Ready for such a big jump?
Keisuke Honda’s agent has admitted the player would be interested in a move to the Premier League.
The talented midfielder has been in scintillating form for Eredivisie newcomers VVV Venlo, notching seven goals in only nine appearances this term.
A host of clubs including Liverpool, Everton, Ajax and PSV Eindhoven are believed to be keeping tabs on Honda with Venlo facing a fight to keep hold of their prize asset.
The 23-year-old’s agent, Kees Ploegsma, has admitted a number of clubs are chasing the attacking midfielder and that the player would be keen on a switch to England.
“There are a lot of clubs following him, but there is nothing concrete at the moment,” Ploegsma told skysports.com.
“I don’t know anything about Liverpool and Everton and we will wait and see what happens in January.
“Of course Keisuke would be interested in playing in England. England is a very good country for playing football.
“If a club makes an offer and Keisuke likes that club something could happen, but we will wait and see.” (Sky Sports)
I have to say I am not sure about the wisdom of pursuing this Japanese midfielder. He has had a good season thus far in the Dutch top tier after helping his Venlo side to promotion last term, but is he really ready for such a big jump from the distinctly average Eredivisie to the top end of the Premier League, I think not.
We could obviously do with some more attacking flair in our midfield but there are far more better suited players we could be targeting and whilst Rafa has apparently shown interest in Keisuke Honda, I would be surprised if a solid bid came out of it.
