According to agent, Federico Pastorello, Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena hopes to return to Italy after having a tough time breaking into Rafa Benitez’s starting lineup.
“Napoli is following Dossena? I can only say that nothing has changed since the transfer window closed,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“I haven’t had any contact with [Napoli sporting director Riccardo] Bigon, but it is clear the player would like to return to Italy, because at Liverpool he is playing very little and he wants to be on a plane [for the World Cup] to South Africa.
“I hope after his injury he will be on the field in the Carling Cup. Andrea will do his utmost to regain a starting spot for Liverpool.”
The former Udinese player has only made two appearances for the Reds this season. (Goal.com)
You can’t blame Andrea from wanting to leave. He had a horrid first season at the club, albeit he managed to score two wonder goals in a week against Real Madrid and Man United, and now it seems he is further from the first team picture than ever. Fabio Aurelio and Emiliano Insua are bang in form at present and Dossena really doesn’t stand much of a chance of a game other than on Carling Cup nights so Rafa would do well to broach the issue and resolve it sooner rather than later and sell him back to Serie A.
I think the Italian showed glimpses of ability but was found wanting far too often, especially positionally, but he did always give 100% so I will wish him well when he does invariably head for the Anfield exit. The likes of Napoli and Juventus are reportedly very much interested in signing the Italian international.

We need to get more balance to the squad and the italian is one of those players with a few ahead of him in his positions the money would be useful for different areas and you can understand him being worried about his world cup place he definitely showed glimpses of being a good player.

Good Morning RaNEand Retryboy ………
With the injury to Albert Riera i would have liked to have seen what Andrea Dossena could have done on the left side of midfield. We know what Babel can and can’t do, same goes for Yossi Benayoun and Fabio Aurelio. It would be good to see what Dossena could do before we cut him lose…….

Sell him and use the money. However, he hasn’t been given a proper chance. use him as a left winger and we may be surprised. he is strong, relatively fast and can finish well. But he is just dead wood as we dont need him, we have good cover in the left-back and left-mid positions.

Retryboy – October 28th, 2009 at 2:40 pm ……. Would love to see how he copes, but can’t see Rafa do this….. Pity …..
anonymous – October 28th, 2009 at 12:57 pm …… you seem to be leaning oneway then the other on this matter ……. Rafa seems only to give chances to those that he seems fond of. To be honest the handful of games Andrea Dossena has had he has done better than Lucas and Babel and has a better “Goal to Game ratio” than them both …….
Do me one favor next time will you….. Post we a name …. I will not normally read an “anonymous” post

Afternoon everyone!
Now i actually feel sorry for Dossena i mean sure he had a very poor first season but he became rather good at the end of last season and started playing well whenever he played this season but LB is one of the most over crowded areas at Liverpool so its unfortunate
If he does go back to Italy then i am hoping he does really well as like other people has said he gave nothing less than 100% and anyone who does tha gets my respect in my books (and obviously clean sheets, goals, assists etc..)

Lucas has done quite well and was contender for MOTM against Man U. Babel has not been given a chance but he has shown a few times he has talent.

Thing is both the experienced left backs we have look better at left midfield and with insua not the finished article thats why i think we could do with a world class left back insua to be his back up. With benayoun looking set to hold down the left midfield spot when aquilani is fit would rather we lost 2 from aurelio, riera, dossena to fund that and i think aurelio has shown far more than the others.

M. Richards is a head case, has been off the boil for over a year. Why would you like a young man that got too much money to quickly, and a swollen brain on our team? Also, he’s been playing mostly FB not center back. Recently cost Man City 2 goals, in a game against Man U. Skrtel, declined in form recently, long term still a good future. Maybe if we can get Kjaer next summer, then it would open up some options.
