Hughes to spend nothing on a player, now that’s a novelty!
Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has made his most surprising move of the summer – to try and snap up Brazilian left back Sylvinho on a free transfer.
Big-spending Hughes, set to complete a £22m deal for Everton’s Joleon Lescott this week, met with former Arsenal full-back Sylvinho when City played their prestigious friendly at Barcelona‘s Nou Camp last week.
Hughes wants the 35-year-old veteran as cover and to put pressure on England left-back Wayne Bridge and he can also operate as a wing back and in left midfield.
Sylvinho is a free agent after his contract with Barcelona expired but the Spanish giants had an option to renew the deal until August 20. (Daily Mirror)
This could be a very intelligent signing by Mark Hughes and clearly one that won’t cost the earth. The Veteran Barcelona man still has a season or two in him, as illustrated in his good performance at the Champions League final.
The former Arsenal man has bags of experience and could offer a very real threat to Wayne Bridge on the left and can also play further up the park as a winger or wing back. He would also be a free purchase and after all the millions Mark Hughes has spent that will come as some relief for the mega rich clubs coffers.
