Does Hull Boss Brown Really Think Liverpool Will Make £12m Turner Bid?!
by YNWA on August 30th, 2009 335 words | 36 commentsIs it me or is Phil Brown trying to generate interest in his own player?

Hull City boss Phil Brown admits the club may have to listen to any ’silly bids’ for Michael Turner before the close of the transfer window.
Turner has been strongly linked with a move away from the KC Stadium throughout the summer, with Liverpool reportedly offering £6million for the centre-half.
The Tigers are understood to value Turner at double that amount, with Sunderland the latest club to have an expressed an interest.
“Everyone seems to be wanting to talk about Michael Turner,” said Brown. “Let’s talk about him. He had an outstanding game. He has been tested by the two boys up front (Kevin Doyle and Andy Keogh) and stood up to the test.
“Is that his last game? I don’t know. It might be. It might not be. When people start talking silly money, sometimes you have to listen.
“We are in the year of the silly money, the silly bids. The world has gone crazy, paying £25million for centre-halves, so maybe you have to listen. (Sky Sports)
Phil Brown appears to be doing his best to drum up interest in Michael Turner, but why? Clearly his ability to bring up the subject of his centre back’s future at any given opportunity smacks of some sort of desire to cash in on the 25 year old, otherwise why keep talking about it? If he has no interest in selling then he should just make that clear and move on.
Yes, the former Charlton and Brentford man had a good season last term but he is not worth all the attention he is getting and if the Tigers boss thinks we are the most likely to stump up ’silly money’ then he is mistaken.
Having just purchased Kyrgiakos and with Ayala coming along nicely a move for the Londoner would be a foolish one and one we luckily could not afford. Sorry Phil, however hard you try, he’s not going anywhere!

Anyone who thinks Turner is worth even 10m must be high! He is a very average no nonsense defender. If he is so good then someone in the top six will try to buy him but I bet anyone here that no one will pay even half of the 12m Hull say he is worth. It’s so obvious Hull are trying to cash in on him its embarrassing!
anonymous - August 30th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
yeah nah….12mil could be put toward van der vaart a player that we actually need..
kyrgiakos is only there for cover before agger and skrtel get back to full fitness.. he will be down the pecking order later in the season.. i agree with a few of the comments kelly, ayala and san jose are good up and comers who need the game time, dnt waste ur money on turner…and phil brown dnt get carried away mate
isaac hunt - August 30th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
he is not good enough to wear the red shirt. i really hate phil brown. to someone who said get shawcross it would be a good signing for around 7 million.
vince in oz - August 30th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
wats the point of making another defensvie signing, why not start blooding kelly and ayala more, we need midfielders not defenders..
ayala held his own against defoe and did well against stoke the following game…
please rafa dnt bother on eihter of them…
maybe focus on james milner, and van der vaart…
and start playing babel upfront more, thats why we signed him…him and torres upfront culd cause alot of problems for defences with their pace..

You dont think Turner is good enough but Shawcross is?? Don’t know about that one!!
anonymous - August 30th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
Could it be that Phil Brown does not want to sell Turner? That is probablz whz he has valued him at 12-14 million. That and the fact that he is indispensible to the success of the Hull defence. Personally I and many supporters would think that with the present gloated price of central defenders even 12-14 million is too little for our best defender.
anonymous - August 30th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
he is try to do what newcastle tryed to do with bassong put a high price on him but if liverpool want him they will get him for about 4 mil but i wouldnt say he is good yes im a newcastle fan but steven teylor is better than him any day of the week also if they want a good center back they should get in raul albot for valencia he is amazin cb and they would get a better player for less because valencia are in the crap with money the now

DM - August 30th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
raul albiol has joined real madrid. we need attackers not defenders, especially not shitty ones from hull, we are a title fighting team this season (i hope) so we need quality in midfield and attack, all we need is a striker and right winger and possibly a central midfield versatile (VDV) in my opinion we only need van der vaart, baptista, and a pacy right winger and we are sorted
anonymous - August 30th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
shawcross would be an amazing signing turners blow would knock the hull team abit and as for the money for him well who knows if dunne is linked for 6mill the turner should be less tbh and is he shit well he plays for one of the top twenty clubs in england hardly shit is he? and being linked with a club that in the top four of england thats not shit at all
anonymous - August 30th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
i agree with ya bruce there is no way is turner worth 12m he not even worth half considering he was plying his trade with brentford 2 yr ago we need a striker not an overrated CD that isnt even worth 2m let alone 12m its a laughable joke!
anonymous - August 30th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
Typical scousers; sign loads of players but still need loads of player; all the comments about Turner being no goods speaks volumes; Shawcross? not fit to lick Turners boots.
anonymous - August 30th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
There isn’t a City fan who will be happy to see Turner go, even if it is for £10-12m, that should tell you everything you need to know about how good he is. The word locally is that Sunderland have agreed £8m cash(£10m with add-ons), we don’t care if Liverpool bid or not, they don’t seem to have two shekels to run together at the moment anyway.

