The World Class Goal Machine Liverpool Should Sign: Adriano
by YNWA on October 15th, 2009 311 words | 77 commentsWhy Not?
Portsmouth Vs Liverpool Tickets Still Available!
See below details about a potential move for Inter Milan striker to Tottenham and then consider whether he wouldn’t be more attracted to a move to Anfield instead.
Tottenham could sign Brazilian striker Adriano for free in the January transfer window, the 27 year-old, who is in the middle of a one-year contract with Brazilian club Flamengo, is keen for a return to Europe.
Adriano is said to have a clause in his contract which will allow him to leave for nothing in January if a European club come in for him.Tottenham offer Jermaine Jenas to Inter Milan for Adriano
That is sure to alert Spurs manager Harry Redknapp, who first signalled his interest in the former Inter Milan player last summer.
Adriano is desperate to secure a World Cup squad place and has indentified a move back to Europe as key to achieving his ambition. (Telegraph)
So there you have it, I know Liverpool are not mentioned in the article, it is merely my contention that if this news is indeed correct, and the Telegraph isn’t The Scum after, then we should be looking at Adriano as a potential January addition.
The 27 year old Brazilian has indeed seen better days but he is hardly over the hill and on his day he is a feared predator. He has a point to prove and we could do with another attacking option in our armoury and also, he wouldn’t cost a penny!
This is a player who has been there and done it. He has experience and the kind of physique that could deal with the rough and tumble of the Premier League. What would Rafa have to lose in considering such a deal?
In theory he could work well alongside El Nino, his attributes would work well alongside what Fernando Torres brings to the team, or he could simply as cover.

I see no reason we shouldn’t consider a move for Adriano. If he is free then where’s the harm. He needs to prove himself to get back in the Brazil squad, so why not offer him a 6 month contract.
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
Face!
Retryboy - October 15th, 2009 at 4:55 pm
So as well as linking us with every striker we send a scout to watch we now have you as a scout bring nemeth back we don’t need to spend in that area when he can fill the gap
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
SIGN HIM!!!!!!!!!
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 5:10 pm
I agree we should get Nemeth back, but Adriano is a hugely experienced player and a useful player to have in the squad, and he’s free!
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
have any of you actually seen adriano play recently?
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
YES ! Imagine the power of gerrards right foot and in the smaller games the power of adrianos left foot just behind torres ! With strikers like Nemeth,Adriano,Babel and Torres, What else could we ask for really ? He could often play as a winger too with his class crosses, torres would be heading home dozens. Silva,Hamsik,Young,Adriano(55M) IN, Dossena,Lucas,Voronin,Riera(30M) OUT !!!!!!!!
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 5:26 pm
If we are getting him for free
than go for it
but i think its better if we invest in Goran Pandev

