Liverpool are apparently keen to swap Ryan Babel for Werder Bremen’s Aaron Hunt (no word yet as to how Werder feel about it) (Guardian)
Ryan Babel it an enigma that continues to sway public opinion among Liverpool fans. Personally I think that his future at the club will be decided by the summer. If he continues to apply himself in the manner he did when he came on against Hull, where his cameo was greatly welcomed, then he has a future but will still find it hard to win a regular place in the starting eleven until he persuades Rafa that he can do a good job on a regular basis, which means putting in a good performance four times out of five.
However I like Aaron Hunt and on the occasions when I have seen him in action he has impressed me. The German, with English parentage, has been a big hit at Werder Bremen where he has progressed through the ranks and is now a regular. He can play up front alongside an other striker but he is more effective when out wide on the flank.
At 23 he is on the fringes of the senior German international set up and has a bright future ahead of him and Benitez does believe that Babel is not going to cut it then a deal that would see the players swapped would be a decent one.

I agree. Babel is treading a very fine line at Anfield now.

Face!

ryan babel is a good player when he wants to be he might of had a good game at hull but there the type of games where we dont need him to put in the performance like he did we need him to put them kinda shows on when we are playing arsenal, man u, chealsea and other big clubs but he doesent he thinks he has tp play like ronaldo but hes not that good and he makes to many mistakes trying to do so sell him sell sell sell and make beneyoum 1st team hes on fire at te min we need a work horse like him scince we lost alonso
isaac hunt - October 5th, 2009 at 3:26 pm
i dont know why but i do like babel. if we were to swap him we should swap him for mesut ozil. he is very young but some of the performances in the europa league have been awesome. he plays as an attacking midfielder and would be great for us.
anonymous - October 5th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
AS LONG AS WE HAVE LUCAS ,IT DOESNT MATTER IF WE SWAPPED HIM FOR PELE HIMSELF WE STILL BOUND TO CATCH A WHIPPING AND THEN SOME
anonymous - October 5th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
i agree özil would be a better choice. he played well in the U21 final.
jimmyk - October 5th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
lucas is not as bad as people make out. open your eyes and dont just jump on the hater bandwagon you fool. lucas is young, and is improving. he has been one of our most consistent players this season, more so than stevie.
babel i feel has not improved, where lucas has been getting constant game time to improve, babel has been restricted to cameo’s…its a vicious cycle but i dont think that liverpool is right for babel’s development (unless he stamps authority on the field and wins a regular starting place)…
Warren Bloggs - October 5th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Isaac Hunt is spot on there, as much as I appreiciate a player like Hunt, i woul definetly rather have Mezut Ozil! What about Andriy Voronin and Ryan Babel for Ozil and Aaron Hunt?
Warren Bloggs - October 5th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
Is Aaron Hunt a better play than Ryan Babel? Personally, I don’t think so and although he would be a good squad player I would rather swap him for the likes of Dossena, Degen, Voronin etc.
jimmyk - October 5th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
özil would be a good shout, and having Butchman could be a bonus in luring him over. on the flipside he is similar to pacheco though…
anonymous - October 5th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
i agree lucas is learning his trade……………..i’m giving him unitl next year to become a world class midfielder.what we should focus on now is staying one of englands big 4………..
anonymous - October 5th, 2009 at 6:57 pm
lucas isnt young anymore. he will nvr be a world class footballer. and as long as our starting 11 has a player of his calibre, we will nvr win the premier league. just compare essien, ballack, lampard, carrick, fabegras, even barry, to lucas. typing this is already dampening my spirits.

