Tottenham Ready to Call It Quits on £6m Giovani as Besiktas Enter Race

Reports in Greece, claim website IMScouting.com, suggest Olympiakos plan to offer Tottenham’s Giovani Dos Santos an escape route on loan – but they face competition from Turkish rivals Besiktas who are keen on the Mexican misfit. (Daily Mail)
It appears that the Greek side Olympiakos are only interested in a loan deal for the young Mexican but the Turkish outfit Besiktas would be interested in signing the £6m attacker on a permanent deal, perhaps Harry Redknapp is better off opting to send the former Barcelona man out on loan because the 20 year old has undoubted potential but could well suffer the fate of a good many Tottenham players who were at the club prior to the former Pompey manager’s arrival.
The Turkish champions have had an average start to their season and have the Champions League to look forward to and appear to have some cash to splash having already snapped up the excellent Nihat from Villarreal.
Giovani had a stunningly successful impact when playing for his national side at the Gold Cup he was voted the player of the tournament but he still seems some way off adding to his two Premier League starts.
In many ways Spurs could benefit more from the talented youngster going out on loan to another English club so he can better get used to his surroundings, his spell at Ipswich Town was a success and if Harry can find a home for him at a lower level Premier League club then it may suit the club more. However if Besiktas put in a decent offer Redknapp may feel the time is right to cut his losses.

I was hugely excited when we first signed Giovani but he just hasn’t had much of a chance to prove himself under Harry. His physical stature doesn’t really suit the English game and I wouldn’t be surprised if Redknapp offloaded him.

he was amazing at barca but just went slowly down hill hope he can go back to the spanish league and proveis worth again

Not much chance to prove himself, but useful squad player if Harry can keep him interested.

He’s good, without a doubt but doesn’t turn up for practice on time and apparently doesn’t like to be told… Harry therefore leaves him out. He needs to grow up …

What are you guys honestly talking about. First of all he is only 20, second of all he is one of the most skill full players in England. He is amazing with a ball and has the skill to beat many players (we hardly see this in England). Yes he needs to mature a lot on the field, he needs to know when to offload the ball and when to run it. We should definitely keep him, he has great potential. He is also a lefty and other than Bale, Assou-Ekotto & Modric we have no other lefties.
You just cant expect a 19 year old to move from Mexico to Barca and perform amazing and then move to England and be the man. He needs time to develop and mature. I think hes going to be an amazing player in the future whether he plays for us or another club, I just hope Spurs has the sense to keep him. I say the same with Adel Tarabat. Early this year, Roy Keane even had praises for Gio and he’s not too famous for compliments.

Did anyone see this man against Doncaster? Hardly the toughest opposition, but it had George Best written all over it! I’m not sure how he fits into the first team but selling him would be a CRIME against the tradition of the Tottenham style, this is our next Gazza/Ginola, it’s terrible to see him wasted.

After last nights showing at doncaster he will be on them bench and could come on to win it for spurs he looked oustanding .This kid had a bad ankle when we bought him and hurt it while at spirs this set him back but is spell at ipswitch and his mexico games have brought him upto scratch and we will see the best of him.

played well against doncaster – we should give him a half against brum, to see how he shapes up against premiership opposition.

it is crazy that harry want to get rid of any player that that is creative and fun to watch. Get rid of Jenas, Bentley, and King (which I might be vilafied for saying) and keep Giovonni. I am an american wanting to keep a mexican on a team I love, he must be good.

I went to the Doncaster game and I thought when we were on the back front hium and Bentley weren’t worthy of a place on the pitch but as soon as we got a few goals in fromt and comfortable and it opened up they both improved immensely. If they could both learn when to offload the ball and be harder working team players they’d both do well.

Add my name to those hoping to see Gio stay. You’ll have noticed that the player rating sites after the Doncaster game mostly put him at the top of the Spurs list. He’s young and very talented, he was injured for much of last year. It’s a shame that he’s another along with Modric, Defoe, Keane and Lennon who are not as big as we would like, but he’s too good to let go if he wants to stay.

It’s kind of hard to prove yourself when the manager will not play you. Seems pretty obvious that Redknapp does not care for Gio.

I’m Mexican-American but root for Mexico all the way. I’ve watched Gio play and he has great pace and knows how to protect the ball. He has gr8t vision and makes outstanding runs. for being only 20 and being in the situation he was in last campaign….he is doing gr8t. This guy has a lot to offer and should be given a chance to adjust to the english game. His is not big by any means….but he has amzing talent. There are a lot small statured players in the Premier so I don’t think that should be a big con. He is naturally a RW so size is not so important. Give him a solid chance or let him go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Viva Gio
