Manchester United have been watching German goalkeeper Rene Adler.
The 24-year-old Bayer Leverkusen star was voted the Bundesliga’s top goalkeeper last year – and United scouts have been on his trail for a while. They’ve also tracked Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer, 23.

Sir Alex will have been glad that Edwin Van der Sar is back in action but is clearly still planning for a long term successor to the veteran Dutchman. Ben Foster and Thomas Kuszczak don’t look like they are ready to step into the breach and to be honest may never be up to the task but the Man United boss has been looking at some very good potential replacements in recent months and this latest one seems a solid choice also.
24 year old German international Rene Adler has been one of the most consistent performers in the Bundesliga for the past couple of seasons and this term he has been in awesome form helping Bayer Leverkusen side to the top of the table and have conceded just six goals in their opening ten games.
Adler is now firmly ensconced as the German national team number one and may feel that a move to Man United is to big a deal to pass up. He has safe hands and shows maturity beyond his years and could be available for a fee in the region of £12m and may be a bargain in comparison to the bigger names Ferguson has been supposedly considering bringing in, such as Igor Akinfeev or Julio Cesar.
