Interest is mounting for Brazilian hot property Hernanes who is strongly linked with a move to Italy but has also attracted the interest of a number of Premier League sides. Liverpool are the latest club to be linked with the playmaker in the Brazilian press with claims that Rafa Benitez will step up his chase the talented South American by financing the move with the sale of fringe players Andrea Dossena and Ryan Babel.
The 24-year-old’s full name is Anderson Hernanes de Carvalho Andrade Lime and he currently plies his trade for Sao Paulo. The club currently top the Brazilian top flight a point ahead of rivals Palmeiras with just 4 games left with their season ending in December.
Hernanes has been linked to the likes of AC Milan and Juventus but the Italian clubs have struggled to raise the fee Sao Paulo are demanding. The midfield schemer’s club ridiculed a recent attempt by AC to sign the player with Sao Paulo Technical Director Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes revealing to Globoesporte’s of the Italian club’s interest in their defender Miranda and Hernanes.
He had this to say, “I need to find how much a crate of bananas is worth, as that is how much they want to give us for both players.
We know that Milan ended the season in the red and not even the £60m from Kaka’s sale to Real Madrid was enough to balance the books.”
The player himself has spoken of his love for Serie A but the financial lure of the Premier League could sway the Brazilian to our shores. Hernanes revealed to the Gazzetta dello Sport,”I’m a player who loves to think on the pitch.”
“I understood that in every player there’s the time to evaluate and do the best things. My best qualities are probably dribbling with the ball and my hard shot.
“The comparison with Pirlo is very good, it definitely pleases me. He’s a complete player, probably the best midfielder in the world.
“I especially watch constantly the matches of Inter and Milan, also because there are many Brazilians. It would be something to be proud of and a pleasure to play in Italy one day.”
Despite his love of Italian football, Hernanes would be at home at Anfield with fellow Brazilians Lucas, Fabio Aurelio and Diego Cavalieri at the club. (Football Pools)
Hernanes was voted as the best rising star in the game back in January and clearly he is a much sought after property and perhaps the angle of us having a number of fellow Brazilians could be a helping hang, it seems to help when it comes to recruiting Spaniards.
By all accounts the 24 year old is a good distributor of the ball, keeps the game moving and can ping 30 yard passes intelligently, but presumably that is what Alberto Aquilani has been purchased to do?
It is worth noting that the success rate of South Americans coming direct to the Premier League is pretty patchy to say the least and so there would be a certain amount of gambling involved in such a move but perhaps given the plaudits he has received he would be the exception to the rule and no doubt Rafa’s Brazilian scouting team is monitoring the players progress.

I think if everyone in our midfield is fit and in form we are okay. We can have Masch and Aquilani with Gerrard ahead of them and Lucas on the bench.
anonymous - November 11th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
we dont need another playmaker. we have lucas, aquilani and spearing as well as many players like benayoun. what we need is another defensive midfielder like diarra, gattuso or frings.

WTF??? Lucas is a Defensive midfielder and so is Spearing for that matter. How the hell is Lucas creative???

DDS
Well well we are being linked with almost every midfielder in the world !!!
8m i dont know will rafa have that much money to spend!!!!
Ryan Babel - November 12th, 2009 at 9:09 am
the mifielder liverpool really should have got was diego!
Retryboy - November 12th, 2009 at 9:39 am
Its definitely what we need think it will depend who is more affordable out of him and van der vaart
Digger - November 12th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
spot on ryan babel, i was saying this for ages. diego is a great player. hernandes is like lucus for me… i think that the money would be better spend on van der vaart.
what you guys say about getting sol campbell?? not bad for a free?, better than the greek guy
baggins09 - November 12th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
lucas was actually an attacking mid for gremio and brazil its rafa who has tried to play him as a dm and who makes him stay back so if he’s not attacking enough for you there is only one man you can blame.
and sorry but if spearing was as good as some people like to beleive he’d be in the squad ahead of lucas, he’s good there is no doubting that but i think some people let the fact he’s a local lad blind there judgement, he’s obviously not ready yet.
diego would have been awsome but out our price range unfortunately
i’d rather have van der vart than hernanes too, hamsik would be good he is younger but about the same price as vdv
just out of curiosity how much do you think kalou would cost we could play him and kuyt up front while gerrard and torres injured, well we could if our manager wasn’t an arrogant, tactically inept, stubourn arse of a man.

BAGINS09 from what i saw of Lucus since he came to liverpool, i don’t think uyou could call him a attacking midfielder in the truest form, i mean he was a poor passer of the ball, couldn’t shoot, couldn’t cross… you can blame a lot of things of Rafa but transforming lucus into a def mid was prob a stroke of genuis as can be seen now with his performances. i just don’t think i could see lucus play the gerrard role…..
kalou good player, would like to see him play for us but highly unlikey…babel should not be played as a striker as the guy is just awful at the moment, would pick ngog, pacheco over him.
baggins09 - November 12th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
he wouldn’t play the gerrard role as gerrard is playing as second striker not an attacking mid which lucas was before he came to us, but he’s been made to play a more disaplined role which was hindering him when he first came to us but now he’s settling in, babel is awful at the minute as everytime he gets the ball he feels he needs to win the match for us or do something fantastic to get noticed by benitez he’s trying too hard and getting rushes of blood to the head like that freekick!
i know we won’ get kalou, would like to see johnson rw, and kuyt and babel up to together with aquilani just behind them, masch holding and dossena on the left.

