Liverpool are lining up a £15 million bid for West Ham and England centre back Matthew Upson.
The 30-year-old was expected to be the subject of a £12 million bid from Aston Villa, but now it appears the Anfield club are keen to add the services of Upson.
Liverpool have been linked with several central defenders during the last fortnight, including Ryan Shawcross of Stoke City, but reports suggest their attentions have turned to the former Arsenal defender.
The Reds defensive plight was hit even harder today, with news that Daniel Agger will be out of action for around six weeks. Sotirios Kyrgiakos has been brought in from AEK Athens for £2 million, but few see the Greek defender as a regular starter in Merseyside.
The key stumbling block over a possible Upson move is the financial situation at Liverpool, with the clubs bankers attempting to tighten the purse strings. Benitez has been frustrated in this department of late, to the point where rumours spread that he had left his position earlier in the week. (Give Me Football)
Really not sure where this rumour came from, but may I suggest ‘thin air’?
We don’t have the cash but add to that, we just signed the Greek International who’s name I can never get right and also consider that Daniel Ayala looks pretty competent into the mix and this Matthew Upson thing seems pretty much a complete nonsensical bit of tittle tattle.
Good player though….
