Reliable centre back is considering his options.
According to a report in The Daily Mail, English giants Liverpool and German powerhouse Bayern Munich are closely monitoring the situation of Chelsea centre-back Alex.
The strong defender’s current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2010, and the 27-year-old reportedly wants a longer deal than the two-year extension offered by the Blues.
Alex’s place in the Chelsea starting XI is by no means assured, with new manager Carlo Ancelotti getting success with a partnership of John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho at the heart of his defence.
Bayern are keen to add a world class defender to their squad following the departure of Lucio to Inter back in August, and head coach Louis van Gaal appears to be a keen admirer of Alex.
Milan, Juventus, Olympique Lyonnais and Real Madrid are among the other clubs linked with the former PSV Eindhoven player, who is currently out with a groin injury. (Goal.com)
I guess this was always going to happen. With Ricardo Carvalho back from injury and performing well Brazilian centre back Alex is clearly keen to look for alternatives sitting on the bench at Stamford Bridge. Thus far this term Carlo Ancelotti has used John Terry and Carvalho as his mainstays with Branislav Ivanovic as cover leaving the currently sidelined Alex wondering if he will get a look in under the new Chelsea boss.
It is not surprising that many big sides are considering a move for the former PSV man, he is a solid and dependable customer who performed well last term when drafted in to cover for injuries. Perhaps the Blues boss does not consider the 27 year old part of his long terms plans and if so expect Alex to be considering his options.
