Werder Bremen’s sought-after midfielder Mesut Ozil has revealed it would be his dream to one day join Barcelona.
The 20-year-old Germany international’s comments are likely to draw the attention of the Catalan club with a number of high-profile European teams reportedly interested in securing his services.
Ozil has apparently been the target of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich while Manchester rivals United and City are also believed to have been tracking the player.
“I have been a fan of Barcelona ever since I was a little boy,” he told Bild. “I can’t describe what it is, but the team just fascinates me. They have always had world-class players such as Rivaldo and [Luis] Figo in their team.”
Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs admitted earlier this week the club were unlikely to keep hold of their young playmaker with negotiations over a new five-year deal having reportedly stalled in recent weeks.
Those negotiations are set to resume again in the new year, but should Bremen fail to strike a deal Ozil could be on his way out of the club as early as next summer.
“We want to keep a player like Mesut,” Allofs told Bild. “The past has shown that we do not always hold on to players but we hope it will be different.” (ESPN)
Having just turned 21 and become a regular part of the German international set up Mesut Ozil is probably now thinking how he can cement his place in the squad for the upcoming World Cup whilst also thinking of his long term future.
The attacking midfielder has impressed at Werder Bremen since making the move from Bundesliga rivals Schalke and his performances this term have brought him to the attention of Europe’s big brass and Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be a big fan and appears to be looking for some more creative talent in his midfield with an eye to the future.
£13m rated Ozil is a talented prospect who has found of adding scoring crucial goals to his other abilities as a forward thinking central midfielder. Whilst he may well have stated that Barcelona is his dream club of choice, he would surely still be thrilled that the Old Trafford outfit are monitoring his progress.

Calvo…
Utd need these types of players to lighten the creative load thats placed on players like giggs and scholes.
However I would also say that Utd should look to players like Hazard aswell.

Apparently Ozil called Ferguson a “F%ck£ng Tw@t with a S(r*t”m face who F&cks all his Under 18 team with a Str@pon as he is impotent” so doubt this move will happen.

United need someone to offload the burden on Giggs. He is the only one who can create anything in the entire Man U midfield.
