Tottenham Offered £10m Plus Man United Star for Luka Modric: Bad Deal for Harry
by Mr Neutral on August 24th, 2009 279 words | 51 commentsNot a deal that Redknapp is going to think too long and hard about!
There appears to be growing speculation that Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is about to make Harry Redknapp an offer for Tottenham star Luka Modric, but it’s not a deal that the north London club is going to consider for one second.
The Metro claims that Ferguson will offer former Spurs man Michael Carrick and £10m to entice the Croatian international to Old Trafford, but if that is the deal on the table then the White Hart Lane boss wouldn’t consider it for even a split second.
Modric is a class act, and one that Tottenham battled long and hard to snap up so they are unlikely to sell the talented 23 year old to the Premier League title holders. The former Dynamo Zagreb man has been fantastic since signing he joined and has been simply breathtaking when playing out wide left for Redknapp.
Clearly Sir Alex is a fan and would like to add a tad more creativity to his midfield after seeing the club begin the season in a stuttering fashion. Everyone knows that Redknapp likes to chop and change his side and it seemed that the Spurs boss was looking to continue his shake up of the club and could well still dabble in the transfer market before the transfer window slams shut, but if there is one player who is untouchable then it is the Croatian international.
You can’t blame the United boss for trying but if the speculation is true and he really has put in such a bid then it really is doomed to fail.

Spot on. Modric is far too valuable to consider selling for one second.
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Carrick is not the player he was two seasons ago and I think Ferguson knows that all too well!
Bruce - August 24th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Pretty cheeky of Fergie, Redknapp won’t even consider it, surely?
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 11:22 am
really?
more like media spin from some gooner editor
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 11:23 am
You’re right, you can’t blame Sir Alex for trying. He does like raiding Tottenham doesn’t he, especially at the last minute. Well he got Berbatov, but he ain’t getting Modders!
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 11:23 am
The last time one of these was going on, it was Carrick saying that Berbatov should go to Man Untied …….. Obviously young Michael got TOLD by red-nose to do the tapping so that the devious Scotch cheater couldn’t be accused of the deed. Carrick ought to recognise the way it works at Untied – one minute you do the boss favours, the next he offers to ditch you for flavour of the month. Watch out Sulkmeister Berbie – you’re NEXT!!!
Reds Lewis - August 24th, 2009 at 11:26 am
lol, Totenham wont sell modric
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 11:29 am
don’t worry spurs fans, this is totally untrue. COYS!
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 11:29 am
Fergie is a selfish P***k
footybanter.co.uk - August 24th, 2009 at 11:29 am
It could’ve been worse, Ferguson could’ve offered to swop Owen Hargreaves and £10m
Seriously though, Modric is really starting to come into his own after a trouble few seasons. I think he’s about ready to explode onto the scene and I think Ferguson see’s that too.
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 11:32 am
If its true, Then its typical of fergusons dirty tricks. As soon as a team starts to threaten manure, he seeks to weaken them by stealing their best players. I hope the Spurs board & Harry have the balls to tell him to go f…k himself.
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Not for all the scotchold whisky nose has had in his lifetime
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 11:37 am
complete crap as joe cole is available for much less as he only has only has one year on his contract so unless harry has lined up cole as a replacement its a no brainer
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 11:39 am
Three things I wish for.
1. Spurs tell old red nose to go and play with himself.
2, Spurs beat them.
3. Luka scores the winning goal, ( Just to stuff it down fergusons throat).