babels rubbish
anonymous - October 5th, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Babel is a qualty footballer, sadly he’s also lazy and doesn’t give a sh*t about Liverpool. Get rid ASAP
RaNE - October 5th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
aaron hunt is a good player i watched him playing the other day in the europa league match and hands up he was the best player on the pitch BUT and A MASSIVE BUT he plays on the wing where i feel we dont need any more players we need central or central attacking maybe aquil will do it but id think we need back up for him
anonymous - October 5th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
The trouble is Rafa signs too many average players, what we need is for him to pack his bags along with Babel, Voronin, Lucas, Reira, Kyriagkos (Why oh why), Degen (worse than Anderton), Itandje, El Zhar, Dossena. Bring in quality replacements (New man with the promise of money) then when rotating blood the youngsters (For fucks sake, we have them bloody use them)
saif - October 5th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
hunt and ozil for voronin plus bable plus lucas and get martinez can come in as a replacement
anonymous - October 5th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Hmmm. Seems like we’re finding scapegoats for poor performances but the facts are we can score goals but we can’t defend. We have a problem with the back four and breaking out through midfield. In looking for attacking defenders, wer’re failing to defend. I don’t think Carra is to blame. Collectively, the back four is suspect. With Alonso gone, we are struggling to get out of trouble. Lucas isn’t, and will never be, good enough. In the meantime, Stevie needs to get back in that role. At the back we need to tighten up. Babel should be played up front , not wide and Kuyt needs a rest. Riera is good enough on the left but what we need is someone to play right wing. It’s not over but unless we re-organise it might be.
anonymous - October 5th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Agree with anonymous @ 7.58 pm;
I’d like to see us get rid of:
Lucas – 5m
Dossena – 5m
Degen – 2m
Kryiagkos – anything
Riera (if price is right as I actually think he’s alright) – 8m
Babel – I like him but he just hasn’t cut it for me, 8m.
Voronin – 3m
Say we got those prices for those players, that’d be 31m. Apparently we have 18-19m left in the kitty (if you remember the simao rumours). Say that leaves us with 50m. DEMAND 25m off the board (if they wanna see us win anything, not a lot to ask for a title contending team), then with the 75m i’d bring in:
David Silva – 20m
Hamsik – 10m
Gonzalo Higuain – 15m, might be able to tempt him from madrid seeing as he’s behind ronaldo, benzema raul and van nistelrooy so wont get much football unless theyre injured.
David Wheater – Good, old fashioned cb, and he’s english and would be cheap as boro are playing in a lower division – 5m.
Ashley Young – 20m, I know ppl say he is over rated and inconsistent but I think he just needs to be playing around better players, and the likes of gerrard and torres would bring out the best of him.
Any thoughts? Just ideas is all!
saif - October 5th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
hey anonymous above agreewith you on everything but what if the arab comes in what whould you demand then for me it would be 50 mill and instead of selling lucas voronin and lucas i’d swap them for hunt and ozil and what about vieira he may b e old but we can get him on the cheap and why isn’t martinez or defour on your wish list
anonymous - October 5th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
you clowns are a laugh a minute, who in thier right mind is gonna want to come to liverpool? would you as a pro player? fighting tight arse owners, negative overly tactical stubborn coach….. its not exactly the mecca it once was. you’ll be lucky to keep the 2 stars you’ve got!. time to own yur bad liverpool yur seven shades of shit this year and not gonna see any glory for awhile yet.
anonymous - October 5th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
how crap is lucas by the way!
anonymous - October 5th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
I usually avoid this site, like any person with standards – because of the quality of the articles, yes, and also the complete retards commenting beneath them.
But i commend you on writing a thread about Ryan Babel without using a phrase to the effect of “world-class potential” or “he has all the ability in the world, if only he could…” etc.
Well done.
anonymous - October 6th, 2009 at 1:01 am
I will hold rafa responsible for babel woes. What do you expect from a player that is not give the opportunity to play.Babel is quality,We should understand that practice make one to be perfect.Babel lack confidence and it is because rafa have no confidence in him.How do you expect such a player to be motivated.to me babel is better than kuyt ,riera and even ashely young. We dont know what we have till it is gone……copy that
anonymous - October 6th, 2009 at 8:25 am
Benitez needs the sack, he is not making any moves! Same old benitez (we played really well and we are improving) **** off, You sell alonso and you buy a an italian which you dont even know wether he is good or not, look at dossena? best left back in seria A, but here he is the most humiliating defender i have seen, he wouldnt even get a startin 11 in southampton for me.
Liverpool needs a new manager, i have lost my patience with hin nonsence!
So many shit players-
Dossena, Kryiagkos, Lucas, Degen, Aurelio, Babel, Riera, Voronin, Insua, Ngog etc…
Cant you see????
