Chelsea Set to Complete Record Breaking £40m Aguero Deal
by Christian Bailey on November 18th, 2009 341 words | 35 commentsCarlo Ancelotti closes in on Argentine sharp shooter.
Chelsea will push through a £40m deal for Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero it was reported today.
The Argentine international has been a long term target for the Stamford Bridge outfit and it would appear that a deal will finally go through in January.
The report from The Telegraph suggests Chelsea will meet with the 21-year-old’s agent on Monday to thrash out a deal, which at £40m, would make him the most expensive signing in British football transfer history.
Chelsea are eager to do business in the winter transfer window, with a Fifa-imposed transfer ban due to take effect from next summer. Chelsea have lodged an appeal against the ban, but should it fail they will be unable to do any business for some time.
Aguero is one of the most sought after players in world football having impressed at Atletico over the last couple of seasons. The striker scored twice against Chelsea in the recent 2-2 Champions League draw (Independent)
The ongoing pursuit by Chelsea of Argentine’s rising star Sergio Aguero has been going on for some time and this source seems to suggest that a deal is set to be made between the player and the club so now it appears down to the La Liga side to see if the sum discussed is worthy of acceptance which appears to be the case.
Given the fact that the West London side’s transfer ban has only been suspended and not lifted completely, which is probably will be, they will be looking to make any substantial signings in January for fear of falling foul of FIFA and not having any option to purchase any players for some time.
Do Chelsea need another striker? Well with Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka both over 30 it does make sense to plan for the future and with the likes of Daniel Sturridge on the bench coming along nicely they will be looking for yet more youthful options for the future, such as Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero.

He should go to Liverpool
anonymous - November 18th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
liverpool dont have the money to buy him…
baggins09 - November 18th, 2009 at 8:16 pm
i still think its a joke they’ve delayed the ban, whats the point in laws if there is no real punishment, by giving them a another window when there owner is able to throw 100m on transfers without batting an eye lid just underminds the whole idea of punishing them to begin with, because they can get cover now and not have to worry about the ban, fair enough if it was a skint club where the provisions they could make in the window would be minimal but romans just gonna get out the check book and buy a new squad.
i hope aguero turns them down and holds out for us in the summer when we might be able to compete a little better
kopman - November 18th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
yeah this is bollox i agree with baggins whats the point in giving them a transfer ban if they dont have to see out the ban? will it be the same for all the other clubs now?
we will end up with people bribing refs, people diving left right and centre, players playing for more than 1 club it’ll be anarchy!!!!
anonymous - November 18th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
why would he turn chelsea down to go to liverpool ?
answers that include the word HISTORY are irrelavant.
Aguero is argentinian, and looking for a move which the best chance of winning trophies NOW

in recent years liverpool have been just as succesful as chelsea yeah chelsea won the league, we won the champs league, they both won the f.a cup.
now you give me reason why he should definatly sign for chelsea without saying “coz we are gonna win the league this season” coz thats far away yet and anything could happen.
1. reason he should turn chelsea down to go to liverpool is coz we have the best striker in the world and chelsea dont. we have gerrard and you have lampard, fair play chelsea have john terry but your keeper is a bag of nerves since he got his little hat.
so theres my answer without mentioning “history” and no1 could know whos gonna win what so you cant say you have the best chance of winning trophies coz i got a sneaky feeling your not gonna get your hands on the champs league any time soon and the prem is still anybodys yet.

you all seem to forget a big big point which aguero has mentioned a few times HE SUPPORTS LIVERPOOL.

im a liverpool fan and to all those liverpool fans out there that always say we’ll get villa, silva and aguero wake up we cant buy players like that now look at our team we wont get top 4 were going out of the cl and there is NO money for players like this we’ll have 10 million and thats me being hopeful. i dont think we’ll get anyone tbh because players can see us failing and enought of all this history bull players want money and to win things and we dont offer good wages and we dont win

What do u mean chelsea wont see out the ban? in march they WILL be suspended for two transfer windows. And yea, liverpool do have the best striker in the world but drogba and anelka make up 4 that. I would take gerrard over lampard but the deciding factor in why CHELSEA are at the top of the table is the fact that liverpool’s defence is not very good. not to say that chelsea’s is superb, but at least it is average. I respect liverpool but i hate it when their fans like some of you guys act like your the class of the world and everyone wants to go to your club. just like barcelona fans….

all these liverpool loosers …hw they hate chelsea and this is wht we chelsea fans love …you will not win the league in a century …except for gerrad and torres all the players are loosers…….keep dreaming……

Typical Chelsea supporters. They think that because they are 1st at the moment that the league is alredy theirs. What a joke!!!!! Liverpool are going thru a rough time now, though it doesnt mean we wont win anything. And all of a sudden u guys think Aguero will join Chelsea.ITS A RUMOUR IDIOTS!!!! O and by the way, just because Chelsea are going thru a good run doesnt mean it automatically makes Chelsea a trophy winning team. LFC 4 Life!!!

