Ten Players Your Club Can Still Buy But Probably Shouldn’t
by Christian Bailey on September 3rd, 2009 23 commentsThe transfer window may be shut but these guys don’t care, because they have no contract! From Everton rejects to former Liverpool heroes to Arsenal stalwarts to West Ham and Newcastle United mercenaries. These players should, with some exceptions, be avoided like the plague!

The Daily Mail came up with a list of players that were out of contract and therefore allowed to move to your club even with the transfer window firmly shut, we give our thoughts on the players you really shouldn’t hope to see in your clubs colours!
Mark Viduka
(Australian Mercenary football who used to have an eye for goal but more likely to take your clubs money and sit on the bench eating everyones food. No goals in his last 16 Newcastle appearances and an ever expanding waist line are two good reasons to steer clear)
Lucas Neill
(Australian Mercenary footballer number two. It’s quite incredible how much West Ham United played this guy to stand around looking tough, being positionally inept whilst giving the aura of a player who used to be quite good but clearly not a player worth throwing money at)
Andy van der Meyde
(Without wishing to get into any legal shenanigans I could state, quite tactfully, that the Dutchman has issues with alcohol, or at least that’s what has been reported on many occasions across many different sources of media. Hasn’t started a Premier League match in over two and a half years!
Michael Ball
(Actually this guy may not be a bad signing. Great start to his career saw him do well at Everton and capped by England before a move to Rangers seemed to scupper his career and the left back fell out with the then Ibrox boss Dick Advocaat quite spectacularly. A career resurrection was attempted at Man City but his time there was blighted by injury and loss of form. Still only 29 though.
Moritz Volz
(In my view the pick of this bunch. 26 year old former Arsenal man Volz is a classy right back who is equally adept going forward as he is determined and passionate at the back. Made a name for himself at Fulham where he enjoyed five good years. Surely he will get a new club before long. We are talking about a full German international who is available for nothing and you don’t get many of them to the dozen!)
Dietmar Hamann
(Now I used to be a big fan of this German international but I think the clock is running down on this midfielders career. At 36 and with a host of memories drawn from successful spells in his homeland and here in England, with a Champions League winners medal, Two UEFA Cup winners medals, Two Bundesliga titles to his name and a World Cup Runners Up medal it’s time for the battler to do what every player of his stature and age should do…Yes that’s right…Wait for a call from Sven at Notts County (and no I am not joking!).
Glauber Berti
(I am having a hard time believing this guy even exists. Played just six minutes for Man City before being released. Imagine how bad, or how little faith is placed in you, that after barely the amount of time it takes to make a cup of tea, you are deemed not good enough)
Lauren
(32 year old Cameroonian international did it all for Arsenal over his seven years at the club but then moved to Portsmouth where he found his place taken by Glen Johnson. Still could do a decent job for a lower level Premier League side but seems like he may move to Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv)
Dwight Yorke
(37 year old former goal machine turned midfielder is surely considering quitting the game, if only so he can try win back the love of his former flame Jordan, or perhaps not)
Henri Camara
(Six clubs in six years tells its own story. Never really able to settle at the clubs he has moved to and whether thats down to temperatmental issues or because the teams he has played for have a knack of either getting relegated or very close to doing so, is hard to say. Can occasionally score goals but not nearly enough to consider him a viable target but no doubt someone will take another chance on the Senegalese International)

why didnt Liverpool sign lucas neill? they wanted him when he signed for west ham so why not take him on a free? instead you spend your massive transfer kitty on some greek mug that looks like the male gigolo in duece bigalow. you can say what you like about him but he is still better than the shite that let 2 in at bolton….mugs

Definitely avoid Van Der Meyde! He played less times last season than Aquilani!
Warren Bloggs - September 3rd, 2009 at 9:02 pm
I would take a gamble on Luca Neill and realease Phillip Degen. Hopefully, Glen will stay fit this season and play the vast majority of games but Neill would be decent cover no matter what this journalist spats. I would also sign Rafael Sobis and would have taken Jan Venegoor of Hesselink before Hull grabbed him! Not great players but capable of providing cover.

can some one explain to me about about the loan window?, does the premiership allow loans to take place after the transfer window?, is it still possible liverpool could get a couple of players on loan or do we have to wait for jan

I think that rafa should think about definatly Ball and Neill as both would add depth to the squad and if find form from somewhere then worth it. Due to lacking depth uptop Camera may not be a badxshout at all he has pace

lucas neill to liverpool,u must be joking, have u not read carraghers biography.his friends nearly beat him up after neill had broken carraghers leg, they would have done it except david thompson was with neill at the time.
The Days Of Dalglish Are Nearly Back - September 3rd, 2009 at 11:16 pm
Just goes to show how mindless some people are that come on here! Names are mentioned and people jump straight on it thinking we should sign them. None of the mentioned players are fit to don a Liverpool jersey! We’ll be making do with what we have til at least Jan. Hopefully the Yank twats have gone by then and we can look at bringing in another quality striker/atttacking midfielder. Beckham on loan, Van der Vaart loan/but if he’s available and v. Nistelrooy would be cracking!
Jeduardo - September 4th, 2009 at 12:14 am
arsenal should sign lucas niell

heard that luis garcia is a free agent as well, think it would be worth getting him back in the squad he’s only 31.
and chelsea and juventus now how good he can be on his day…

As stated, Lucas Neill is just a mercenary !!!
What happened to players wanting to play football…because they LOVE the game ? . How many people would give anything to be playing professional football in 1 of the top leagues in the world for a fraction of the wages these so called professionals ask for ?
I get fed up listening to these prima donnas wanting X amount of wages when there is so much unemployment, poverty & homelesness. I don’t even get £50,000 per year, never mind per week.
PS sorry for going off on 1 but these players really annoy me.

If a player buys out his contract and becomes a free agent then any player can be up for grabs!
I have heard from my cousin in Spain who says David Villa has just done this and will sign for Liverpool on a free soon!

lucas neill is a money hungry cnut.neill will only ever sign for the highest bidder.glad as fcuk he didnt sign with us and chose the money at west ham.cant wait to see him here in australia playing our version of 5th div in england just hoofing the ball up the field.allahs boot.
baggins09 - September 5th, 2009 at 9:11 am
i think your cousin might be winding you up, villa loves valencia so can’t see him shitting on them like that. he said he didn’t want to leave unless it was of benefit to the club so it would be a real turn around
