Liverpool Youngster Desperate for Another Chance
by YNWA on September 3rd, 2009 307 words | 16 commentsRafa should trust more to youth.
Liverpool youngster Daniel Ayala is hungry for more opportunities after a brief taste of Premier League football.
The Spanish defender played in Liverpool’s first two games of the season after Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger were struck down by injuries.
Rafa Benitez then ventured into the transfer market to sign experienced Greek international Sotiris Kyrgiakos and Ayala realises he will now have to wait for his next chance.
But he is determined to prove his worth in training and put as much pressure on the senior centre-backs as possible.
“I need to keep working hard and prove myself,” said Ayala.
“If I keep training well and playing well for the reserve team then maybe I might get another chance in the Carling Cup later this month.” (Sky Sports)
This is good to see. A talented young player who after two years progressing through the ranks at Anfield really wants to show what he can do. He put in a superb performance in his full debut at home to Stoke and that’s no easy task. The Potters are a side who always give 100% and are a very physical side and its a tough job keeping the likes of Beattie and Cresswell quiet.
Remember Ayala is still shy of his 19th birthday but he gave a manful display and in a way I would be glad to see more youngsters thrown in at the deep end in the manner the Spaniard was. Arsenal are a team who are not afraid to blood their kids early and it hasn’t harmed them.
It’s a shame that Nemeth was loaned out to AEK Athens as he is another talent I would have hoped to be given a shot in the first team, even if it was only in the Carling Cup or as a late sub.

Why did we loan Rafa loan out Nemeth anyways?
Was it part of the deal for Sotiris Kyrgiakos?
He is a very promising prospect who is better than Voronin.
Also its not as if we have numerous strikers that we can send away.
We have Torres. thats it.
Rafa should have at least bought or loaned a striker to provide cover for torres in case of injury. If he gets injured who will play striker? Voronin? I hope not
Hopefully the injured recover and we dont have any major injuries throughout the season otherwise we are F**ked

Ayala i don’t think is ready yet and doesn’t look strong enough to be a centre back yeah left or right side might be better.
About Nemeth i hope Raffa don’t let him leave because that kid has the whole package and has the potential to be just as good as torres, please raffa don’t get this one wrong. I love this kid and he is deffiantely in the liverpool strikers mould.
plus give babel a chance up front for four or five games alongside torres please please, the kid is bursting to make a impression he had a good pre-season better then lucas anyway but froze on the first game, which liverpool player didn’t…..give the kid plenty of chances till january and then if he hasn’t proved himself yeah sell him…
who else agree’s with me?

Rassell, I admire your optimism. Babel has been given chances though not as his preferred central striking role. To me what lets him down massively is not because he is ‘played out of position’. It is really his attitude and his lack of game intelligence. Rafa and Sammy Lee sees him on the training pitch EVERYDAY and EVERY SESSION and probably in teh best position to assess as to where he is most effective as compared to what we can tell who only catches glimpses of his performances now and then. I mean if he is that earth shatteringly more effective than Torres and Gerrard, I would say use him. At this stage of what I have seen, I seriously doubt that to be so.
Look at Yossi. He comes in as a left midfielder to replace Babel in the Spurs’ game but was all over the place. His presence was felt almost instantly. It made me wonder why Babel doesn’t learn a bit of that. Or take Kuyt for instance. He is not the fastest nor the most flashy on the field but he links very well with others. Babel just doesn’t see if he can’t even be effective on the ’sides’/'wings’; how can you be relied upon to be part of the ‘backbone’ or center of the team?
Every game and every point won is crucial from now on. If I am put down my best team for the job, I don’t see Babel in the middle ahead of Gerrard and Torres. Based on past performances, Babel doesn’t instill a lot of confidence. All that said, I am hoping mad at the same time he will improve drastically and be a success in Anfield. If it doesn’t go well, I think we just have to accept that the time is up for him. Babel on loan may not be such a bad deal. Perhaps we can take VDV on as another loan deal. VDV may not succeed either but at least he has a more ‘reliable’ CV till date compared to Babel.

to someone who said “how many kids come thro the rank at anfield since rafa. not many”.
true. however how many exciting prospects (gerrard, rooney, owen) have come through the ranks at the other top 4 clubs. none! maybe wilshere in a few years but apart from that the top 4 have to mostly buy youngsters from other clubs. so you cannot say that it is just rafas fault. he has changed the way the academy is working and has got rid of lots of coaches and replaced them.

Top 4 clubs don’t have time for youngsters to learn and make mistakes. Radical idea, but top 4 teams shouldn’t be allowed youth systems but should have to pay for the youth development at other premiership clubs. If they want them then they should have to buy them – that way they’d get played

i think wishere wil be an arsenal version of neil mellor. he will have epic potential but reach a level and stop there much like mellor did due to injury.
onto ayala: i think kelly is better and more confident in both defensive and attacking responsibility. when u see him in preseason he was VERY impressive and im surprised he didnt play instead of ayala.
Nemeth: if u ask me he has gone on loan in order to get a seasons worth of first team action which is probably on a level between the reserves and our first team so it wont be such a jump when he does play first team for us. this suggests to me he will be makin first team appearances next season or maybe this season if torres gets injured he may be recalled as cover(if a recall is written into hes loan contract)
