Anyone who has read my previous articles will know that I do not, at least not very often, lay into any member of the Gunners squad. Not even when all and sundry were bashing Bendtner and Eboue, but I do feel that on this occasion I must say something.
Mikael Silvestre’s arrival at the Emirates actually appeared to be a fairly sound idea in theory but in practice has been a disaster that we would do well to lessen as soon as possible by offloading the former Man United man at the first sign of any interest.
He has come out today in some reports and stated that he will categorically refuse a move to any of the French sides who are supposedly tracking the 32 year old defender which is a shame as I would gladly have lent him the Tube fair to Waterloo so that he could catch the Eurostar.
Now I am not saying that at some point in his playing career he wasn’t a pretty decent player, but what I am saying is that he is not a good footballer at this moment in time and hasn’t been good ever since we offered him a contract.
Statistics don’t lie and when read in relation to Mikael they are grim reading. In the 14 Premier League matches we have had to call upon his services we have conceded, wait for it, 24 goals. That is as opposed to the other 24 Premier League matches where he didn’t play, when we conceded just 13 goals! Incredible I think you would agree. Also note that last season we lost 6 top tier games out of 38, and in the 14 games Silvestre played, we lost 4. I rest my case. Oh yes he also managed to get himself involved in four cup defeats also.
Can we not just tear up his contract or something? I mean he really is awful!

To anonymous above, the Eurostar is also at London Waterloo and has been for the best part of a decade plus

its actually to kings cross to catch the eurostar now…

Good to see that no-one is actually paying any attention to the subject of the article and is concentrating on the Eurostar debacle. Just for the record, the Eurstar terminal used to be at Waterloo, but moved St Pancras last year!!

Agreed
will take Big Phil anytime !!!!!!!!!!!

Indeed, regardless of the Eurostar debate, I also thought it was still in Waterloo, Silvestre is shit

My god the stats are horrendous, i always knew we did worse when he played, but my god that is atrocious.

It’s actually leaving from St Pancras

With stats like that he’s probably still on the books at United

I agree that he should not be getting much playing time other than early League Cup runs. However, none of us are on the training grounds or dressing rooms, so we have no idea what kind of effect he has on the younger players for guidance. He does have a lot of experience and he maybe helping out more so with confidence to the younger players rather than helping out of the pitch. I thin it is good to have the old players in the squad…we do not have to play him though.

He hasn’t played at all, besides in the Carling Cup. Is it such a big deal to let him go now?

From Rwanda: The writer of this article is the worst analyst. Why? he is basing his reasons on one player, he does not look at the broad picture of the team during those matches silvestre played. He is just a hater of Sylvestre as a player. I do accept he is not the right quality to have, but you ahve to be real with your observations, otherwise you seem a beginner in article writing, am sorry to sound so. Personally I do not eel any pressure with him in the white & red. You will know his importance when February & Match arrive, so leave the rest to Mr ARSENE Wenger. You know little about him compared to the Manager who got him.

You could posibly catch the Eurostar from King’s Cross , but only if you get the slow stopping train from Purley or Croydon West, but bear in mind depending on track maintenace on the junction outside Wisborough Green you might be delayed. Bearing that in mind it’s always possible to get the crossrail from Euston, calling at Sutton West, Carshalton Beeches and Tooting West.
Remember boys and girls, don’t play on the railway, and yes Silvestre is shit and should be shunted away with the goods train at Barking.

I have my full support for-anonymous – October 19th, 2009 at 3:58 pm,he’d got a real point in his comment..Do u remember this time around last year when Eboue was a really poor player and everyone ask Wenger to let him leave?this time this year,he had taken the heart of most of the supporters with his hardwork on the field to replace the lack of skills he have..He is one of the best subtitutes on the bench this time around..Even Song,Gallas,Bendtner and Diaby had improved so much,so who are we as the supporters of Arsenal to say that Silvestre had not improved,if even Gallas can improve so much..he may had not played yet this season, but I think that Silvestre still has it in him..Even if he’s not playing,he’s providing experience to the team..Remember the fact that Silvestre was at Man.U for quite a long time,so if SAF can see something in him to make him stay for a long time before selling him,I bet AW will also try and bring the best out of him this season when he plays..In Arsene we trust..