You’ve just got rid of our reserves. What good will that do, how do we sell them and to what end? Me thinks you play too much football manager.
RE: Adriano – fat loser with a bad attitude.
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
Hahaha qualty retard posting above “Jose Special one in” seriously? do you remember when he was at Chelsea, exactly how much cash did he blow? it was like £100 mill first year. What use is he likely to be to us when we struggle to raise 50p for Benitez to spend. Seriously if you think mourinho is the option for LFC you must be inbred, there is no alternative. He would bankrupt us in days.
If you suggest mourinho again, i’ll find you late one night and get you. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
THE BIG I AM - October 15th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
If hes free and his wage isnt daft why not, hes beter than n’gog so he can warm the bench and you never know he might be ellish. But were the leagues top goalscorers so far i think and were doing pretty average wich means the problems at the back half of the pitch. And anyway i want to see a left winger before a nother striker
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 5:57 pm
“Jose Special one in”
Rafa has done all he can do… he doesnt have a clue !
Im supprised he hasnt put torres in goal !
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
he’s an ok player. he can score goals like torres, powerful shots like gerrard.
Ryan Babel - October 15th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
Years Club Apps† (Gls)†
2000–2001 Flamengo 19 (7)
2001–2009 internazionale 123 (48)
2002 ? Fiorentina (loan) 15 (6)
2002–2004 ? Parma (co-ownership) 36 (22)
2008 ? São Paulo (loan) 0 (0)
2009– Flamengo 22 (15)
so wherever hes played hes always scored lots of goals, so on a free hed be a good option to have and hes only 27 so still gt a couple of years and hes got the strength and pace to make it in the prem, its just his attitude thats the problem but Rafa could sort that out. so would be good only if it was free, otherwise it would probably be better to invest in pandev.
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
not in a dream jose will manage liver.. but if will, liver got chance to win trof… fu8ck RAFA kiss his as@ out he totally Suck. RAFA wont bring any MF Trof…
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
As we all keep saying, Rafa needs to get rid of most of the average players at the club and replace them with young class ,hungry talented players with the potential of being world class players in the future.
Lucas Leiva out, Michael Johnson of Manchester City in
Dossena out, Taiwo of Marseille in
Albert Riera out, Diego Capel or Royston Drenthe in
Degan out, Rafinha of Schalke in
Voronin out, Lukas Podolski of Cologne in
We need an out and out right winger with pace, skill, creativity and flair : Jesus Navas of sevile or Aaron Lennon of Tottenham
And an experienced Creative Attacking Centre mid: Riquelme of Boca Juniors, Diego of Juventus, Van der vaart of Real Madrid or Juninho of lyon.
...samlfc.... - October 15th, 2009 at 7:36 pm
Don’t see why not as he is going to be free he is 27 so still youngish an can give good experience However! as In Rafa We Trust correctly claimed, he has a really bad attitude and i don’t usually Like players wth abd attitudes so i don’t know. It wouldn’t bother me if we get him but it wouldnt bother me if we don’t.

“Jose Special one in”
he is the guy who can take the club forward
RaNE - October 15th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
NEMETH, NGOG, BABEL…..
do these players mean nothing and have no chance of playing
...samlfc.... - October 15th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
Nemeth should come back, Ngog needs more time and Babel should have a chance playing along side Torres
Now that i tihnk of it properly with Thanks to RaNE maybe we don’t need him after all! but like i said before it wouldn’t be bad for us to have him when Torres gets injured or something
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
I think its time for Jose, the special one is the guy who is a proven winner
we need winners no more maybe men
lets start from the top
Retryboy - October 15th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Players run down their contracts for the big pay day 100k a week plus equals 5 million a year when we have nemeth and ngog on the way up with a great attitude babel is getting opportunities in his proper positions now and looks great has all the attributes think he deserves his chance on the right challenging kuyt has the pace and skills to beat players and can put in quality crosses and to hit a team on the break can’t see many better around. We have enough options up front just got to trust youth and give the players the chance.
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
I would like to see what Benitez can do with a big budget that we may get from Prince Faiselbut if he doesn’t get the premier league then it is good bye Rafa and hello either Mourinho, Martin O’Neill or Maybe Hiddink.
Retryboy - October 15th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
Can’t understand the calls for mourinho he has never talked about liverpool with any respect rafa has shown commitment to a long term project much like Wenger and ferguson thats got to count for something
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
I think anfield needs mourinho he is the man
Good for marketing
Backs his player
Plays good formations
A winner
Time has come for a change at anfield !
Time for the team to be special again
Bring on the special one !
anonymous - October 15th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
RAFA out he is a good man but we need a special man
mourinho time
RaNE - October 15th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
i dont get why some of you are saying rafa out?
hes changed are youth system for the better and currently some are starting to break through, insua who we have seen, ayala, nemeth, ngog, spearing and there is alot more who he is adding to our youth as well as getting homegrown players.
look who he has brought to anfield (on a small budget)
torres, alonso, reina, riera, benny, babel, kuyt and theres alot more hes done well and as retryboy said hes making it more of a future like wenger did like fergie did and soon our tem will be good,
If rafa does get a bigger budget thats ood but he dosent deserved to get sacked for it he should keep on doin what he is doin youth and players we need in places we lack