Im so tired of reading liverpool fans and united fans, complain about the ban being lifted for the winter transfer window. WAKE THE F… UP! ur clubs are doing the same. United buy 10 year olds for crying out loud! And stile one player after the other, the only differnce is that martin placinic doesnt hate ur clubs, he hates chelsea. This is great for chelsea, now we spend abit again, and then we will need to use some of our young players. Which Carlo is an expert in developing.

I am a manu fan and i say fair play to aguero if he goes chelsea he is a quality player and chelsea are a quality team. we would have to make some special transfers to beat chelsea to the premierleague this season. Funny that, i said at the start of the season that liverpool fans think they win the league but i only see chelsea as a threat and look whats happened. liverpool have proved that without alonso and with gerrard and torres getting injured there not the same team i wouldnt be surprised to see mascherano go and the end of the season.
RaNE - November 19th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
Jed im sure Aguero does want to play champions league and why wouldnt he but of course id beileve a Mr.Aguero would also like to win the champions something he isnt really promised at chelsea because unlike the manu and the liverpools Chelsea is a english league and cup team not a european one and there record in europe and england agree with me
Jed - November 19th, 2009 at 5:44 pm
funny that we have knocked u out 2 years imn a row….shame we wont have the same privelege this year….QF, F, SF is hardly a poor record in europe
RaNE - November 19th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
Well and good at putting the team out of a champions league But failing to win is a too big a jump for chelsea but angered by this id like to also extend my point on your money issue. Come on with money like that anyteam could win anything
anonymous - November 19th, 2009 at 6:55 pm
i am 100% sure that arsenal will win someting this year and i thinnk that something will be the FA cup and the……………wait for it……………Premier League!! i gaurantee they will win one of these two
Retryboy - November 19th, 2009 at 6:58 pm
Sure when chelsea got the ban and decided to appeal they were warned that doing so they are more likely to have the ban extended to 3 years. They can do what they want they buy their team season to season, the whole team is 30+ not just the strikers. They have no interest in developing youth. 2/3 year ban will put them right back where they belong whether its this season or not.
RaNE - November 19th, 2009 at 9:12 pm
As long as manu win Nothing id be happy if we fail we will bring them with us
anonymous - November 20th, 2009 at 6:47 am
I’d have to agree. Kun will do much better at Liverpool and I think he’d fit in better there too.

i dont think i need to comment anymore the rest of the anfield lot did it for me, and jed you really think liverpool wont play champs league football for the next 5 years? seriously?
chelsea to win nothing this season i still think arsenal to win the league, and IF we qualify for the champs league i tip all our players to come fit at the right time and us to go on to win it, you know its our style to do that we seen it happen before.

Theres more chance of knitting snot than Aguero gooing to Chelsea. Hicks and Gillett will cash in on Torres and mascherano for a joint £120m.. benitez will then walk and take a job at Real Madrid, the board will then appoint Mourinho in summer selling him the job on the fact that if he takes over at Man U he will always be in Fergies shadow, however at Liverpool he could be a legend responsible for bringing the glory days back to Liverpool… He will be given the funds from torres and masch to build his own team… Aguero will come to us then along with others as every player would love too play for “the special one”!… yes gillet and hicks want money but they know they can get this by winning the league and champions league and win the fans over in the process and sell for a tidy profit… this is the only way as nothing will happen under Rafa there isnt enough trust from ther board.
Danski_LFC9 - November 22nd, 2009 at 4:58 pm
I agree with anonymous, not the first time ive heard this and makes sense although hate to see Torres Leave… that guy has skills to pay the bills!!! although be interesting to see how much better Aguero could get under Mourinho!!
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
He wil go to Chelsea, Torres is the best striker but look at Drogba n Anelka. Anelka works hard n Drogba scores. We have a better defence and Midfield and our keepers are as good as each other in different areas.
Chelsea for The Prem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anonymous - December 20th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
Drogba>Torres
Lampard>Gerrard
and the rest of liverpool is just shit
anonymous - January 20th, 2010 at 11:29 pm
Danski you agree with anonymous but look how Man U have ended up they won the premier league last season, got 80 mil for ronaldo yet they’re still 700million in debt you fag. Chances are we wont sign nothing in the summer and it’s gonna be a three horse race between Arsenal, Manu U and Chelsea. Aguero is an immense young talent which ancelotti might be ok at developin – arsene wenger would definitely make him a star but rafa benites/ fat waiter just take a look at ryan babel. But yes ancelottis eyebrow is a bit weird.
anonymous - January 20th, 2010 at 11:31 pm
Plus mourinho hates Liverpool if he comes back to england he’d go to MAN U, and he’d probably get them to win a whole lot of stuff.
