An idea that may not be as crazy as it first sounds.

World Series of Fooball - Los Angeles Galaxy v Chelsea FC

Let me make this clear from the outset this suggestion is borne totally out of my mind and not the creation of some mad scientist. First read the latest twist in the “Shevchenko has no Chelsea future” saga.

Andriy Schevchenko’s Chelsea career seems finally over – after the Ukrainian was told he will be dumped from the Blues’ Champions League squad.

New Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti appeared to give the £30million flop a chance of redemption on Friday when he declared the Ukrainian still had a “future“ at Stamford Bridge.

But Shevchenko blew his top when Ancelotti – with whom he fell out during his nightmare loan return to Ac Milan last term – told him he was considered as the fourth choice striker behind Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou.

Ancelotti explained to Shevchenko that he would get his chance in January, when Drogba and Kalou, along with Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel, will be on African Nations’ Cup duty. (Daily Mirror)

Now clearly this is a snub and a half, I remember the same thing happened with Sami Hyppia last season and he was pretty annoyed by it also. Now it’s clear the Ukrainian is not half the striker he was in his AC Milan pomp, but he still has something to offer much like Michael Owen has become a short term back up solution for Man United surely Shevchenko could do likewise.

The usual argument that states that big teams do not offload their players to other big team may not be relevant in this case as Carlo Ancelotti clearly doesn’t value the 32 year old in the slightest. This is also the players last season so any fee would minimal and we could do with an experienced striker in our squad to act as a stop gap in case El Nino gets injured.

It’s not the world’s craziest idea if you ask me and in many ways it’s the kind of move that could well help us this season. Man United have made similar signings in the past, remember they took a risk on the much older Henrik Larsson and he walked away with a Premier League title. We don’t have much cash to invest and therefore this again is another reason to consider such a move, hell we could even offer him a place in our Champions League squad.
