Liverpool Vs Aston Villa Team News and Prediction Thread
by YNWA on August 24th, 2009 33 commentsMore of the same please Rafa!
Liverpool have an injury crisis in central defence and hope to complete the signing of Greece international Sotirios Kyrgiakos before Monday.
If not, Daniel Ayala could continue at centre-half, as Daniel Agger faces six weeks out with a back injury.
Aston Villa are monitoring the fitness of Curtis Davies, who injured his shoulder in the defeat by Rapid Vienna.
Defender Luke Young has been given compassionate leave after the death of his half-brother.
Liverpool
Suspended: None
Doubtful: Skrtel (head) Injured: Agger (back), Aquilani (ankle), El Zhar & Aurelio (both knee)Aston Villa
Suspended: None
Doubtful: Davies (shoulder), Carew (virus) Injured: Downing (foot), Bouma (ankle), L Young (compassionate leave) (BBC Sport)
Martin O’Neill’s side have not started the season too well and the Villa fans that I call friends are a little apprehensive about what this year will bring and I can only hope that Rafa will inspire the side to pick up from where they left off and that we can recreate the Stoke City performance.
We have a few people in the physio’s room but I was impressed with the midweek performance of Daniel Ayala and I can see great potential there. I think Yossi’s displays both at the tail end of the White Hart Lane debacle and against the Potters, were fantastic and he really deserves a good run in the side.
My Prediction: 2-0 to Liverpool

This team should do the job. If it can’t then I’m afraid we are scewed as this is our best team at the moment.

If Liverpool pass well, keep the ball, make chances and play as they did during the business end of last season, they should win 3-4 nil, if not, they will draw or perhaps get away with a scrappy win. God (i.e. Gerrard) should score.
saif - August 24th, 2009 at 11:40 am
liverpool to play well and the score will be 5 / 6 – 0
footybanter.co.uk - August 24th, 2009 at 11:45 am
As a Villa fan I can’t see this going any other way that Liverpool (2-0 my pred too). If Davies is injured, we’re pretty much knackered considering we only have 2 first team centre-backs in the squad thanks to the sale of Zat Knight and the retirement of Martin Lausen. We’ll have to use the kids – none of which I’ve seen in action, so I can’t really comment.
But it doesn’t look good for Villa at the moment, especially away at Anfield.

It’s annoying people are writing off O’Neill just because of 2 defeats this season. (Although the performances were dire.) The people booing and calling for “O’Neill out!” are probably the same ‘fans’ who praised his appointment & praised him the whole of last year (year, not season.) Probably the same ‘fans’ who booed off our own Gabby Agbonlahor. Keep The Faith.
The only gripe I have with O’Neill is his ‘Heskey Tinted Glasses.’ The player is garbage. Same with Beye. 2 poor signings. If they play we will lose. If they don’t, VILLA WILL WIN 2-1.
isaac hunt - August 24th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
early goal will see us win by 3 or 4 goals. villa will sit back and counter attack us with the speed of agbonlahor and young. even if it is a tight game i would fancy us to sneak it.
prediction: liverpool 4-0 aston villa
torres 12′
benayoun 36′
gerrard (pen) 67′
babel 88′

i expect a good win 4 the pool. with gerrard, torres, lucas, and johnson all performing well. johnson may get caught defencivly against ashley young but if the new greeke plays then no goals concided if ayala then we may concide as ayala against carew or heskey doesn’t sound good.

Liverpool 3 Aston Villa 1. Yossi/Stevie G/ Kuyt to score. Lucas to be yellow carded. Corners Liverpool 6 A Villa 2.
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
MON to start crying in second half when sixth goal goes in. He will then strip and run round the pitch screaming “gareth how could you do this too me” before he runs up to the away fans and collpases in a ball rocking backwards and forwards…..
lfc YNWA - August 24th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Liverpool to win I think the score will be 2-1 with agbonlahor scoring for villa, kuyt and gerrard to score for Liverpool

any other predictions
Donavan Ried - August 24th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Where to start ……… 1-3 loss to Villa is never easy to take and this game started so brightly for us we could and maybe should have been 2 goals up in the first 12 minutes …….
Torres was on the end of a few bumps, and shouuld have been give a few freekicks, though the lack of protection from the ref was no excuse for Torres’s antics and constant arguing with the official…….
The free kick that lead to the first goal was soft, (and not being the biggest fan of Lucas), i refuse to blame him for it. ….. I also refuse to blame him for the attempted headed clearrance that found the back of the net either …. It happens.Ask Gerrard,Carra’ Agger, and Riise ……..
I Felt for Lucas …… You could see he was gutted …… But i was impressed with his response, almost getting on the end of a cross to level things up in the very next attack…..
In the meantime we did look a threat going forward, but was quite often let down by the the final pass,(Benayoun the biggest offender) ……
The second goal has to rest with Torres ….. I am not a fan of zonal marking, but Torres should be use to this, and failed to react when Davies stepped in front of him ……
Torres became more and more frustrated as the game when on …..and a late goal did little to ease that frustration ….
Gerrards simple mistime the tackle ….. There are thing that i question …..
(1) WHY DOES RAFA WAIT UNTIL AFTER THE 62MINUTE BEFORE HE MAKES A CHANGE? ……
(2) WHY WAS RIERA NOT IN THE STARTING LINE UP? ……
(3) WHY WAS RIERA NOT BROUGHT ON?…….
(4) WE ARE CHASING THE GAME SO WHY NOT TAKE OFF MASCH’ INSTEAD OF LUCAS?…….
(5) WHY NOT BRING ON BABEL TO PLAY UP FRONT WITH TORRES INSTEAD OF VORONIN?…..
If anything, this game, just like the Tottenham game proves that we need another quality striker, and that Rafa just doesn’t know what to do to change a game that is going against him ….
I am refusing to answer any post aimed at my comments unless you log in and add your name to the comment ….. thank you

Sorry I got the score wrong. IT WAS 3-1. Ha ha ha. Keep The Faith. Even though I’m a Villa fan, I hope Liverpool bounce back.