Riera has lost it, Babel is a waste, Voronin has never been, Insua cant defend, Dossena runs like a headless chicken, Lucas should play for pompey, Aurelio not good enough, kryiakos and degen i dont know where or what he sees in them…
Now tell me What would you do with this Manager?
anonymous - October 6th, 2009 at 8:28 am
Babel is far betta than Lucas, Rafa shud hav his head read , I think you let him go he’s bound to haunt Liverpool..how is to get consistency when he’s not consistently not exposed?
anonymous - October 6th, 2009 at 8:34 am
Mascherano looks like he wants to go, he dosent want to play anymore! He is not the same as last year!
I dont blame him, with benitez in charge i even wouldnt play for him!
You sell Alonso, what the ****? Now Mascherano goes! And your stuck with Lucas and Aquilani (Crocked), he could of bought so many, very cheap even (Catterlmole, Van der Vaart, Sneijder, Bentley, Krancjar etc..)
I have been a liverpool supporter for many years, but this manager has done my heading! He always does the wrong move (Alonso & Torres) were his best buys, thats it!!!!
anonymous - October 6th, 2009 at 8:52 am
Another idiotic Benitez deal… Aaron Hunt – are you kidding?! I live in Germany, I follow the Bundesliga, and Hunt is NOT better than Babel at all!
In fact Babel turns our to be quite a decent player, however, he doesn’t get any chances. Why playing Riera on the left, as it was the case against Chelski? Every of Riera’s attempts to try to get forward was easily stopped.
Oh my Good, Aaron Hunt – I can’t believe it.
baggins09 - October 6th, 2009 at 9:16 am
alonso wasn’t his best buy you tit he played very averagely for several seasons then got the hump when rafa tried to sell him and played to his true potential to engineer a move back to spain. he had a good passing range and that is about it he never scored, couldn’t go round a player couldn’t tackle, relied heavily on masch to do the donkey work and had fuck all skill. get off his dick he played we’ll for himself not the team he’s even come out and said he’d made his mind up when benitez tried to sell him that he was leaving this summer so he obviously had the potential to play well but couldn’t be arsed and i think we’re better off without them sort of players
i do agree we could have spent more wisely during the summer i think we should have got at least van der vaart or sneijder in the alonso deal. and i agree benitez can be frustrating and is also overrated but he has done as well as can be expected we are making progress in the league.
aquilani will be a good buy and selling masch based on his current form and the fact he looks like he wants to leave won’t be such a bad idea any way, not if we can get some sort of toure and henry swap going on.
anonymous - October 6th, 2009 at 9:22 am
Does Benitez know how to develop players? All he does is buy.
jimmyk - October 6th, 2009 at 9:28 am
was xabi alonso world class when we bought him? was torres world class when we bought him? was gerrard world class before benitez took over??
you cant say lucas wont be world class, he is a very different player to gerrard, lampard, fab…fine he is nowhere near yet but the improvement he has made is not a gradual incline, it is a huge leap…lets see what happens next year….(im not saying he will be world class, but dont write him off because he doesnt do 10 step overs, and bang in 30 yard screamers)
anonymous - October 6th, 2009 at 9:40 am
lucas may not be world class but for a fourth choice central midfielder who is still young he’s damn good and for all you doubters take essien, lampard, fabregas even barry out of a top side and your gonna struggle i’d personally blame gerrard mascherano and carragher for our poor preformances this season, every player has bad days, liverpool is a team so stop using lucas as a scapegoat if we had the money to have a 30million fourth choice world class central midfielder to sit on the bench i wouldn’t him.
lfc till i die, ynwa…………
saif - October 6th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
yo baggins 09 one thing i have to disagree with you is that alonso did score some goals eg against newcastle fromthe halfway line remember that
saif - October 6th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
yeah one thing would lucas be 4th choice if spearing and co were used more
anonymous - October 7th, 2009 at 3:12 am
benitez needs to have faith in babel and give him some games. if babel leaves and gets regular football he will develope into a consistant performer. Gerrad needs to play in the midfield.
Retryboy - October 11th, 2009 at 3:11 am
Babel has performed every time he has been given a shot on the right wing. Which has only started this season took rafa 2 years to realise that he isn’t a left winger he should be starting games there way he has looked so far but kuyt is an automatic choice on the right and shouldn’t be he is a striker only reason he is automatic choice is for his defensive work rate shouldn’t a right winger’s main job be attacking?
