It looks like Ayala and Carragher may well be the centre back pairing for the Stoke game!
Liverpool have been left sweating on the fitness of Martin Skrtel as they face up to a fresh injury crisis.
The centre half is rated as only 50-50 to face Stoke tomorrow night, after ‘cracking’ his jaw in a collision with team-mate Jamie Carragher during the defeat at Tottenham on Sunday.
Carragher is now the only fit senior centre half at the club, with Daniel Agger also sidelined for at least another two weeks with a back problem, and manager Rafa Benitez admitted he must wait as long as possible to give Skrtel a chance.
Benitez has been desperately searching for a replacement centre half to ease his crisis, but has been frustrated by a lack of cash which has seen him reduced to trying to bring in loan signings.
He has enquired about bring in Real Madrid’s Argentina defender Ezquiel Garay on loan, but that can’t happen until later in the week, and Benitez could be forced to play 18 year old Danny Ayala tomorrow night. (Daily Mirror)
Things are getting pretty hectic at the moment in the defensive department and one can only hope we manage to get through these niggling injury problems. Would be great if we could get a good player like Garay on loan, which given the fact we have sold them Alonso and Arbeloa would be the least they could do for us!
