Should Liverpool Striker David Ngog be Punished for This Dive? (Video)
by Mad Dog and Glory on November 10th, 2009 102 words | 19 commentsOK, so no one on planet Earth can honestly say this wasn’t a dive but what now? Arsenal striker Eduardo did a similar ’sack of potatoes to the floor type dive’ and was banned by UEFA who then remembered they were in effect an impotent body and they swiftly changed their tune. Surely something needs to be done about the alarming rise in simulation in the game. Take a look at this and marvel at the manner in which referee Peter Walton screwed up big time!

Something needs to be done this has been a blight on our game for ages. We need to use replays in the game for penalty decisions at least in the time arguing after the decision someone sat watching a monitor could easily have said no penalty. Players caught cheating should be given a 2 match ban. Don’t see why ngog should be the first player punished when united have won titles off Ronaldo’s tumbler and Drogba spends more time on the grass than cheech and chong but if it starts a precedent that runs the same for everyone i won’t care there are no consistent divers in the liverpool team.

If he was punished then you would have to punish Drogba, Ronaldo, Eduardo(and this time don’t leave him off), Rooney,Messi and Gerrard!!! And A LOT more!!!

Calvo…
Perhaps he should be, but as he has said he didnt think it was then theres not much else that can happen.
But really there needs to be replays to eliminate any further debates…simple.
The amount of time the ref has to part players and players arguing,if u had the replay then none of the squabbling would accure.
And anyone found doing once the replay showed that they had dived would be sent off and banned for a period of 3 games that should put an end to it all.

NO!!!!!!!!

SHOULD he be punished? yes, every player who dives should be punished
WILL he be punished? obvioulsy not
Retryboy above has it right, but for the wrong reasons…. No he should be made an example of, but because there is actually no ruling that states a player can be punished retrospectively for diving. and THAT would be unfair
FIFA and UEFA should be firm, it cant just be done willy nilly, there should be a concrete ruling put in place like the FAs fasttrack process for Violent Conduct
it is difficult tho, even using such a ruling as “was there contact”… there is always arguments both ways. i have heard fans trying to defend dives saying he was getting out the way of a dangerous tackle… or there was no contact, but the defender got nowhere near the ball but impeded the players run… i suppose those arguments are valid in some cases and that is where the process can get a bit wooly
on the flip side, many defenders claim i touched the ball… yes you can touch the ball, but sometimes, does the very faintest of clips on the ball whilst clattering the man constitute a good tackle? not always…
also, why would a 1,2 or 3 match ban be issued for something that is punishable by a yellow card on the pitch??

he’s a young lad hopefully he will learn from this a strict talking to thats all im sure it was said in the dressin room to him this has to be stopped if it was a bham player divin to win a pen the bullshit talk in the papers would have raffa sacked before the game finished.

There is the rule that if the referee hasn’t dealt with a foul or seen it then the fa can look at it. Obviously a retrospective yellow card would be no punishment at all where as if it was caught during the game that would be all it would warrant when its changed a game where careers are at stake it definitely warrants more. Defenders do get away with a lot of cynical tackles how many times do we see a striker much quicker than the defender being put through and the defender taking a yellow card with a blatant body check rather than leave them 1 on 1 with the goalie a professional foul only has to stop a clear goal scoring opportunity and if a torres, anelka, van persie has got the jump on a centre back there is no way they are catching them doesn’t matter if it happens on the half way line in my book.

Looks like he learnt that from Gerrard and Torres is training.

Such a disgrace diver. Not honest at all. Should tell martin taylor to come break his foot like what he did to edurado. So that next time he won’t get so xialan and dive.

Totally agree with retry on this one. I cannot understand why in this day and age, with technology as it is, there is not someone watching a tv and commentating to the ref. The ref already has an earpiece and there are more cameras at the ground than on Katie Price’s front lawn so it would be so easy to implement. The replay was probably even shown on the big screens in the ground while the players were arguing for gods sake. It would cut out all problems as far as I can see and I have not heard one argument that say’s using video technology would be a bad thing.
