Tottenham Planning Audacious £10m Van der Vaart January Raid

Portsmouth Vs Tottenham Tickets Still Available!
Harry Redknapp is already toying with the idea of bundling a brown paper and string wrapped parcel containing Dutch disappointment Rafael van der Vaart into the boot of his Colonial Biscuit leather upholstered saloon. Van der Vaart could be available for £10m. (Guardian)
You have to feel sorry for Rafael Van der Vaart, sure he’s got a very hot wife (Link) and he probably earns millions a year, but at the same time he has been led a merry dance by his Spanish employers. Most of his Dutch colleagues at Real Madrid opted to leave in search of regular first team football, Robben, Sneijder and Huntelaar all left but Rafael was told he had a future at the club and that he should stay put because first team football was coming his way. They lied.
Thus far this season the former Ajax man has taken part in just one match when he came on for Guti for the final nine minutes of the last game against Villarreal. Understandably many have suggested he leaves in January and of course Tottenham are looking for a attacking central midfielder, according to Harry Redknapp at least, who believes the club doesn’t have a great deal of strength in depth in this area of the pitch.
The north London club of course sent a delegation to Madrid to inquire about the club’s Dutch contingent and have been regularly linked with a move for Ruud Van Nistlerooy. If Redknapp could snap up Rafael Van der Vaart for the £10m price tag quoted then it would be a masterful bit of investment.

This has been discussed a lot in Spurs forums: sadly, although he has been playing wide left (and is injured at the moment), the attacking midfield role is the one preferred by Modric, and good as he is, I relaly can’t see VDV displacing Luca (when fit) – so, would he really want to leave the subs bench at Real for that at the Lane? On top of this, ‘Arry has just bought in Krankjar (who’s one of ‘Arry’s “triffic” players), who also plays across the midfield, and he wants O’Hara back from Pompey (who fills in for Modric when ‘Arry wants to close the game down a bit), and he only went there ‘cos he wasn’t get much game time.
So, personally, I think this would be a great move for Spuurs, not so sure for VDV – especially in World Cup Year.

ok, i’m a liverpool fan, and would love to see him at the pool, but its not gonna happen. now for the one who thinks modric is a better player no, vdv is twice the player. he would be a great singnig. and modric wouldn’t have a chance as the att.mid., he’d have to be happy where harry puts him, as for the dumb ass who said get rid off keane, he should not be allowd talk about football again. keane is one off your best players EVER!why would you want rid?

Dear anonymous Liverpool fan: I am the one who said Modric is a better player than VDV. It may surprise you to hear that this is quite a common belief, if not one you share. I very rarely say things without giving a lot of thought. This is one of thosse occasions. i have really thought about this. I truly believe that modric is a better player than VDV. I am not going on seeing a compilation of goals on YouTube. I would be prepared to have a bet with you that, barring serious injury to either player, Modirc will be considered to have been (in the past tense) a better player than VDV.
This statement does not exclude the opinion I hold on VDV, which I believed was implicit within my post, even if I didn’t state it explicitly, that I consider VDV to be an exceptional player. Which is why I said that it would be a very good move for Spurs. As a Spurs fan, I was being very honest: it wouldn’t be a good move for VDV IF he went from the bench at Real to the bench at Spurs – and I believe he would. I could be wrong (- sometimes people are. Maybe my view is coloured by seeing Modric more, and more regularly, than VDV. But, there again, perhaps you haven’t seen enough of Modric – because, like I said, many Spurs fans hold the exact same belief as myself. Because of this I didn’t think I was saying anything way out there on the cusp of the unbelieevable, irrational, and quite frankly, damned insane!

As a spurs fan, i beg to differ mate. VDV is pure class, we’re talking about a player that almost singlehandedly dragged hamburg into the champion’s league, and the next season when he was injured, they were hovering above the relegation zone until he returned.
I like modric,I’ve seen plenty of him and he’s a great little player but Van Der Vaart is a far more complete player.

Rubbish!! Modric is twice the player VDV will ever be and he is younger too!!