Good Evening RaNE,…samlfc…. Retryboy, and THE BIG I AM ….. how,s things? Bet you can’t wait for the weekend? ……
Here we go again it that time nof the season were we are going to be linked withy every tom, dick and Barry, No…. Wait…. he went to Man City …… but you all know what i mean

Rafa is mentally fucked when it comes to transfers!
Retryboy - October 16th, 2009 at 12:39 am
Evening mate we weren’t even linked with adriano and we still have a story out of it. Bit nervous about the injury front for the weekend gerrard and torres doubtful would like to see agger start but really worrying in central midfield as massa and lucas won’t even be making it back till tomorrow.
anonymous - October 16th, 2009 at 1:40 am
rafa shuld never hav sent nemeth out on loan but anyway….better signing than klose 4 years younger than klose, 12 million pounds cheaper than klose why not will be like owen signing for united but will probably bring better results…and rafa stil has room to go and buy some players carlton cole and james milner
anonymous - October 16th, 2009 at 9:37 am
rafa ain’t goin nowhere so deal with it, you sad 12 year old football manager playing little f&cks………………..mourinho sucks ass, rafa is god, can’t wait to see aquilaini play. ynwa

Scouse Magic - October 16th, 2009 at 11:23 am
Nemeth hasn’t had a chance yet, but i would love to see Adriano at Liverpool even though he has a bad boy reputation. Bringing him in would mean we could play 4-4-2 and put Gerrard back to Centre Mid where he’s most effective. As Nemeth is on a season’s long loan it would be beneficial to bring him in.
anonymous - October 16th, 2009 at 11:47 am
Anyone actually kept tabs on how Nemeth is doing out in greece? I’m sorry for the anonymous post, 1st timer.
Retryboy - October 16th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
Welcome anon nemeth has bagged 2 goals in 4 appearances for athens as well as a couple of very impressive assists link up play that torres would love to see. He scored 2 goals for hungary under 20’s recently and has scooped mvp in the greek league award one week and another man of the match performance having only come on after half an hour. Disappointed to learn that it is a season long loan after his injury problems last season could understand a 3 or 6 month loan to get him match fit but think rafa has made a mistake there. Obviously voronin looked good in the german league and rafa thought he was good enough back up but with how little he has been used he must have realised now what fans knew anyway he should have bitten hertha’s hand off when they were offering 5 million for him!
anonymous - October 16th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
get him pls and pandev too
Donavan Ried - October 16th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
Afternoon Retryboy …….
Retryboy – October 16th, 2009 at 1:13 pm …….. Not disagreeing with you by all means, just pointing out athing or two that poeple might not of considered about Voronins time at Hertha. (a) was he playing as the main striker …… (b) was he the penalty/ freekick taker ? ……. For the 42 goals that Ronbaldo score for Man Utd two seasons back how many came from penalties and freekicks …. This can make a player look better on paper than he really is …..
Without adoubt Rafa should as you put it ” bitten hertha’s hand off when they were offering 5 million for him!”……
...samlfc.... - October 16th, 2009 at 2:12 pm