Hello,
All—-
Liverpool has many defenders. They only need one striker and winger.
But they must good striker and winger. Liverpool had many targets. But they cannot get because they want to pay little money. If they want to get a world class player, they should spend. Now, liverpool must buy a striker at least.
rasone - August 30th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
No major team will pay £12m for Turner he’s OK not great.

lol i love ignorant football fans who think theyre club is the best thing since sliced bread and that just because a player is from a lower team that means theyre shit.
if lescot is worth 24 million, turner the brick wall is worth 12 million at least
hes a class defeneder maybe u should actualy do your homework on the player before commenting after watching the goal highlights on motd and listening to your hero mark lawrenson slagging on hull and getting off over it.
liverpool dont even have the financial clout to match sunderland or spurs anymore, thats a fact , thats why your not going to win the tittle and why villa embarised you the other night and why you struggled past a poor bolton.
oh dear liverpool. oh dear.

Liverpool will not be signing anymore players: Benitez gave this interview after the Bolton game:
“The players showed character and it was a perfect response from the players,” Benitez told Sky Sports.
“I think we were in control, we had plenty of possession but clearly when you play with 10 players it is more difficult.
“You can say it was important – it was important to them, but still we had a lot of possession and I feel we were controlling the game.
“We needed to win, everybody was working so hard and I think we deserved to win and now they can enjoy with the national teams and we will be enjoying without too many players but with this we have three more points.”
Benitez, however, gave some bad news to Liverpool supporters hoping for some more additions before the transfer window closure, when asked he added: “No I don’t think so, I think that will be difficult.”

Turner isnt gr8 in all honesty hes shit – we need shawcross, if not Richards, if not Taylor, if not a few conference players then Turner!
isaac hunt - August 30th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
knowldgeable football fans know that turner is a good defender for teams like hull but is just not good enough for liverpool. however i think that shawcross has the potential to become the best cb in the prem in the next 5 years so i would think i am sure about that one anonymous @1:13

Honestly I cannot believe the audacity of these Hull fans coming on here and calling LFC fans ignorant, complete hypocracy.
You support Hull? Then you should know that the ONLY team that conceded more goals than Hull last season was WBA and it was a small 3 goal difference at that! The entire team couldn’t put themselves together for half of the season and Turner, whose job is to prevent goals crossing that white line between the posts, wasn’t doing his job much better than anyone around him.
Take that garbage elswhere if your team concedes 64 goals during the season and Turner is the “rock” in the back four then, sorry to tell you, he is just an average player in mediocre company. Who cares if Lescott is not worth 24 million? Did you forget who the desperate lot who actually bought him are? It wasn’t LFC, although right now a desperate lot we may be. Everyone’s price has gone up to ridiculous new heights but that doesn’t mean that every manager/club is actually stupid enough to pay that. Some of the player going for 20 million are inferior to, or will bring as much to the team as, teenagers, reserves and budget players that no one has heard of…. like Roque Santa Cruz for an example of big budget mediocrity and ridiculous hype.
He had a good season, Turner did, but a good season for a club who, with the greatest of fortune, narrowly avoided the drop and overall a club whos ambition is to do the same thing year in and year out. That doesn’t actually mean he will do well in a squad that has to compete on four fronts and actually help BEAT the upper echelon teams in the league and in Europe. It measn he is good enough to help a club achieve the bare minimum.
I have watched him play, he isn’t a bad player but never worth 12 million. To Hull he might be worth that because, again, if he is the best defender you have and does THAT much for the team then theres is no chance of Hull avoiding the drop this season if he leaves.
Warren Bloggs - August 30th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Pointless talking about possible additions if we do not even have any money to spend?! If we could somehow sign another player then for me it would have to be Van der Vaart.

NO HARM TO YOU PHIL WE ARNT GOING TO PAY 25MIIL FOR HIM
anonymous - August 30th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
Turner is better than Shawcross by a country mile.
He’d be an England regular if he was playing for a more ‘fashionable’ club.
anonymous - August 31st, 2009 at 12:36 am
To be honest Kyragiakos is a better defender expecially for £2M, Turner is a defender for the future, so I think that he is probably worth £8M but in about 3 years if he develops well then he sould be worth around £15M. I mean come on JAMIE CARRAGHER IS WORTH £8M, how can Turner cost £12M?! And don’t just say age, look at Madini, retired at 41
anonymous - August 31st, 2009 at 10:52 am
What an awful article. Phil Brown didn’t want to drum up support and interest for Turner in order to sell him, he doesnt need to. Turner is a class player and how can anyone say he isn’t worth that money when you look at what Man City paid for Lescott??
