A player too good to ignore?
Three games in and three wins collected, what a turnaround. From having their worst start to a league campaign in nearly a century last term to this year and the best season opening since the double winning year, Harry is working his magic, but if he could add one more player to his impressive squad who could really make a difference then I think this is the guy he should pursue most vehemently.
Joe Cole is at risk of becoming the forgotten man at Stamford Bridge and he may feel that his place in Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad could be compromised by remaining a Chelsea man. Currently sidelined the former West Ham man may find it very hard to get himself back into the first team and even though Carlo Ancelotti has claimed that the 27 year old has a part to play at the west London club it will be hard for the Italian to re-shuffle his pack if they are continuing to display title chasing displays.
Currently Luka Modric plays out wide left, a role that he has ably produced some fantastic displays but the addition of a player like Cole, who is adaptable and can play well in many areas across the midfield as well as in the hole behind the striker, would only serve to further improve the options available to Harry Redknapp.
Clearly Cole and the Tottenham boss go well back and have a great admiration for each other and that could well aid any bid for the England international. Some sources suggest that a fee of as little as £10m could land the nippy attacker and that would be a bargain in my view.
Obviously given that he has played at two clubs that aren’t exactly top of Tottenham fans Christmas card lists is a stumbling block but I am sure the fans of the north London side would welcome Joe Cole with open arms and in many ways it would be the kind of signing that would display real intent and give the side an extra dimension should Redknapp seek to mix things up across the middle and perhaps bring Modric in from the flank.
Whichever way you look at it, such a signing would prove a great footballing decision and Harry has reportedly considered such a move and now may be the best time to put in a bid.
