Truly a Spurs goal machine!
Jermain Defoe is a natural born finisher. He has scored goals wherever he has played and his return to White Hart Lane was an inspired and very necessary signing that Harry Redknapp was wise enough to complete.
The former West Ham man has been in lethal form of late for both club and country and he is nearing his peak as a player and could well be the difference between a Europa League finish and a real shot at breaking into the top four.
The east London born striker felt he had no choice but to leave the club when he felt he wasn’t getting the first team starts he deserved and in retrospect it was an expensive mistake as the club forked out a big fee to bring him back. Successive Tottenham bosses had mistakenly used him to sparingly and in the end it led to the player feeling he had to leave.
At international level it’s true that he isn’t the natural partner for Wayne Rooney but that doesn’t make their double act any less effective. Some seem to think that Emile Heskey would be a better fit but I disagree.
Redknapp now has an armoury of top level strikers and ones he can mix and match to his hearts content but Defoe will always be the first name on his team sheet because he is the one of the club’s quartet of forwards who can make something out of nothing.
Clearly Harry is well acquainted with the abilities that the 26 year old possesses having managed him at both West Ham and Portsmouth and of all the players he has brought to the club, Defoe, along with Palacios, are perhaps the ones who have made the most impact.
