Angel di Maria sounds a little like a sultry Spanish songstress who you’d find warblling huskily in red dress in a smoky cellar bar somewhere in Madrid. Rather disappointingly, though, he’s an Argentinean winger playing for Benfica who is being watched by Chelsea. The 21-year-old has also been scouted by Manchester United and Liverpool. (Guardian)
Clearly any move from Liverpool for this impressive young Argentine international will be a big stretch given the financial limitations Rafa is working under. Also it seems unlikely that Messrs Hicks and Gillett will fork out huge sums in January if they are then going to consider sacking the boss sometime later, which lets face it, is a distinct possibility.
Previously talk of a move for the Benfica winger revolved around a huge clause within the players contract reportedly around the £32m but now its being discussed that such a move would actually cost around half that fee. So perhaps the Portuguese league leaders are keen to cash in on Angel Di Maria.
We have a flaw on our left side at the moment with no one quite being up for the task so in theory this move would be perfect but I just don’t see it happening, not with our current owners in charge.

If the chavs and the Mancs are bidding then we can’t compete. It’s that simple really. Maybe Di Maria harbours a lifelong desire to play for Liverpool. If he does then I guess we’d be in with a shout.

would be a grrrrrr8 sihning, hes gonna be a very good player.but doesnt he have a 40 mill release cause so surely they wont take less than that, so thats us out.

i prefer silva, he is more creative and playmaker
Retryboy - November 3rd, 2009 at 3:52 pm
The original article is talking about chelsea watching him. Liverpool and united are only mentioned as a footnote as clubs that have scouted him. Its a big jump to us wanting him and with the clubs after him the fee would never be that cheap.

You my friend are a ninconpoop pure and simple. I have never before heard anyone say in the same sentence “I love Liverpool but I am praying they lose”?????
Retryboy - November 3rd, 2009 at 6:50 pm
Anon at 6.19 do you not realise the implications for the club if we lose? Second what Hoogleboy says and if you don’t believe rafa is the man for the job why don’t you pray that you are wrong instead?

Kop King
As much as i am dismayed by some of rafas signings and his continual persistence to back certain players he will still struggle to win the league unless he is given the financial backing to buy such players like man united and chelsea can.

I think we should let Rafa go to Real Madrid, appoint Dalglish until the end of the season and then get Martin O ‘Neill at the end of the season, he will lead us foward with players like Milner and Young.

He’s not that good and we’re skint so forget about, too often our fans get carried away and its embarressing

ChrisLFC here
I think before we go wasting anymore money on signings bring back some of the young lads that are out on loan especially Nemeth. Liverpool need to build for the future instead of looking for a quick fix which i believe we have done for sometime. Think of arsenal for example . last year that had an avg year by there standards but they bled in alot of young players and it seem to be paying off for them. instead of loaning them out give the youngsters a shot.
Retryboy - November 4th, 2009 at 5:00 am
Spot on chris we could really have done with nemeth this season so far. We need to keep picking up young talent and rafa is. Time is right to trust them and signs are good with sky sports saying we are ready to buy Koman who stars with nemeth for hungary. I am just as impatient as you to see him in a liverpool shirt especially when we see players like voronin getting games but the signs are good they are soon to be trusted. Unfortunately can’t see rafa biting the bullet and re-calling him from athens this season. If torres does need a hernia op he definitely should.
anonymous - November 4th, 2009 at 6:09 am
WTF is the deal with Voronin? He’s old, slow, bereft of any type of skill and a beach ball is outscoring him.Give Babel a start and have Daniel Pacheco on the bench.
Ryan Babel - November 4th, 2009 at 9:27 am
Get Eljero Elia instead much cheaper and he plays like the dutch version of walcott hes really fast and puts good crosses in.
Ryan Babel - November 4th, 2009 at 9:29 am
Cause i doubt we could get di maria for 15 when they just recently put a 40 euro release cause to stop club buying him cheap.

Don’t even see where the £15m would come from even if he were that cheap.

anonymous - November 4th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
definitely wld be an impressive signing, saw how he made a fool out of the everton defenders during benfica’s thrashing on everton..gosh he was so fast and the everton defenders were struggling to get to him,but dun u guys think we shld get a right winger first?we canna depend too much on dirk kuyt as he ages
Ryan Babel - November 4th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
Eljero Elia is a right and left winger or he can play upfront
Ryan Babel - November 4th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
if we could get him or mata and swap babel +5m for luis suarez then thats 20 m in jan surely we have enough for that.if not get Eljero Elia and suarez that would be about 15m
Retryboy - November 4th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
The last story i heard on babel was that his transfer fee would be used to cover reina’s new contract. Think Koman at £4m is much more in our price range.

If Angel goes Utd, He will be one one the best players in the world. He’s very talented but needs some orientation like Cristiano when he arrives Manchester. I think only united have this kind of environment at this time. He will learn more about tactics and will gain more muscle. He will not score 30 goals on a season, but for shure he will give lots of them for others to score.
Now he is playing for Cardozo and Oscar have at this time 11 goals in 8 games and Benfica scored a massive 30 goals in those same 8 games for Liga.
Pablo Aimar think the game, Di Maria makes the final pass, Oscar Cardozo and Saviola make the goal. Simple as that.

Benfica reffused 30 million euros from Man City last week. After another victory over Everton, Benfica’s President Vieira had a visit from City in Liverpool offering 30 millions to take the player in January. But Benfica is looking for The Liga title and the winning of Europa Cup and won’t let him go for less the 40 million release clause.