“babel is awful at the minute as everytime he gets the ball he feels he needs to win the match for us or do something fantastic to get noticed by benitez he’s trying too hard and getting rushes of blood to the head like that freekick!” –great point, and well said, what do you think we should do with babel?, i mean i think every liverpool fan wants him to do well but its just not happening, selling seems the only option to me…
gerrard is so darn good he has HAD to play the second striker, (mainly because we have no other quality one), but it still begs the question that lucus could never have played a attacking midfield role..
i so think torres needs quality alongside him, i still think Adriano can do it….
baggins09 - November 12th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
i’ve been saying about adriano on another thread he’d be perfect, as for babel its not him thats the problem its rafa he’ll never do well under him he needs a wenger or harry type manager who’s gonna actually tell him he’s done good not benitez who wrote “keep improving” on torres match ball after got a hatrick! so i’d probably give him a few games uptop then on the right if no good get rid
Digger - November 12th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
baggins09 didn’t see the thread about adriano, but i know it can work.. and just imagine adriano and torres up front… its making my mouth water….
lets not forget that before torres came to liverpool, he was thought of as a good prospect but needed 6 goes to hit the mark, a good player in a average side. 20mill was a gamble… and look how it turned out… that was all down to rafa.
i quite like rafa putting that on the match ball to torres, no one should feel complacent. these players read there own hype and it gets to them. Babel has had plenty of opportunities to prove himself, if he lacks confidence thats his problem, don’t say rafa doesn’t support players look at what he’s done to lucus.
the guy was awful now he’s getting better and better every game.
The reason why i think that rafa will win us the league is that he is not complacent. you know paisley used to always say your as good as your last game…

Come off it torres had been a full spain international for 4 years when we bought him! He had scored 7 goals in qualifying for the world cup 2006 and 3 in the finals. As well as averaging about a goal every 2 games for athletico. Chelsea tried buying him in 2005 he was hardly an unknown!! Babel has constantly been played on the left even though he is massively right footed and when he has played on the right he has looked really good the last time was against west ham where he got us 3 points with a pinpoint cross for torres who praised his performance after the game. Since then he has been put back on the left again! Rafa is either blind or just can’t admit he has played him wrong for years.

i adriano and torres would be amazing can you imagine it? not sure how to fit gerrard and aquilani in though probably go

i love yossi but would love to have a left footed player on the left i think we’d should give dossena a few games while we’ve got these injuries you know it makes sense
baggins09 - November 12th, 2009 at 5:49 pm
retryboy- i think its the latter he’s just too stubourn to admit he’s been wrong and he’d rather end up selling him than admitting it.

Well kuyt was terrible in europe babel scored a wonder goal and nearly bagged another and who got picked against brum? Rafa plays with 4 defenders 2 defensive midfielders and kuyt. Leaving only space for 3 flair players with torres and gerrard taking 2 of those places the likes of benayoun, babel, riera, fighting for one spot they definitely haven’t had the chances i mean compare his chances to lucas and he’s come good now. Shows what you can do with a bit of support shame he will only do it with his workhorses not his flair players

I would drop dirk kuyt, his distribution is awful he cannot play out wide and his goal ratio dose’nt even exsist so i would’nt even contemplate playing him up front either, every time we go forward and try break quickly on the counter and he’s in possession of the ball he slows us down i would have babel ahead of him all day long give the boy a chance he is clearly not playing often enough to build up some sort of pattern or consistency in his play. Ngog can play up front with Gerrard supporting, kuyt is without a doubt hindering the team and because of his work rate people feel that he should be the first player on the teamsheet, he may have the work rate but i’m affraid to say he lacks quality i think you wold see a major difference if kuyt was dropped!
baggins09 - November 12th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
so basically it brings us back to rafa again and the fact he’s not the messiah he gets made out to be, i think if there is a glimmer of hope of silverware by christmas keep him and see how the season ends then make a decision, but if we’re out of champs league by christmas with no real prospects of silverware cut our losses and get someone who’s not so fixated with one formation
Retryboy - November 12th, 2009 at 6:55 pm
I still feel like we should act now while Mancini is available otherwise we will probably see babel being sold without ever getting a chance on the right at a loss and the squad rebuilt based on that 4-5-1 formation we won’t though because its not the liverpool way so we have to carry on dreading seeing the team sheet every game.

All this is trash,i wuld rather sell voronin6m,kygriakos1m,babel8,ngog5m,dossena6m,degen4m, and get juan mata12m,jakub blawzich10m and shawcross.the team would be like this reina, johnson, cara, agger, aurelio, mata, masch, aquilani, jakub, gerrard and torres.subs kelly, kuyt, benayoun, cavalieri, insua, lucas and riera.
