A financially viable option.
Rafa Benitez is looking into the possibility of bringing Julio Baptista to cash strapped Liverpool. The Brazilian international is interested in a season long loan deal in this World Cup year, which would be ideal for the under fire Spaniard.
The Roma player has struggled to find form in Italy and the Serie A club would be pleased to get him off their wage bill.
That would certainly appeal to penniless Liverpool who have had a dreadful start to the season. With no money to spend Benitez is struggling to get any players in before Tuesdays deadline. Benitez sees the Brazilian who is eager to impress international manager Dunga, as a realistic possibility. He believes the Roma midfielder has the crudentials to fit right into Liverpool’s style of play. The powerful midfielder has an eye for goal who can play behind the striker or in a deeper more central role. (Give Me Football)
We Liverpool fans are obviously all too aware of the impact Julio ‘The Beast’ Baptista can have, with the Brazilian scoring four past us, albeit in a Carling Cup encounter when he was at Arsenal. The Brazilian is an effective, if not subtle, weapon. A player who is able to produce good performances in a number of roles.
The former Real Madrid man can be played as an advanced midfielder or as part of a striker pairing and his brute force and determination he could work well alongside the more measured and stylish Fernando Torres.
Obviously loan deals are right up our alley given that we have little or no money in the transfer kitty and Baptista has a wealth of experience and with a World Cup on the horizon the international regular will want to be getting a regular run out and attracting attention and there is no reason to suggest he couldn’t do so at Anfield. Inter Milan were said to be interested in signing the 27 year old but they appear to have landed Wesley Sneijder instead.
