u ll see..
YES YES ITS CHELSHIT - August 19th, 2009 at 5:47 am
CHELSEA’S ANTHEM
learn it repeat it.
” i am a Chelsea fan
and this is how i describe my club ,as best as i can.
Last year was a specl treat ,
even after so many coach transfers we still lost it.
after murinho we thought scholari was right,
but the whole world saw how he screwed us tight.
And now comes Acelloti,
very much ready to spoil the party.
our tactical game plan is done by an owl,
drogba barks at the referee when Ballack does the foul.
COLE will pass to malouda ,
And malouda to miachel Eissen ,
eissen losses the ball, and we lose the game.
meanwhile frank takes a shot, and terry gets hit,
he sits down and cries just like a shit.
and then we have Anelka doesn’t knows which ball to use,
the one on the ground
or the one on his head ,big round and huge.
this is us ,this is the way we play ,
but the shocking thing is that ,we are still happy and gay”
so read this 3 times before u comment on liverpool.

Towards the end of last season, and maybe i,m wrong here, but i seemed to notice a slight dip in form in carra as regards pace, which is understandable. Also a little hesitancy in decision making, also noticed in this pre season and aSll to obvious when he made the decision to go for the same ball as scary at the weekend which he had no right to do scary had it boxed off ending up with both injured thankfully not to serious, but could have been a lot worse. Now don,t get me wrong here, but every dog has it,s day and i think carra may just be cming to the end of the line. We all know that he is going to end up in the sami role as back up striker and were all looking towards agger and scary as our main two. As for this greek bloke i don,t know much about him but a man of vast exprrience at 30 and for only 3 mil sounds like pretty good business to me. Also if all reports are true, him and scary at center backs are going to be pretty ferocious opponents for any forwards to come up against. I,m not saying retire carra at this moment in time.but we have to look at the bigger picture which i,m sure rafa is doing and only trying to do the best with the funds he has.YNWA.

This deal is Done.
Sotiris Kyrgiakos is now a liverpool player as announced on his website.
I wish him the best of luck and that these Yankee F**ks leave before they do too much damage to his once great club.
I dont understand how we can have so little funds…
We spent about 20 million this summer. (10 for Johnson, 4 for Aquilani, 1 for Mavinga and 3 for Kyrgiakos.)
We sold Alonso for an undisclosed amount probably in a similar agreement to the Aquilani deal where we only pay a certain amount over time… lets assume 5 million. We also sold Arbeloa for about 3.5 million and Leto for 3 million with Anderson, Hobbs and Hammil leaving for about 1 million for both.
All up this is about 13+ million.
20 – 13 = 7 million gross spending without transfer funds from Gillete and HIcks.
Also i thought Spurs still owed us money for selling Keane back to them
It just doesnt add up
stavros - August 19th, 2009 at 8:27 am
don’t be hurry to judge him so early. i am from cyprus and i watch a lot of greek superleague. this guy is tall and strong and don’t forget that he played for rangers and a german team( i think eindrahct).
and also don’t forget that he was in the greek team that won the euro 2004!!!!
Kida - August 19th, 2009 at 8:39 am
I agree with Robbie ^^^…. Just because he flopped at rangers, doesnt mean he’ll flop with us. I dont see a single Liverpool fan complaining about Abert Riera, and look at the crap season he had with Manchester City not long before he joined us??
Some people crack me up… just dont have a clue what there talking about.

bobbyb – August 19th, 2009 at 7:29 am ….. Yes, i have notice the samething myself ….. Carra’ has always been one of my favourite players and in many ways he, more that Stevie G has been Mr Liverpool for me, always giving his all …. But all things comes to a end and i believe that carra has one, maybe two season at most in him. ……. I shouted hard of us to keep Agger, as i believe that Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel are our future CB team. ….. I fell next season we will see less and less of Carra/Skrtel and Carra’/Agger and more and more of the Skrtel/Agger partnership
Donavan Ried - August 19th, 2009 at 12:38 pm
Donavan Ried – August 19th, 2009 at 10:10 am …. “why we must sign him???buy vidic ,rafa for 3m and i 100% sure we will get him!!” …… LMAO that was so, so funny …… Is if you can get mummy to help you with another one …. and who said kids and computers don’t go well together …..

you will see than he is 100 times better than agger and skrtel..he is a solid CB..do not forget that he is the player who stopped Henry when he was at his best shape(panathinaikos – arsenal 1-0)..you will be delighted with this signing and with only 3 M it’s like you win the lottery..
chris - August 19th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
