Oh, hi, Didier. Come in. Take a seat. Great game on Saturday, great game. What a goal, yet again! You’re doing well, as always. Now, we, as your fans, have called you here for a reason. It’s quite a big thing, an elephant in the room between us.
Hooo. Okay.
This is going to be hard.
Look, Drogba, you know we love you, right? And we always will. I mean, some of those goals you’ve scored have been fantastic – and a fair few have been so important for us, just… so important. Liverpool, Barça, United… you’ve torn their defences to shreds time and again. You work hard, even though it doesn’t always seem like it. More than once we’ve all been caught out, thinking, “Drogba’s done nothing today,” and then realising you’ve scored a brace and teed up Frank for the third. And, like I said, we love you for it. You’re already a legend.
But, please. We’re begging you as your friends, your fans, your worshippers: please stop pretending you’re injured when you’re not. And moaning to the ref. And getting needless cards, before getting all mopey when you inevitably get sent off. And getting banned. It’s… you know, you don’t need to. Let me put this in perspective for you.
It’s all kind of like Mark Lawrenson’s commentary. You know what I mean? It’s unnecessary, but it always seems to be there, and, yeah, it can kind of be funny sometimes, but eventually it just gets annoying. When what you want is detailed analysis, he gives one-word answers, and when you want a one-word answer he tells an unrelated joke. Sometimes he can be insightful, but it’s just not worth it for all the bollocks that you have to put up with in between. You see where we’re coming from?
I know habits are hard to break, and, yeah, you’re right, a lot of players do it, but most of them tone it down every once in a while, you know, or – I don’t know – don’t. And recently, you haven’t been too bad. Kudos. You’ve been doing well. Maybe Nico has inspired you or something. But, the thing is, we know you. We know you’ll do it again, and we know you’ll do it at exactly the time when it pisses the rest of the world off the most, so we have to defend you again. They’ll say, “Oh, that Drogba, what a dick!” and we’ll say, “He isn’t!” and they’ll come back with the classic, “Is!”, and we’ll be forced to counter with the drastic, “Isn’t!”, and then we’ll take it in turns to say “Is!” and “Isn’t!” over and over again until eventually we try to throw them a curveball and say, “He’s a great player, though,” expecting them to get confused and say, ‘Is!” so we can say “A-ha! You agree with me,” but instead, they’re a bit too quick and they say, “He’s still a dick,” and then they’ll stick out their tongues at us.
WHAT DEFENSE DO WE HAVE AGAINST STICKY-OUT TONGUES, DROGBA? How are we supposed to counter wit of that calibre?
So, yeah. Good luck for the next match. I’m sure you’ll do well. Just… keep in mind what we’ve said, right? Don’t do anything stupid, that’s all we ask. It’s not too much, is it?

Drogba is a sick player you know one of the best strikers in the world maybe, but he sometimes needs to stop faking it like pretending hes injured or something.

Drogba is the best.
anonymous - November 2nd, 2009 at 8:05 pm
in fairness he lies on the floor sometimes, but he is resting all great srikers need to rest during matches so they can burst in with a goal, the ronaldo was the best at it, it doesent effect the game when he is on the floor, he is on the floor not in the way, doesnt need to be running back and defending everytime, not always pretending to be injured sometimes he is simply resting/disapearing so he can come up with the magic he provides almost every match h plays in

I’d like to know how you know Drogba isn’t hurt. He went over in Cluj and severely damaged his ankle so he was out for weeks. When he returned he couldn’t run properly for 6 months. Every foul I’ve seen recently he’s been kicked right in the same point in the ankle. This is the one he always calls help for. If you don’t think it hurts please come round my house and first I’ll wrench your ankle out, then I’ll kick it pointedly hard twice an hour for the next year. Then you can tell me if it hurts or not. Then I’ll listen to you. But not now.

Diving Drogba cost Bolton any chance of getting a point on the weekend. He is a disgrace.
anonymous - November 3rd, 2009 at 3:27 am
Drogba has NEVER been booked for diving…
David what team do you really support?………….
anonymous - November 3rd, 2009 at 3:30 am
Hey Didi – don’t worry about what any fans, bloggers, journalists, or “pundits” say… I love hearing the whining from our opponents, let them get their panties in a wad – roll around and catch your breath all you need. Just keep sticking it in the back of the net.

