Liverpool Flop Dossena Set for £4.5m January Exit?

Portsmouth Vs Liverpool Tickets Still Available!
His move to Napoli collapsed during the summer, but Liverpool’s Andrea Dossena is set for another round of talks.
The full-back was on the verge of making the transfer to the Stadio San Paolo when the club baulked at the £10m price-tag.Seeing as the Partenopei have struggled in recent months, they are going back on the market for wide men in January.
“The negotiations remained in stand-by,” commented Dossena’s agent Federico Pastorello.
“It would only be an issue of starting again. We’ll see what happens.”
Dossena is still finding it difficult to find a spot in the Liverpool squad and would be eager for a return to Serie A ahead of the 2010 World Cup.
“I don’t know if things could’ve gone better with Dossena at Napoli,” mused Pastorello. (Football Italia)
With Fabio Aurelio back from injury and Emiliano Insua doing well at left back it seems that we could probably afford to allow Dossena make his much expected move back to Italy. He had an up and down season last term and at times looked woefully off the pace and with positional issues making him a bit of a loose cannon.
However he did come back to prominence with those goals against Man United and Real Madrid that should seal his place in the hearts of the fans but to be honest he has been a real disappointment. He arrived as supposedly one of the best full backs in Serie A and I was hoping that he would do well but he has fallen down the pecking order and if he does harbour hopes of making the Italian World Cup squad, he won’t find it easy to convince Lippi of his merits whilst sitting on the Anfield bench.
I have read some reports suggesting that a fee of around £4.5m may be enough to whisk him to Napoli and given our financial situation I would imagine we would take that money and run.

I think this is just one of those case of a good player just not settling in a new country. Best move would be for him to leave Liverpool and head back to Italy.
If he was 21 then sure give him another chance, but at 28/29 he should be playing his best football and it’s pretty clear that that won’t be for Liverpool.
5m would be a bad price as you’d get back almost all of the 7m transfer fee.
Verdict: Sell and use money to finance summer spending plans. If allowed by G&H that is.

typo…. should read “5m wouldn’t be a bad”…

No brainer really 2 better performers in the squad and insua being a lot younger one of about 6 i think we could afford to lose bringing in some money would let itandje, degen, plessis, voronin and kyrgiakos go too

Play him as a forward, he is a forward not a back, he played all his juniour career as a forward, tooka year off to travel the world, came back, and his team was short a player, he was supposed to not play due to groin strain but came and played had a blinder been there ever since..

RetryBoy, NOooo….Plessis has real potential…the rest I agree we should let go…
saif - September 26th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
yeah you can tell that from what he can do against teams on the wing i think rafa should play him as a winger against top teams eg arsenal ect i would sell lucas instanji voronin plesis and other fringe players go and then use what ever money from that to buy some quality youngsters eg di fedrico, hazard ect and javi martinez and a few other quality players

Him and about £10m for Lavezzi. I hope Aquilanni settles better than Dossena though.

Plessis looked really good in the reserves but every time he has been given the chance in 1st team football he has looked out of his depth whereas spearing has always risen to the occasion and deserves more chances, seems to have jumped ahead in rafa’s eyes now as well. think plessis will make it as a footballer but not at liverpools level

this guy is really good atackin
remember man u real madrid
he could hav got 2 at craven cottage
id keep him for a backup winger hes awesome goin forward
but at left back not really good

i agree with anon 1:34pm about going for a player plus cash for lavezzi but if babel hasn’t proved his worth by then i’d throw him in on it, so the two players and about 5m, beavis and butthead are more likely to finance it if they only have to put in 5m.
i’d like to see him dossena played on the left if that is actually his natural position like anon 1:01pm said he does look more affective there, and if he turns good we’ve saved on getting raped over the price of a winger and still got cover if aurelio gets injured.

its always been acknowledged that Brett “give me money” Kimmorley, has been all about himself. Always has his hand out for cash for interviews etc, it was the same when he was about to come to us, he just played the money game, pissed off managers
greedy on the field & off

Degen has shown one good game against leeds johnson is different class and darby is the best young right back in the country

Get rid of Dossena, Degen, Voronin, Itandje and Plessis. We have cover in these positions anyway and this would generate more money for the purchases.
We are in desperate need of a Left Winger and Striker, if we can bring in two quality players for these positions, we will have a trim and hungry squad, at the moment our squad is too big, reduce for quality, then when necessary blood the youth players.

GIVE HIM AWAY FOR FREE!!!
Hate to repeat myself but….
I was reading recently a point I think Rafa was making:
If you look at our left back position in the squad, the combined fees for these 3 international class players was maybe £9m …Insua (£2m), Dosenna (£7m), Aurelio (Free) (….and still we have Buchtmann coming through but ignore that for now)
You could look at the situation a couple of ways, doing some Mental Maths:
* if you divide it by 3 and say they were £3m each — thats not bad for these players
or
* If you say Insua is maybe worth £5m (at a cheap estimate based on his recent performances in the first team) and Aurelio £4m (Most likely a lot more)
…WE COULD SURELY AFFORD TO GIVE DOSSENA AWAY FOR FREE!!!!
Be rid of him for ever and lose nothing when you look at other players values,
as Aurelio and Insua must be worth twice the original outlay on the 3 full backs combined!!!
…same could be said of voronin. If we got enough to cover the cost of paying his wages since he arrived, the club would be doing very good, and then we would be the ones laughing at the fools who take him off our hands
…We could cut our losses, but it would be nice to get money to bring in somebody good

Why give him away when you could receive more money for him
