Is Harry looking to sign another of his former players?
The Three Stages of the Transfer Window Insanity!
Telegraph Sport can reveal that Spurs are trying to sign Anton Ferdinand from Sunderland.
The 24-year-old central defender has been tracked by Spurs for some time – they attempted to sign him when he was at West Ham – but he chose to move to Sunderland for £8 million. However Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is understood to be unconvinced about Ferdinand and may be willing to do a deal having signed Michael Turner from Hull City.
Ferdinand would welcome the move – a fee is being discussed right now… (Daily Telegraph)
There are some rumours abounding that Sunderland‘s Anton Ferdinand could be on his way to Tottenham. (BBC Sport)
Could this be true? I mean it kind of makes sense from a Sunderland perspective as they have just splashed out on Michael Turner but would Harry Redknapp be wanting another centre back? Obviously there are big injury concerns over Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate as well as Michael Dawson but the club did just bring in Sebastien Bassong and what will happen when they are all fit and fighting for the same two spots in the starting eleven?
Anton Ferdinand is obviously a player Harry knows from his West Ham days but would Tottenham fans welcome the arrival of an ex Hammer? Clearly he wouldn’t be the first player to make such a move so I guess it wouldn’t be an issue.
The fee being discussed must be in the region of the money the Black Cats forked out for the former England Under 21 international last summer. That would mean it would probably take a fee in the region of £9m to sign the 24 year old.
