Good times at White Hart Lane
A friend posed an interesting question to me recently, the question was posed in a north London pub late last night, and it was addressed in all sincerity and it was spoken as a lifelong Spurs fan. The question, or more accurately the observation was, “I am a Spurs fan with nothing to Moan about, what do I do?”. I was as stumped as he.
He had come across this fantastic sketch from Studs Up (CLICK HERE to see the comic in question) and he had found it all to true.
I found that he made a good point. Harry Redknapp steered the club from a very real threat of relegation last term to bring them to the brink of an incredible Europa League qualification spot and this term has exceeded expectations thus far. Three wins from three games, and those three games were by no means gimmes they included a home game against last seasons runners up and two tricky away games. Oh and they also found time to thrash Doncaster in the Carling Cup.
So what next? Obviously the club will lose a game sooner or later and they will almost certainly not win the Premier League but there is a real feeling of optimism about the club and it’s fans. This is not the same false media driven optimism that followed back to back fifth placed finishes when only a dodgy meal kept the side out of the Champions League party, this is a club on the up and up and that is what I found myself explaining to my friend who seemed at a loss as to how to take the recent chain of events.
He could of course get carried away with the whole thing and start spouting on and on about just how great things are and that they are finally going to hit the big time and spoil the top four party but he chooses, possibly wisely to err on the side of caution whilst remaining upbeat and pleased with the current crop of players and the confidence that seems to flow through their bodies.
He is a season ticket holder and a fan of the club ever since I can remember and I do not begrudge him his happiness so when he asks me what he should do now that he has nothing to Moan about, and believe me he is a champions moaner at times, and I simply tell him. Enjoy every minute or it.
