So James may be sticking around at Portsmouth but, according to reports whose basis in reality may be about as sound as an LSD-popping unicorn, Paul Hart won’t – because new owner Ali al-Faraj wants a manager with a higher profile and has his eyes said on none other than Rafael Benítez! Yes, the Spaniard who bought Jan Kromkamp, Josemi and Bolo Zenden, and replaced Xabi Alonso with and an Italian urban legend, is exactly the man you’d want in charge of an £80m transfer kitty. (Guardian)
This made me laugh when I first read it. Then it made me think long and hard. Then It made me laugh again. You can’t blame the Fratton Park side’s new owners for setting high standards but any approach is doomed to failure.
Paul Hart won’t last much longer even though he is probably the best man for the job, the Saudi owners are looking for a high profile manager to lead Pompey. Expect Sven Goran Ericsson to leave Notts County within a matter of days.

Nonsense

Aye. Kromkamp, Josemi and Zenden represent a huge combined outlay £2m. There wasn’t that much Rafa or anyone else could have done to keep Alonso and it’s very poor journalism to brand Aquilani a flop before he has kicked a ball for Liverpool. (Guardian)

It’s not journalism – no thought, no basis in fact just bollocks.

ALL DIE HARD FANS SHOULD PRAY NIGHT AND DAY FOR THE DEPARTURE OF MR RAFA.THE SOONER HE DEPARTS THE MORE BENEFITS FOR THE CLUB.
THE EUROPEAN WIN WAS REALLY A FLUKE.

Easy to point out Kromkamp etc!! It’s ike looking at Fergie and saying “The same guy that signed Kleberson, Dejmba Djemba and Forlan, and Sold The best player in the world and brought in “Michael (sicknote) Owen”. Gets to me why when Rafa’s involved people forget Pepe Reina (best GK in the Prem), Mascherano(Argentina captain), Alonso (20mil profit), Torres(….), Skrtel, Agger, Benayoun etc. Not many mangers could create title challengers out of a squad which contained Smicer, Baros, Traore, Biscan etc!!!Since he’s been in charge were less out of pocket than Tottenham yet nobody ever labels them unachievers??Give the guy a break!!!! Liverpool FC is not owned by mega rich owners it is owned by a couple of American businessmen, this means LFC can NOT compete financially with most other clubs in the Premiership. Yet despite this LFC remains in the top four, competes in Europe’s elite competition and has the biggest fans base in the world. I am sure Benitez as manager has had a small hand to play in that success and without him LFC would be in mid table & out of Europe.
Tell me a Top manager who would come to LFC with less than a £20 mill transfer kitty to spend and owners who slag you off and try to replace you behind your back?

I just love Rafa and see no reason for him to move on at this point! Wish some fans would though.
isaac hunt - October 7th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
the players that they mention were bought for nothing.
the players that he has actually paid over 15 million for are top class. (johnson, torres, alonso and hopefully aquilani.) why are they having a go at aquilani for?!?!? he hasnt played yet!
you decide if rafa is good at buying players
isaac hunt - October 7th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
oh i forgot to mention reina, agger, kuyt, mascherano and theres probably one more.

Well said guys. I’m in your corner. It seems that Benitez is always in a lose, lose situation and I really cannot understand why he gets so much stick. As for the story regarding Portsmouth. Yeah, course they want Benitez, who wouldn’t but therer is not a chance on this earth that he would go there. His next move is Real Madrid in my opinion but not until he has succeeded at Liverpool andhe will succeed.

Rafa is not going anywhere and i bet all you haters are not even fans of LFC. STAY OFF our blog.

HAHA yeah ok, like this has even an ounce of realism, tell ya what lets throw in Gerrard and Torres shall we, maybe they’ll get Messi and Ronaldo aswell…As if Portsmouth stand any chance. This article seriously is pluggin new depths of mental retardation, Im actually quite impressed that COS has allowed you to submit articles, not as impressed as i am that you learned to type.
Agree with above, Rafa’s next move is Real, but not for a few years yet.

