This doesn’t make much sense!
Chelsea are aiming to spring a major surprise before the transfer window closes – with sources in Spain claiming Sergio Aguero is on his way to Stamford Bridge in a £42million deal.
Although the brilliant 21-yearold Argentinian played and scored against Panathinaikos in Atletico Madrid’s Champions League qualifying win last week, Chelsea haven’t been deterred in their chase for the South American youngster.
Carlo Ancelotti insists there will be no more signings this summer, yet People Sport understands Chelsea are still actively looking at targets – and Aguero remains top of their wish-list.
New boss Ancelotti views Aguero as the marquee player who can win Chelsea the title. Aguero has been tempted by a move to the Premier League but feels a loyalty to his Spanish club.
Atletico officials know, however, that they can’t keep hold of him indefinitely – and they are tempted by the Chelsea cash. (The People)
Now this simply does not make sense! Given that Sergio Aguero is now ineligible for Champions League so surely far less likely to be the subject of such a large bid. In many ways the Argentine’s value should be slashed and if Atletico Madrid think that any side will fork out such a large fee for their 21 year old striker then they are deluded.
Ancelotti is keen to inject some more youthful talent into his slightly creaky squad, hence the addition of the likes of Ross Turnbull and Daniel Sturridge. It seems more likely the Chelsea boss will wait until next summer before considering another move for Aguero, unless of course the La Liga side greatly cuts its asking price.
