Manchester United are the latest big name club to be linked with highly rated Danish defender Simon Kjaer.
The 20-year-old defender is winning rave reviews for his performances at Italian side Palermo, as well as for his performances in the World Cup qualifiers for Denmark.
The youngster was heavily linked with Premier League clubs Liverpool and Chelsea in March, and has since attracted admiring glances from Real Madrid.
Now it’s the turn of Manchester United to be linked with the defender, according to Tuttomercatoweb.com.
Kjaer is a self-confessed Liverpool fan, but admitted that it would not stand in the way of a potential move to Old Trafford.
“If United just had two defenders whilst Liverpool had three, I would choose United without hesitation,” Kjaer said in October.
Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to strengthen his defence with the long-term fitness of Rio Ferdinand still in question, and Kjaer is one of a number of defender to be linked with the Old Trafford club.
“It does not help to choose with the heart in that kind of situation. I am a professional.” The Danish defender is believed to have a minimum fee release clause in the region of £11 million in his contract. (Give Me Football)
Lets face it, our defence has been nothing short of shocking this season. We struggle to deal with the most basic elements of the game and whichever pairing we place in front of Pepe Reina, they consistently fail to deal with a ball into the box.
Last season we conceded just 27 goals all season and already after just 12 games we have allowed our opponents to score 18 times and most of those were down to our centre backs switching off.
Simon Kjaer is supposed to be the next big thing and perhaps the addition of a top notch defender will scare our defenders into actually performing well. The Palermo man is a much wanted man and as this source suggests, Man United are also looking to capture the Danish international, which shows that we are talking about a top notch performer so hopefully we could convince the Serie A man that he would be better placed coming to the team he supports rather than to Old Trafford.

Would be a good signing for the future, maybe in two or three years time we could have a Kjaer and Ayala pairing? That would work well.

Stupid report, liverpool wouldn’t consider him at half that price, we’ve three great centre backs and two good players as cover, some good talent coming through, so why would we be interested in spending money we’ve not got on him. If we had 10 mill to waste surely it would go on cover for Torres as clearly thats the problem this year!

Who the tosspot who’s talking about Kjaer and Ayala as a pairing in a couple of season, what about Agger and Skytel, how quickly are you turning your back on two already great players in our squad. Whats the bets your from nowhere near Liverpool.

disagree with you anon 7.05, our centre backs have been woeful so far this season.since hyppia left we have llittle or no aerial defense and are also missing his goals from set pieces, we need someone like kjaer or hangeland quite badly
take the free kick the other night against birmingham, skrtel was totally outmuscled and resultantly they scored. we need a formidable centre half , especially for defending setpieces

yh we should be able to cope with the current 3 cb’s. if we can get a good partnersgip altough we do seem to need a tall defender to header away like the 1st bham goal.
but rather we concentrate on a st and winger like Higuian or suarez and di maria and elia.

i like agger and i like skrtel, but facing facts skrtel just aint doing it at the minute
a partnership of kjaer or hangeland and agger would be a better pairing , esp kjaer and agger seeing as they are both danish

Yes, could be a good but. However, we would have to get rid of Kyrgiakos. Plus, i would prefer a English defender, they may cost more but too many foriegn players is not a good idea. Richards seems to be to obvious solution. He is good in the air, good at tackling and can score goals. he would be an exelent replacement for Carragher.

erm richards is a good player , but he is not dominant in the air, not like hangeland or vidic for utd
we need a mighty force at the back i think, and in agger we already have a great ball playing centre back, saying that he would be a useful squad player , good cover for both rb and cb and even right midfield where he started his career

arsenal clichy chelsea cole utd evra us aurelio/insua/dossena, we could sell both dossena and aurelio and buy a decent left back
dunno who yet though maybe cisshoko from lyon as retro boy suggested , he looked pretty good in an attacking sense , esp seeing as we d have insua as cover and chris mavinga coming through

Well Cissokho deal wont happen.BUt I think that we could o for Vargas.Vargas at this moment is one of the best left backs in the world.Firoentina would also agree to a Dossena +4mp deal for Vargas.
After that seal Pandev for 4mp.Let go of Voronin.
With Riera and benny injured Babel will get time on the pitch.If he justifies then he stays or he goes and in comes Elijah.

Vargas is a very good shout being 6′1″ would help with our lack of height. His free kick ability on top would mean we wouldn’t miss aurelio at all and dossena is still really highly rated in italy so deal could be possible. Good call matt!

I dont think that he Kjaer is that much of a necessity for you guys you already have an abundance of fine defenders and ok they are not performinig great at present but apart from say the chelsea pair thats it in the lge so its a bit far fetched to say that u need Kjaer.
I would say look at Busgets? from Barca to be a direct replacement for Xabi.
If Masch is determined to go to Barca then say 20 million +Busgets-I think thats how its spelt!
And with the money make a bid for VDV to partner Torres and drop Stevie back into the middle along with Busgets and Acquilani.

Calvo Masch wont leave this January,so stop mentioning about who we should sign if Masch leaves.In January we should sign:
-Vargas or a worldclass Left Back
-Pandev.He is for peanuts.Can play as the LWM/SS/CF.
-and if budget permits a LW.Trading Riera for Simao could also work.Cause Atletico would get a Spanish player and say 5mp.That will also help in their budget as they wont play in the champions league.

Sorry but at no point had I implied that Masch would be going in January and other than his agent and Rafa no one else does either!
I was simply putting a case forward that should that be the case then I suppose like everyone else on here who is speculating I was putting an alternative.
So far everyone has mentioned players from Silva to Pandev as to who they would or could see at Liverpool.
Fact is that until January is over everyone is gonna be speculating and hoping for the player that can change a clubs fortune.
And as logic would have it the simple fact that as reported Masch would like to join Barca I dont think its that far fetched to think that it could be January or the end of the season that he does leave!!
And as a result it would serve liverpool better – and again we´re entitled to an opinion- that they look to use Masch as a bargaining tool to get what THEY want this time around.
