England Squad for 2010 World Cup Finals: You Decide!
by Mr Neutral on October 15th, 2009 190 words | 67 commentsWho will make that plane? (I.e who should be in the squad for the World Cup Finals as opposed to who will construct the airplane itself.)

With England firmly through to the World Cup Finals next summer we can look forward to long balmy nights in and outside pubs/bars enjoying the festivities and also having a team to support, hopefully Ireland will also make it through the play-offs as well.
Now it is your chance to be the boss, or at least impersonate him, by selecting the 23 man squad you think should be taken to South Africa. To help you make your decision, as well as to give you a chance to simply cut and paste players into the spaces provided, here are a list of all those who have been selected for squads in recent months.

Our Keepers are shite and no decent partnet for Rooney.
i`d like to see Agbonlahor in as a wild card
harsh on Beckham, in midfield, but hargreaves required for cover for Barry
i think a fit Jagilka provides cover across the back 4, and Lescott for LB
A fit Joe Cole should complete a cracking midfield quartet

those 2 have been our best 2 players in qualifying and u drop one and play the other out of position?

other player that i think could/should get in
Joleon Lescott-good player but never appealed to me perhaps if wes brown is not fit
Ashley Young-good player but dont think reached full potential yet perhaps if hargareaves is injured move milner to centre and young is in
Shaun Wright-Philips-godd skills but does not appeal to me and i think he can be bullied easily same situation as young
Matt Derbyshire-this one will surprise people but if he does well in the greek league and champions league there is no reason why he cant make a good contribution to the team if his record last season at olmpyacios is anything to go by (5 in 10 games) can also make a strong partnership with rooney as he is a talisman number 9 stricker and ronney is a second stricker that plays tucked in behind a number 9 and can last while this partnership as they are the same age. probably wont make it into this world cup squad as he has not helped with campaign at all.

i think england are spolied for choice in the goalkeeping area,
GREEN,KIRKLAND,JAMES,ROBINSONFOSTER…..
these are some of the best premierleague goalkeepers its all about finding which one can handle international games and has the ability also but as soon as you do find your best one your going to be hard to beat
Retryboy - October 16th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
Think green has booked his place and the battle is on between the other four. Would rather not see us relying on david james in big games going on his past history for big game errors. If robinson can get back to the form that made him number 1 he has a chance feel that kirkland and foster can be the best out of the bunch hoping they make the big strides needed this season all an interesting sub plot in the epl always rated kirkland never wanted us to sell him but with reina in the sticks he would never have got a look in and now his injury worries are finally behind him hope he gets a chance.

Misunderstood the thing thought it was cappelos final squad, it was who has played recently. He’ll still probally make it though
anonymous - December 7th, 2009 at 7:16 am
Have no idea why quite a number of you have put Wes Brown in the squad. Put James Milner in the squad as a utility player and he can cover right back if Glen Johnson is injured.

i thinks michael owen should be there….look at the hatrick he scored against german champions and that too away from home….http://lets-kickoff.blogspot.com/2009/12/wolfsburg-vs-man-utd-live-stream.html

I would like to see Owen in the squad as a player.Of course, it will be disasterous if we want to see him in starting line up evertime. Undoubtly, he will be the miracle touch if England needs it!

9.matthew upson
10.lescott
11.glen johnson( because i dont know any other good right backs, probably because i dont know many)

i would like to see bent here aswell because he always scores goals and is a great player(just look at last season for spurs he was a sub for basically all his games and he was still top scorer)
this would be my preferred england world cup squad

See how the rest of the season goes but if the world cup was next week this is the team I would take. Never really liked Crouch but he’s come good at Spurs. Bent has always scored goals so him and Defoe would be brilliant players to have coming off the bench. He should take young players like Milner (future England captain in my opinion) and Agbonglahor to give them experience for future tournaments. In goal, Robinson has the most international experience so I would make him no. 1.
Starting Line-up:
GK – Robinson
CB – Terry
CB – Ferdinand
RB – Johnson
LB – A. Cole
CM – Gerrard
CM – Barry
RM – Lennon
LM – J. Cole
ST – Rooney

Most people would put Lampard in there but Barry has been most consistent England performer and would suit Gerrard’s game more, he needs someone to just sit and link every thing together and Barry or Hargreaves will do that. J. Cole can turn a game around at any moment so that is why he’s in there. Lennon’s pace is a huge threat and he is more consistent than Walcott. This is the best team we have had in decades and I believe we have a really good chance if everyone performs. It’s up to you now Fabio. Don’t let us down.

All Goal keepers mentioned Suck Big Time… England’s gonna hav a tough time unless Capello unearths a new talent or plays a 5 man sturdy defence….
n yeah… I totally agree wit retryboy’s comments above…
Wes Brown’s pure SHIT… if he makes it to even t reserves then I wud say Capello’s either mad or he’s biddin to succeed Fergie @ manu sometime in near future…
anonymous - January 25th, 2010 at 5:14 pm
Lookin at t list england suck even in t strikers department…
except for rooney who can guarantee goals to u every game (Albeit he’s a shit face) thers no1 who’s a class striker… like wat Brazil or spain hav…
Its just t midfleid tat looks majestic… n t defence to some extent looks ok…
Hope capello can use his football knowledge n strike t right kinda chemistry to put forward a squad tat albeit wont be world class but wud still be able to get t job done…

Im a gunner but still i suggest Dont take walcott…
He’s just a waste of speed… If he plays 1 game he’ll remain injured for t next 5… so he’s gonna be just a waste of tkt @ south africa…
Maybe he shud consider switchin to runnin instead of playin football… cuz he sucks wen it comes to scorin, passin or crossin balls…

Anon 7.09 would rather have Gerrard in his best position not playing defensively Lampard’s never really done it for england. On the other hand Joe cole always performs amazingly for england. Lennon and milner both had great seasons hard choice went for pace was 50/50 though
