NISSAN CUP D ALESSANDRO

Harry Redknapp wants to sign Andrés D’Alessandro, who was at one point going to be the new Diego Maradona, then looked like he might not really be up to much, then looked really good for a bit (at Pompey), then went to Brazil to play for Internacional. (Guardian)

Quite why the Tottenham boss would be looking at signing this 28 year old Argentine is beyond me. During his previous stint in the top tier of English football he managed to impress and helped Portsmouth avoid the drop when Redknapp was the Pompey boss.

He then went on to represent Real Zaragoza before heading home to Argentina and now finds himself at Brazilian side Internacional. Many papers will have you believe that the north London side need to add another winger to the resolve the supposed ‘problem’ area of the left side but I don’t see this happening.

Luka Modric was doing a sterling job out on the flank and now Tottenham are adopting a new formation that seems to be doing the trick. D’Alessandro is a bit of a showpony and even though he has improved these past few years but is still way off the Argentine international pecking order and I think that speaks volumes. I know that Harry likes to chop and change but I think any move he makes in January will be geared towards youth and not in signing has beens.
