Manchester City’s Adebayor Set for Three Match Ban for Arsenal Madness
by Mr Neutral on September 15th, 2009 7 commentsFormer Gunner set for lengthy ban.
Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has been hit with a double charge by the Football Association in the wake of last weekend’s win over former club Arsenal.
Adebayor has been charged with violent conduct for his challenge on Robin van Persie and he has been charged with improper conduct for his goal celebration at Eastlands.
The £25m summer signing from Arsenal escaped punishment from referee Mark Clattenburg after appearing to stamp on Van Persie after a tackle between the pair.
Van Persie accused his former team-mate of deliberately setting out to hurt him when he caught him in the face with his boot.
Adebayor then almost sparked a riot in the away fans end after running the length of the field to celebrate his goal in the 4-2 victory in front of the Arsenal supporters.
The Togo international apologised for his over-zealous celebration, but expressed his innocence over the clash with Van Persie.
If Adebayor is found guilty of violent conduct he will be handed a three-match ban that would result in him missing Sunday’s derby against Manchester United and that suspension could be increased if he is also found guilty of improper conduct.
Adebayor has until 6pm on Wednesday to respond to the charge, but it looks almost certain he will be handed a three-match ban with the charge of improper conduct to be heard at a later date.
“The Football Association today issued two charges against Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor following Saturday’s Premier League fixture between Manchester City and Arsenal,” said a statement issued by the FA.
“Under the fast-track disciplinary process, Adebayor has been charged with violent conduct following an incident with Robin van Persie, which resulted in the Arsenal player receiving facial injuries.
“Referee Mark Clattenburg has advised the FA that he did not see this incident, but has confirmed that had he done so, he would have sent Adebayor off for violent conduct. The player has until 6pm on Wednesday evening to respond to the charge.
“Adebayor has also been charged with improper conduct following his actions when turning and running the full length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Arsenal supporters after scoring.
“The Greater Manchester Police have written to The FA with their views on this incident. A separate date will now be arranged for a commission to consider Adebayor’s goal celebration.” (Sky Sports)
So it seems that Emmanuel Adebayor will get at least a three match ban, just for the alleged stamp on Robin Van Persie, and perhaps even more for the celebration. It was clearly an emotional day for the former Gunners man who has been vilified for his behaviour before and indeed since, his move to Eastlands and he will be lucky to avoid any suspension his behaviour.
The fact that the match referee Mark Clattenburg has confirmed he would have sent off the player if he had seen his challenge on his former teammate seems likely to have some gravitas so I will be surprised if the ban the player receives isn’t at least a three match one.

Ha! If It was me I wouldn’t stop at just a ‘flick’.
I’d smash his face in! The feckin’ squealer!
RVP has totally lost my respect. He lied, cheat, and worse of all ’squeal’.
A grown man shouldn’t do that. He should get up and punch Ade in the face!
Instead he cop out, true to his cowardly nature.

Have you watched the replays? What cant speak cant lie. The thick clown not only turns his foot to ensure full contact, but he changes the pace at which his foot descends, stamping on RVPS face. Its one of the most willfully malicious attacks i have seen.Try to imagine that lurking great lump standing over you with his foot in the air, not very appealing is it.I’m afraid that you have paid 25mill for a twat. What is really alarming is that you citeh boys seem happy about it, like being a oversized bully is something to be proud of, is it any wonder that people think northerners are morons
I know you all think that the sun shines out of his arse at the moment, but wait until he gets bored with trying to prove his point. Do you honestly think that the Arsenal fans would have turned against him for no reason? He is greedy and lazy, not a happy combination.

there would be no class in punching ade in the face. if rvp did that then he would be stooping down to douche bag status like ade has. at least rvp kept playing through the match and could have possibly scored a hat trick in the last 10 minutes!

4-2 , 4-2 , 4-2. Adebayor is already a City legend. Class goal , class stamp , class celebration – deserves a little break now. Enjoy ur last season with Fabregas before u fade into obscurity.

Hey Dear/Sir, I am an African!!!
I don’t know what your feeling to the incident but why you lie? I know Adebayor is best a year ago but last year he is not in a good fitness, so how one can say Arsenal home fans abuse Adebayor? Look the “Legen” Ibramovic during Barca and Inter UEFA paly; evenif he heard his fromer fans were ready to abuse him with texts and songs. He did not react to what they want to do and all of you, including me taste the grace of Ibra in the match. When I came to my point, Adebayor did a great mistake i.e he scratched RVP’s face, kick the leg of Fabregas and creates clash to his continent met ” Alex Song”.
Really, the decision of the FA should have continuity and be unifrom with no color difference in the feature.
At the end, Totenham’s manger Harry Redknap, before saying something about the judge of FA, look the replay again.
