Rafa Benítez and Carlo Ancelotti don’t scrawl their transfer targets on the back of envelopes and use them to fan themselves as they stride through a throng of supporters. More’s the pity. Mind you, that’s not going to stop us reporting that Benítez has joined Arsenal, Sevilla, Juventus and Milan in the chase for 17-year-old “Georgian wonderkid” Zhano Ananidze. (Guardian)
Rafa has definitely attempted to harvest young talent at Anfield in the past 18 months. Our academy and youth sides have helped bring in a few talented players to the fringes of the first team and as well as looking to improve the development of the kids at the club he has also had an eye on bringing in younger players from abroad, as he did with David Ngog. With this in mind it appears he is keen on Zhano Ananidze.
The Georgian teenager is of course dubbed “The New Kinkladze” simply because there are very few other Georgians worthy of aligning your client to, this is no doubt what the player’s agents thought process was when he invariably came up with the comparison.
Zhano is by all accounts a damn fine prospect who has already made a name for himself at Spartak Moscow where he became the youngest player to score in the Russian Premier League earlier this month. No doubt interest in the youngster could have something to do with the fact that if he were to be picked up anytime soon he could serve three years at a Premier League club prior to turning 21 and therefore be counted as a ‘homegrown’ player under recent guidelines.
Looks a decent player but not sure we have the required £8m+ needed to sign an up and coming player, more likely that Rafa will look to use any spare cash on players who can make an immediate impact.

I’ve seen this kid in action, he really is the next big thing. Would surely jump at chance of a Premier League move

He looks a bit frail and weak for the permier league. Not exactly stunning in terms of what we need either.

He seems like a more gifted and younger version of Yossi Benayoun. though he would be a risk as he seems weak.iIt would be too expensive a risk for Rafa, especially considering our need for a Striker.
gemma barnes - October 28th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
yeh iv seen him and he’s $%^& good!!

Look at Koman Vladimir he is just £4m and is stronger, so better suited to the Prem. If we really want a good wonderkid look at Angel Di Maria he is the next big thing, Maradona says he is the next worldwide superstar. He will be expensive but worth it. He plays for Benfica and he ripped Everton to shreads.

gemma barnes is fit!
Ryan Babel - October 28th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Yh id prefer angel di maria. But surely benayoun is week but its his feet which help him same with pacheco so surely if hes only 17 he still hasnt fully grown so could easily get stronger. but stil more for the future we need players for now.

Pacheco is small in height but powerful and for his age(18) has been in the reserves for a long time two seasons now owen and fowler made their first team debuts at 17 and 18 always felt if you are good enough you are old enough and he definitely is! Need to start bringing him through in the carling cup… Tonight please!!

any young talent we can get our hands on is only a good thing.
anonymous - October 28th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
Yeah, but we cant keep getting in flops like Babel who have 4 good games. There isn’t anything wrong with his height but it’s that he seems fragile. That’s why i would prefer Di Maria. We need one huge star for the future apart from Torres.
anonymous - October 28th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
Or even Matias Di Federico who is dubbed the ‘New Messi’. He is also cheap, small and increadibly skillful.
RaNE - October 28th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
but remeber some people said torres was a bit weak for the prem and look now
Retryboy - October 28th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
Nemeth, pacheco there’s 2 guaranteed huge stars agree though gotta keep snapping up the young talent so much more satisfying watching them break through than being like city or chelsea and buying 28 year olds for 30 million!
anonymous - October 28th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Yeah it is more satisfying cause they cost us so little not £30m. But some young players are rated as £20m players. the comment about “some people said torres was a bit weak for the prem”,i understan what you’re saying but he was not this bad. the good thing is that almost all these youngsters are meant to be linked with Chelsea so every other club has a head start. Also going to places in europe before coming to Europe seems to do these kids some good. So Di Maria is slightlt more experienced.

You can all see what Rafa is trying to do with his youth policy you can see that with our first team our oldest player is 31 which is carra every body else is averagng about 25.
I tell you now Rafa knows what he is doing lets give him time and the finance to help this clb to become great again

Spartak is not selling…so, forget about him:) His contract runs till 2014 and I’m sure Spartak won’t rush into any deal (unless it’s higher end of eight digits).

yes he is not very strong, but if you remember Kinkladze he was everything except strong and yet every good team wanted to buy him… no doubt this guy will be good addition to any team, Although if i was him i would not join any big club until at least 21. and one more thing. he is 16! he will still grow he won’t stay that small! lol usually boys grow the most from the age of 15 to 19. you just have to look at his parents if they are tall he will probably grow too
