Ferguson is monitoring the progress of Rodwell and has asked close associates for reports on the teenager’s personality and potential.
Rodwell, who signed a five-year deal at Goodison Park in February, is also being tracked by Chelsea and Liverpool.
He has made his name as a defensive midfield player, but it is thought he has the
potential to develop into a classy central defender in the future.
Any move by Ferguson for Rodwell would be hugely controversial, given the furore that surrounded Wayne Rooney’s switch from Everton to United in 2004. (Daily Mail)
Jack Rodwell is destined to become a star of the future and it is no surprise that Sir Alex continues to track the Everton teenager and one wonders what would happen if the Man United boss put in a large bid for the England Under 21 international.
Having seen the animosity Wayne Rooney’s move from Goodison Park to Old Trafford created the youngster may think twice about such a move but at the same time may feel that in order to grow as a player and to fight for top silverware he may well have to consider a future away from the club. Also it is probably well noted that the anger generated by Rooney’s departure was almost totally down to the strikers continued insistence he wouldn’t leave, hence the “One a Blue Always a Blue” shirt he so mistakenly wore.
Ferguson is looking to add some more young talent to his line up and seems to be keen on some central midfield talent to take the torch from the likes of Paul Scholes. Rodwell shows great maturity and has fought for a regular spot in the starting eleven and made it his own.
