Good to see a footballer showing his human side!
Bordeaux winger Geraldo Wendel has moved to distance himself from reports linking him with Tottenham.
The Brazilian midfielder is reported to be a target for Harry Redknapp as he looks to add extra creativity to his ranks.
The 27-year-old has spent the last three years in France, having begun his career back in his homeland.
He admits that he is aware of the speculation regarding supposed interest from Spurs’, but insists he has no plans to leave Bordeaux any time soon.
“I am not thinking about it at the moment,” he said.
“I am under contract at Bordeaux until 2012.
“It is true that I feel really good in the region and the city. I have bought a house here, my son loves it here and he has just started playing football. We have friends in Bordeaux, it is really cool.” (Sky Sports)
It’s quite refreshing, if true, to hear a player state quite categorically that a) he doesn’t want to leave the club and then b) state the reasons for staying are sensible and not financially motivated. To hear a player state that he likes it where he is, and that his son loves it there, rather than list unconvincing reasons as to his intentions.
Clearly if he goes back on his word now he will look more than a little heartless. As for Spurs, well they are clearly doing well enough in attack and on the wings, to not worry about missing out on this talented Brazilian!