He’s had enough time and enough money to bring the title to Anfield. He is not a top class manager’s rear end. the defense was strong, then the attack was lacking. Now the attack is strong and the defense sucks. He is running out of excuses, blaming everyone besides himself. No other manager would have had the patients that he has with Lucas(who quit frankly is NOT a real footballer). All at the expense of the team.

Had he had enough money then I’m sure that there would be a few more World class players at the club than there currently is.
The defense is the same defense as last season with the addition aof a World class right back, and it was as tight as a ducks rear end. Has Benitez told those same players to make more mistakes this season?
Most pèople on here seem to think that the attack, as you put it is limited.
I would also imagine that any manager would stick buy a player that he’d signed and to be fair, Lucas is improving and to say that he is not a real footballer is naive on your part. Who would you suggest play in his position?. Also,; When has Benitez blamed anyone for anything?
anonymous - October 7th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
its not rafa its the tight stngy owners
rafa nows wot he is doin
hes been wanting to bring villa silva for a long time
i think buyin torres was a fluke
cant believe it
we won at old trafford with no alonso he was injured

This is rubbish…

if he cant put out a team that beats sunderland ( who would love the money fat benny has had) then hes gone for sure. or maybe hooger booger boy will come running to screaming waiters’ aid with a towel to wipe up the spittle. i’m a 40 year fan whos’ seen better days at anfield and is sick of the constant shite big benny drops all over us. and mate, plenty of managers would love to have the chances hes had, infact i do believe king kenny is setting up a move as we bleat.

He has reached 200 wins much faster than Ferguson.Fergie came to United in 86 and won his first league title in 1992/93 season 6 to 7 years later.Benitez came in 2005 and four years later people are calling for his head.Although we did not win the league we are improving every year.Last season we came pretty close and it took United a record 90 points to win it.In his first season he won Champions league everybody that calls it a fluke is damn stupid and ignorant.
United winning in stolen injury time now that is a fluke. You cannot come from 3 goals behind and win and call it a fluke.
Another Point i would like to make is that Chelsea took 50 years to win the title again and have never won the Champions league probably never will it.What is so ironic is that everybody seems to forget these points i made.
So before you try to sack a manager that has did everything in his power to try and better the team.think a little out of an ignorants space.Do you really think a Ferguson or Morinho would of done a better job with the yanks depriving them of funds and support? Didn’t think so case closed.Oh and the dumb fool that said get Klinsman grow up and get real.
Klinsman cannot even win anything with a world all star team.
anonymous - October 8th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
he won the Cl in his first season, FA cup in his second and later runners-up in CL (even though they were better than AC Milan), came so-so close to winning the league last season, vastly improved the youth setup, with the players he inherited, a club who were in shambles and yet people criticize him. i think the majority of fans and pundits who criticize him are infact secret admirers of manu and their arrogant red-nose drunk freguson. give him $100 M and he will win the league for sure. the only thing i would criticize him for is, we haven’t seen any young players from the academy except INSUA.

Hoogleboy don’t get me wrong don’t want rafa out but if we haven’t got 3 good enough central midfielders why play 3 a tactical genius doesn’t play the same formation every game lucas is shit and rafa is far from perfect he is still the right man for the job and i have faith in him but the defensive frailties are down to the reliance on the full backs getting forward to create something leaving us short at the back while we carry a passenger in lucas in every game who could play in his position? Stevie g with a 2nd striker or benayoun playing off torres! Or if thats too obvious and attacking for mr negative then spearing deserves a chance. Players like benayoun have earned a run in the team babel has looked really good every time he has been played on the right yet never starts lucas has had a ridiculous amount of chances and finally produced 2 good games wow he’s not even good enough to be a squad player cos we have better and i hope when aquilani is fit we never see him in a liverpool shirt again we have better players who deserve their shot and if only for the balance of the team