This look little desperate from Manchester united we don’t need the money and what more interesting is that if players start to play-up, because he wants a move, we have enough cover in the midfield so we stick him in reserve if going to sell it wouldl be Spain or Italy– great season for me would be spurs top , Manchester city 2nd – Everton 3rd and burley 4th that would fix so called big four once all for all
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 11:48 am
not even worh leaving a comment on what is obviously THE stupidest story ever……but I will leave just one comment…..HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 11:50 am
Do you lot really believe this cr*p?
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 11:56 am
Media fun and games.
I’m sure it’s a deal Fergie would go for but from a Spurs perspective, Huddlestone already does what Carrick can do and Modric cannot be replaced so even Carrick plus £20 million would still be a no-go.
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 11:57 am
“United to offer Spurs Carrick and cash for Modric?” love the question mark, they are the fucking newspaper, aren’t they supposed to tell us, not ask us.
Someone somewhere is stirring it, clubs outside the “big four” aren’t supposed to have classy players like Modric, maybe this is an attempt to unsettle him.
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
I dont think he is worth £10 million plus carrick. Carricks passing is brilliant. He just needs more confidence and more consistency
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
fergie is scared that spurs r getting better than utd and redknapp knows this thats y he wont sell to man u
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
modric could be even better when playing in his proper position he’s not even a winger
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
lol fergie will not give carrick or buy modric it is impossiible. i will tell u why.
modric is best suited 2 a 4-3-3 as an attacking midfielder but as ronaldo has gone we know longer have the players to play such a formation hence the switch to valencia n nani. (4-4-2)
furthermore fergie doesnt accept that he has made a mistake so expect to see carrick, anderson berbatov for seasons to come???
just pure speculation
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 1:02 pm
Tell the manc gits to shove it, we cannot keep selling our best players to them and hope to finish above them.
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
There is no truth in the story but all you spurs fans know we could have modric if we wanted him.
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
It’s a total fabrication, as usual, from The Metro.
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
Modric to Man Utd; Carrick + 10M to Tottenham!!! Why 10M? Because: Portsmouth is ready to sell Niko Kranjcar for about 8M pounds and this is great job for Harry! Kranjcar, Carrick, Palacios, Lennon in the middle with Bentley, O’Hara and Jenas at the bench! Title charge is open
Modric vs Carrick+Kranjcar!! think again
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
Modric is a football genius………hope he stays in spurs
Ash T - August 24th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
modric isnt realy that good, yes he open up play, but he can not score how many chances as he had to score and he just misses.
benayoun is better, atleast he can score.
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
hahaha this is jus plain stupid.
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
modric is true class..i would be happy if he goes to man utd, because they are the best and most famous club in england
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
This is nonsense. Why swap Carrick for an inferior player? After all, Carrick has won more in 3 seasons than Spurs have in their history.
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Modric is overated. Please keep him at Spurs. United dont need more benchwarmers
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
This is by far the best transfer market effort of United..Fergie knows there is something missing in the midfield..Damn,Modric has as much football intelligence as Carrick,Fletcher and Anderson together…If a player like him is not purchased and Rooney is forced to pull back 40 yards all the season to organise play, the team will blow engines before even Owen gets injured again… :p :p
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
Well done fergie, modrich is good player but remember subtitute is a team. Live carrick and add modrich. our team can be more strong than to live carrick to be back his former club. Once again carrick is a good player he can pass at any situation he found himself. Once again subtitute is team…
neverenough - August 24th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
im a liverpool fan and i would love to see modric come to liverpool(never gna happen) and not many people can say they wouldnt want him, hes class
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 3:53 pm
carrick is better than modric
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
I cant believe that some morons really think that Carrick is better than Modric
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
dont fucking say that carrick is overated
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 5:14 pm
modric is worldclass, but i think he need´s time … it´s better to stay at tottenham, cause they´re coming this season!
but next season tottenham has no chance to keep luka, cause he will explode this season and i don´t think that only manu is waiting for him! –>
next year: 35-40 mil for modric …
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
this would be a brilliant signing & would mean spurs dont have ato sign anybody to replace him but have £10m to strengthen. we would reduce our age in mf & also have a real class act! i think he could be the iniesta of our mf & would be a perfect playmaker. if we did this & got robben for about £20m & sold park we would be much better equipped to take on the barcas & madrid in the cl. also modric & berba would be awesome together & would give us the quality to keep the ball which we couldnt do in the cl
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
Haha, yeah i bet he would like Modric. It’s never gonna happen and just shows how ‘happy’ Fergie is with his average looking side, as a Liverpool fan i wouldn’t take Carrick on a free and Spurs are looking great this year so why would they want to shake things up. I hope Harry tells Fergie F off!
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
I think that Modric will stay with Spurs, he likes that club and his best friend Corluka “Charlie” plays there…he is world class player and value 10 mil + Carrick is funny…Carrick is average player and he cant replace Luka Modric…Fergie try with 30 mil. + Anderson, Carrick, Nani… hahah… LUKA MODRIC =WORLDWiDE
anonymous - August 24th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
To imagine that some morons on this site actually rate Modric and Carrick equally is mind blowing. Modric is one of the worlds most unique midfielders with his reading of the game, movement of and on the ball and his vision. Tottenham won’t sell unless it is a ludicrous price and a swap. However, hopefully the next few seasons, Tottenham actually attempt to build and hold together a dynasty and not just make a profit on their books.
anonymous - August 25th, 2009 at 12:13 am
they are different types of players modric more deco mould of attacking mid and carrick more pirlo type of cm that plays deep and spreads.
but i think if u can play the 2 2gether that would be great
anonymous - August 25th, 2009 at 4:37 am
Luka Modric is best what Spurs have but Niko Kranjcar is best what Pompey has. I don’t know, I feel like a kid in a candystore trying to pick a lolipop.

Carrick is not the player he was two seasons ago and I think Ferguson knows that all too well!
Youre right, in the last two years Carrick has won 2 Premierships, a Champions League and a runners up medal, League Cup and numerous England caps. He’s a far better player now than 2 years ago!

From today croatian newspapers : He said something like: I read about ManU intrested in me , but I lovi it here in Tottenham. I don’t think to live ever.
super-spur - August 25th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
absoloutely no bloody way. he’s one of the midfiuelders in the league and 10m is not enough and carrick isn’t as good as he was 2 yrs ago. Never would redknapp allow this

anonymous is a big idiot fergusit is a better manager than harry way
anonymous - August 25th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
fergie was very disapointed with his midfield against barca……carrick in particular was singled out…….modders is more mobile and is makes intelligent paces…..and uniteds midfield is very old for the premiership……couple this with the factharry always has his hand in the till.(thats why he doesnt last at any club…..its not his ability)……this deal could happen