Ha ha. Great article. Good for a chuckle.
Seriously though, it really has to stop. What made it just that little bit worse is the fact that both he and Chelsea’s fan base seem entirely unrepentant about it. I’m so glad that I’ve finally heard a Chelsea fan agree.
For me, personally, Chelsea have a very special place in my heart marked “rage”. This has stemmed from three places: Mourinho’ arrogance, Drogba’ diving, and Ballack’s rage. Nowadays though it seems Drogba’s diving is the only one that remains (although a certain Jed makes me feel that Mourinho’s arrogance has moved into their fanbase, forgive the generalisation), especially since old man Ballack is in line for a prosthetic hip (fnah fnah).
Still, as I say, great article and I hope to read more. Who knows, you may just restore my faith in the humanity of Chelsea fans.

drogba used to dive, not anymore. the thing is that drogba is a physical player and he puts his body in front of the ball and thats why he gets kicked all the time. He has certainly improved his game by not diving.
there is no doubt at this point that he is one of the best strikers in the world if not the best. he has 8 goals and 7 assists in 9 games. name any striker who has that record right now (i know torres has 9 goals but im pretty sure his assists are not even close to drogbas).

To the anon above: While I won’t refute your second point (yes Drogba is bloody good), I don’t agree with your first.
Last year I did a little case study on my own. I watched each of the top 4 in what could be called a crunch match and tried to analyse the personalities of the teams when the pressure is on. Now my findings are obviously skewed by the fact that I am a LFC supporter so bear that in mind.
I found that LFC and Man U really got stuck into the tackles. They barged people off the ball, demanded posession and shot with conviction. Arsenal did the opposite. They seemed hesitant to push too far, thought for a moment too long, and relied on sparce moments of magic to push them through.
But Chelsea. Oh, Chelsea. It seems that the more pressure their players were under, the weaker their legs became. Now I understand that a lot of players dive, and I also understand that Drogba is putting his body on the line, but when Lucas is shoulder to shoulder with him and somehow sends the behemoth flying like a paper jet, there’s something wrong. How can a striker who is so strong when running on goal become so flimsy when he isn’t?
Now it sounds like I’m attacking the chavs, but I really do respect them (I’d have Essien, Terry and Lampard in my team in a heartbeat). However the image they are making for themselves really does stink.

Take him as he iss. The great times and the bad times. He is who he is and I wouldn;t have him any other way. It’s a package deal.

When I read your first article aquaman I thought he has got to be a wingeing scouser then I read another article and I find you are a wingeing scouser.
anonymous - November 3rd, 2009 at 5:22 pm
Acquaman, how can you preach to us when you have a couple of players yourself who themselves have, shall we say, gone down with minimal contact, namely Gerrard and Torres.
And as for you doing your analysis on the top 4, I have 3 words for you…….Get a life!!
And you should be wondering about whats going on at your club
Come on you Blues!!!!!
anonymous - November 3rd, 2009 at 5:26 pm
i don’ t understand how can someone blame Drogba,if you juts look at the way defenders hit him, they never try too hit his ball, because every manager on premier league knows how strong player is he , so they always tell to them players too hit him on body,, you just look to any of drogba-s duel and you’ll see it… it’s a shame for some people that they simply became blind from the hate that they got for Chelsea… i really don’t understand, you have a players like Scholes or mascherano who deserve card in every duel and you talk about diving…i’m just looking how far can this goes,, i’m sorry for my english, but i’m not england that can prove how fer i can judge this case, cause for me is not ipmortan if drogba comes from africa or from London, nether if alex ferguson is sir or not, for me is importan to see a good game, and fer ref wich i odn’t see in premier league ( i’m talking about referee, you just look at the games like arsenal vs man utd, man city svman utd..)
Retryboy - November 3rd, 2009 at 5:44 pm
Its the rules and referees that need to be addressed its a blight on the game that is ruining it. The constant stupid free kicks that we all accept now. If the refs consistently didn’t give fouls for the slightest contact players would soon be staying on their feet. The directives to the refs have to change contact does not equal a foul. Another thing that drives me mad is when players are shielding the ball out they make no attempt to play the ball are sometimes a metre away from it, wrestling the player. Why isn’t that deemed a foul?

Anon at 1.37 your powers of deduction are amazing! How you nearly managed to spot a liverpool fan who has torres as his picture is truly sherlock holmes material!!
anonymous - November 4th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
Sepp Blatter has given his blessing to strikers who try to get the referee’s attention in order to indicate he has been fouled. So if it’s good enough for FIFA it should be good enough for anybody. And I have yet to hear the same condemnation shown towards Gerrard & Owen who both graduated with honours from the Liverpool simulation class. Perhaps it’s because most of the Drog haters are Koppites (should that be Koprolites?).
anonymous - November 4th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
Sepp Blatter is a fucktard, and u are gonna agree with him?