Nemeth is one of a few players where i can’t tell what to do with him? I want him at Liverpool but i don’t know whether to take him back yet or wait awhile to give him more confidence……what do my fellow Liverpool fans think? shall we tae him back or leave him in the Greek league for alittle longer?
Retryboy - October 16th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
Afternoon samlfc, donovan and everyone news from the weekend is torres and gerrard are both out. Know who i would rather have available to take torres place and that would be nemeth. I hope personally babel gets a shot up front or ngog up front with kuyt and babel on the right. Centre midfield is going to be a big problem too no gerrard, aquilani weeks away, lucas and massa only arrived back from international duty today shame we get agger back finally and lose torres and gerrard!
RaNE - October 16th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
i would let him finish his time in greece BUT have a 4 – 4 – 2 formation gerrard in midfield with ngog or babel up front give them more playing time
...samlfc.... - October 16th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Thanks for the update Retryboy and lets think of this as a blessing in disguice this should raise everyone’s game to another level but then again we lost 2 of the 4 liverpool stars (other 2 are Reina an Carrager) so it will be tricky
However leaving them out of this game will get them fit for the main test in a weeks time against Man utd!
anonymous - October 16th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
huh?jose mourinho???he’s gonna give the squad a complete change…….maybe torres gonna even play for AC Milan
anonymous - October 16th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
Hiddink is a better choice than mourinho….i dun like mourinho lol…cos of his face
Scouse Magic - October 16th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Anybody that wants that Portugeezer at Anfield must seriously be deluded the man hates LFC and exactly what did he do for the second team in Fulham. He spent something like £250M net spend and won 3 trophies. Rafa has won 3 trophies and hasn’t spent anywhere near that he has also completely rejuvenated the youth set-up although not yet complete. I do think he is living on borrowed time but I’d give him til the end of the season at least.
Donavan Ried - October 16th, 2009 at 5:18 pm
…samlfc…. – October 16th, 2009 at 2:12 pm …… I’m with RaNE on this one. Let Nemeth compelet his loan spell in Greece. At least he is getting regular first team football ……..
Scouse Magic – October 16th, 2009 at 3:42 pm …….. sorry for once i have to disagree with you. Mourinho is a great manager. he knows how to put a team together, and how to win games and motivate the players around him. I for one would welcome such a manager at Liverpool. Remember what he did with Porto……
...samlfc.... - October 16th, 2009 at 5:32 pm
Donavan Ried – October 16th, 2009 at 5:18 pm
Yeah i understand now that nemeth should continue his loan in Greece.
Mourinho would be a great manager with us however Rafa is in charge atm so theres no point in talking about Mourinho
Retryboy - October 16th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
With my confidence growing in ngog and rafa realising babel is better as a striker or on the right do feel we have enough cover if torres misses games and nemeth will be better served continuing his development at athens pressures on rafa but think he will come through it and we will still have a good season.
Donavan Ried - October 16th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
- October 16th, 2009 at 5:32 pm ….. “Mourinho would be a great manager with us however Rafa is in charge atm so theres no point in talking about Mourinho” ……
Yeah think undertstand what you are saying ………. In the past i have posted here that i dislike Rafa. With hindsight maybe those words were too strong…….. It is not him that i dislike, but more his negativity at times…….The way that he sometimes set up the team, and his reluctance to change things until the65th minute or so……. I have no problem with you …samlfc….as you can see these fualts but still choose to back him. …………Where my problems lie is with those supporters that can’t see these fualts and think that if you do not blindly back Rafa that your not a true supporter……. My only real problem with Rafa is that he doen’t seem to learn from past mistakes

