Was a strange one gerrard and lucas both seemed to be playing deep lucas did fine holding lot better with benayoun down the middle behind torres and kuyt out on the right

Lucas’ biggest problem is that he is more like Steven Gerrard, than Alonso or Mascherano.

His favoured position is ‘attacking midfielder’ however he’s never gonna play in that position ahead of Gerrard. Last night when we set up as a 4-4-2 (or 4-41-1 with Kuyt playing slightly behind Torres) Lucas was left with the ‘holding role’ whilst Gerrard obvioulsy pushed on behind Torres & Kuyt.

I reckon that Lucas could play a more attacking role with Masch holding and Gerrard playing off Torres, but whilst he is partnering gerrard in the middle he is always going to be the more defensive of the two.

I believe this lad will make the postioin his own eventually, Gerrard is 29 now and will have to pace himself a bit more, over the next couple of years he will have to play a mopre withdrawn role and perhaps Lucas will then come to the fore

i think lucas will be great in the next few years i think been part of a three man mid might suit lucas better knowing masch is behind would put less pressure on him defensively and he could play with a bit more freedom him and gerrard would both get back if needed anyway without playing such dissaplined role and could push up more. id try-

and then rotate lucas with aquilani when he’s fit to break him in, then against less attacking teams have lucas holding and gerrard aquilani attacking, i think we need to focus on getting a new dm though i don’t think this masch to barca thing has dissapeared regardless of weather or not he’s signed a new contract or not.

From last night’s game. Only lucas and kuyt were smiling to each other. Why? Because they both know they have done a good job.

Lucas plays alot better than people give him credit for! no one talks about him when he plays well and his efforts go uncredited . . . as soon as he makes a mistake its. . . aaaaww lucas is shite, its totally unbalanced.

Most players would strugle when there own fans boo them

hes improving, hes doing well now, hes only 22 so he will get better he has a good 6 years before hes in his peak and he will improve . . he is improving!

As lucas gets more confident hell play waaay better, confidence is evrything in football and you can tell hes getting more confident.

i think lucas was our best player last night, gerrard gave the ball away more than anyone, torres didn’t look interested, insua was poor, johnsons crossing was shite,yossi and skrtl played ok carra wasn’t his usual self, reina kept having the look on his face of a man who wanted to be at madrid with his bitch alonso, riera was wasteful but made some good runs, lucas was as bad as everyone else first half but definately best player second half.

did anyone else think there was a look of tension in the tunnel no one looked determined it was as if they was expecting a poor game i thought.

LucARSE LeaveUS is and always will be crap. If Rafa hadn’t paid £6m he would have left. Spearing is a lot better…….

How can people compare Lucus and Spearing when we only see Spearing play a few mins for the first team….Rafa see them in training everyday and I think he knows who is the better player!
I also remember many giving similar shit to Carra when he scored a few own goals as well….. What is the point of giving all these shit to our own player? He is 22 and have time to improve.

Lucas was brought in to be the next Gerrard. We do not know how good he is going to be. It is still far too early to judge, given that he didn’t play that often. One player whom i think is really showing signs of becoming the next Gerrard is Stephen Ireland. He is so good that Mark Hughes built a team around him.
