Liverpool’s Shirt Deal Details: Four Year Deal Worth £80m

Standard Chartered Bank is to become the main sponsor of Liverpool football club after signing a four-year deal.
The agreement, which begins in July, runs to the end of the 2013-14 season and will end Liverpool’s 17-year association with brewer Carlsberg.
The bank has operations around the world, while Liverpool is one of the most famous UK clubs globally.
It comes after US financial giant Aon signed a sponsorship deal with champions Manchester United. The partnership brought together “two highly successful organisations”, said Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow.
The club said the deal aimed to step up Liverpool’s profile in the lucrative Asian markets, as well as in Africa and the Middle East.
“Many branches in these countries will effectively be a shop window for Liverpool football club and a means of attracting more supporters to the cause,” Mr Purslow said.
It is Liverpool’s largest ever commercial agreement – with media reports suggesting it was worth £80m over four years.
Last week, Carlsberg retained its role as the official beer of the England national team and the FA Cup.
The news came on the day the British Medical Association (BMA) called for an end to alcohol sponsorship of sport. (BBC Sport)
So given that the British government may well decide to ban drink advertising in sport, after all they are apparently trying to get the country to reverse it’s drinking habits, this is a very well timed deal.
Perhaps its the kind of big money contract that could see Rafa given a few bob to spend in January?

I am a world citizen and I will not be buying a new Liverpool shirt as they are sponsored by a BANK… who just so happened to cause the entire credit crunch we are experiencing.
I therefore have real problems with advertising them in this manner.
I will only be buying one if I’m allowed to put duct tape over their dreadful name. Why didnt muslim fans do this with carlsburg – and are you actually allowed to support Liverpool – i.e. a team funded by alcohol? Not having a pop, just interested in knowing the rules and what you can and can’t do

amd you can buy one with out a sponsers name

I will be doing that as I don’t believe in banks and can not be seen encouraging their frivilous behaviour.

does that mean you can’t watch certain games because other teams are sponsored by beer’s and what about carling cup games?
to anon 8:26pm where do you get your wages paid if your so anti-banks and don’t beleive in them? i don’t beleive in any god christian or muslim but i would still wear a liverpool shirt even if it was sponsored by ‘jesus and allah ltd’ its the club i support not the sponsor (and i am not trying to have a dig at any religion either i mean no offence) and surely by buying the shirt then duct taping it you’ve already gone against your principles, but it’ll just mean your some one who has got messed up principles and looks a dick instead of just having principles and been a dick