Donavan Ried – October 16th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Donavan Ried again i respect your opinion and I also don’t have anything against you as its only this type of topic where we can disagree on…However i’m not properlly Backing him as I can’t stand his defensive tactics but because he is the Liverpool Boss and i don’t tend to say bad stuff to someone who manages Liverpool UNLESS things are going so badly then i would have a rant or something about him I only say what i think he should do and not become one of those People who go “Rafa should get the sack” and not back it up.But don’t get me wrong i do sometimes get really pissed of with what he does and leaving substitutes till the 75th minute or doing random Rants for no reason which is Two of many problems.
So you may think that i back him when infact i do but i also don’t…….but like i said i respect your opinion and so i appreciate that and i can definately see where your coming from about Rafa and also about me seeng his faults but hopefully by now you know that If i say something good or bad i will almost definately back it up with something and if i’m wrong then i’ll admit that i’m wrong as you’ve seen in other posts…..hopefully!
Sorry if its complicated and everything i tried to make it as simple as possible!
Anonymous - October 17th, 2009 at 9:20 am
like donovan and retryboy i dislike rafa’s negativity but it’s not gonna change i did have hope that when he bought aquilani he was gonna play a more attacking 4-1-4-1 with gerrard and aquilani both playing attaking mid but he’ll probably try to turn one of the most promising young attacking mid in italian (now english) football into a defensive mid to fit his formation of choice and then when aquilani is playing poorly because he’s out of position the ‘i hate lucas and in rafa we trust crew’ will have someone else to turn there attentions too ignoring the fact that its rafa’s negativity and poor decision making that’s at fault
i do think we should get adriano i know what every one is saying about giving the young lads a chance which i do agree with but we still need another world class striker, torres and gerrard are injured and its not gonna be the last time this season and if we’re still hoping for silverware we need another player who can deal with the sort of pressure contending for a title/trophy can throw at you.
put it another way if it was the champions league final torres and gerrard injured and we’re drawing 2-2 with the scum 92nd min and we get a penalty who would you rather step up to take it n’gog or adriano?
we’d be better getting him for free and another midfielder to help cover the void left by gerrard when injured. obviously aquilani will take a more attacking roll so we need someone to help masch or lucas i say bring momo back on loan till end of season or poulson there both down the pecking order at juve now melo’s there or flamini maybe worth a shout
anonymous - October 17th, 2009 at 9:42 am
Mourinho is shit! He is Sir Alex’s gay partner. Won’t want that in liverpool.
anonymous - October 17th, 2009 at 9:54 am
im all for giving youth a chance and think they will all develope in to good player but lets say it was the champions league final 92nd minute and we’re drawing with scumchester utd and we get a penalty gerrard and torres are injured who would you rather have step up to take the penno n’gog or adriano?
i’d go with adriano sorry but if we’ve got a world class striker out injured we need a world class striker to take his place. give n’gog and the rest all the carling, fa cup games or if we’re winning 2-0 at half time take torres off and give them a run but we can’t risk pinning our season on there shoulders the pressure would kill them.
i’d get adriano and see if we can get sissoko or poulson on loan till the end of the season because its not gonna be the last time gerrard (or torres) gets injured and we’ve got aquilani who can play the attacking role we need someone who can help out masch and lucas i think flamini would be worth a shout too. we’ve got enough cover for the wings gerrard and torres are the one’s we need cover for

baggins09 - October 17th, 2009 at 10:08 am
basically what my post that has now been deleted twice said was that i am all for youth but would rather have adriano take a penalty in the dying minutes of a champions league final than n’gog
and we need cover for gerrard aquilani will asume a more attacking role when gerrads injured but we need help for masch and lucas i think we should get either sissoko/poulson or flamini on loan till end of season

Not even the oil rich Middle East league wants Adriano! Why would Liverpool need him?
Retryboy - October 17th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
Can’t see any top striker waiting on the bench to fill in when torres is injured then back out of the side when he is fit though. If rafa would play 2 strikers would still be wanting nemeth back but have given up on rafa playing 2. Agree with anon at 9.20 it seemed that with the signing of aquilani a more positive formation was coming more like 4-4-1-1 with aquilani or gerrard behind torres. If that was his plan though benayoun would have been playing in the hole a role that is ideal for him instead it has become even more defensive the more blinkered rafa supporters out there point to the goals scored but against hull when massa was injured and he played 4-4-1-1 we scored 6 of those.

Team news vs Sunderland Gk-reina RB-johnson LB-aurelio CB-carragher CB-skrtel CB-agger CM-mascherano CM-lucas LM-benayoun RM-kuyt CF-babel
Is the only way i can see this team lining up 5 defenders 2 defensive centre midfielders 3 attacking players of which even kuyt is in just as much for his work rate as attacking prowess benitez seems to be finding new ways of being even more defensive.
Retryboy - October 17th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Mascherano has just dropped out spearing has come in good to see spearing getting his chance and babel getting a shot up front and agger returning to try and stay positive be hard for babel to make an impression though with only benayoun and kuyt with any creativity in midfield
...samlfc.... - October 17th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
This might be one tough game but then again it can be one good game for players to show their worth now is the perfect chance to change formation and have Babel or N’gog or even both playing in striker role and this will prove t be a massive game for Jay spearing which could be a higlight of his career so far or the biggest nightmare of his career so far!
My prediction: 2-1 Liverpool with Ngog scoring two and Jones scoring for sunderland……It will be a close game but i think we’ll edge it
