Donavan Ried - November 22nd, 2009 at 11:30 am
A largely disappointing game for supporters and neutrals a like …… the game failed to get started first half and yet more enforced changes although the one with Agger for Kyrgiakos did not turn out to bad as he kept Adebayor quite in their encounters for most of the match …..
Yet an again Rafa’s insistence on “Zonal Marking” proves to be Liverpool’s undoing ……
In fairness to Rafa I can’t blame him for this lose. Although I can again question his choice of players….
When ever I see N’gog up front I question our ability to score. His first touch is often poor and he seems to want an eternity on the ball. Can’t really turn players. Does he even know how to strike the ball first time? …. And yet another example why we need a quality striker
Alberto Aquilani…. I am beginning to think that this guy is a long way from being fit, and that the only reason that Rafa puts him on the bench is to Justify the boss spending so much money on him … If not why not play him?…. He risks having Benayoun, Aurelio, and Riera on the bench and plays Gerrard all players carrying injuries so why hold back Alberto Aquilani? ….….
There is no longer any heart or fire in the team, the Supporters can sense this. Even through some of the worse times Anfield has never been so subdued …..
At the end of the day a point was more than we deserted, so I count us lucky to get that …….

Starting to be the same thing with liverpool attack and attack then when we score one then sit back till the other team take the lead.
Yh we do need another WC striker but ngog is the 2nd best weve got hes young and can still become a vgd st. Krygiakos did ok for a change.
As always we where unlucky to get 2 injured players in 20 mins. And that meant that gerrard had to play through cramps and aquilani wasnt able to come on.

Morning donovan…sure those comments seem familiar lol the way i see it rafa again broke up our strongest centre-back partnership showing little respect to carragher in doing so and even less to the talents of stephen darby a top quality, natural right back. Not even having him on the bench or ayala but the dodgy greek compounded the error, kyrgiakos again looked good until he had something to do then he cost us a goal. Despite having aquilani available rafa didn’t want to ditch his 2 defensive midfielders for a bit of creativity and balance again preferring a grafter in lucas. Kuyt was again terrible but he is one of those to whom form doesn’t matter to rafa. So as always we were left with 2 players capable of creating anything in gerrard and babel/benayoun and no width. City offered nothing, no ambition and were terrible. In a league where all the top teams have dropped points we are still closer to the relegation zone than the top. We are in serious danger of dropping out of the top four and losing our best players as well as more quality young talent. Rafa is incapable of learning we need to forget the past, judge him on this season, he has to go.
...samlfc.... - November 22nd, 2009 at 11:56 am
we were lucky to have a point from this game…..and i still think we need a striker and a right winger as i think their essential! we don’t need defenders of midfielders we are well equiped for that because of reserves/youngsters. but i doubt Rafa will bother ith them and get another midfielder or defender as thats usually the case.
We are going down a hill which is very hard to climb back up and when Liverpool finally win a game most people will probs go ‘yes we are back to winning ways and everything will be ok and Rafa is the right person for the job’ well i’m saying this in advance and its when we finally do win a game it will be great obviously but we would have to win the next 10 games afterwards if we want to catch up with Chelsea (which seems impossible) and also Rafa shouldn’t be classed as the right man for the job if wins one game!! this happened against Man utd, everyone was hating him then loved him and now hate him again….some people need to make their minds up .it doesn’t matter if you hate him love him or not bothered by who is incharge as long as the team does well (like me) just don’t swap and change your minds

Well off out speak to you both late …. Have a good /great day …..

well even though zonal marking seems not to be helping us, i think if we had someone marking the posts the ade’s ball would have been cleared of the line. how can we be marking the zone and leave out the most important part it’s just crazy.
anonymous - November 22nd, 2009 at 12:30 pm
not suprised by the draw.
we need to change the whole squad!!! just keep torres, gerrard, poor unlucky reina, aurelio, mascherano, aquilani, benayoun. the rest get rid of them! before 2 years we had the best defending in epl and now we’re even worse than pompy. i dont think can change, we gave him faaaaar too many chances and last chance will be the champions league which we’re on the edge of leaving, and skrtel shd sit on the bench coz the 2 goals came from his mistakes.
I AM FRUSTRATED WITH THIS TEAM!!!

well boys, not long now! “give a fool enough rope…… the owners wont put up with this, its costing them money! CL qualification money pays the interest…… we know these good ole boys wont want to spend thier own money! and remember everything is linked, position= $, $ = stars, stars = fans, fans = $. $ = position.

kermit here – glad to say i watched the same match as you guys,we hardly desered a point , not desire in the middle of the field , gerrard woeful, benayoun how could he be fitter than alberto?, dispppointed that babel had to go off , i think he has city troubled early on, tevez mauled us second half , we should have splashed the cash on him at the time, excellent footballer a million miles better than kuyt, lucas jetlagged, mascherano great first half not sure he was actually playing secnd half, the greek did quite okay , skrtel- adebayor is 6 ft black dude , how fucking hard is he to lose in the box!!!!!!!!!!, its been a while since i saw us get run over in midfield, but yesterday we did , thank god hughes was stoopid enough to leave tevez on the bench for the first half.
worst performance i ve seen in the premier league this season, i n my opinio even worse than the fullham game ,m which was also embarrassing, i dont mind losing games , i dont even mind dropping points n draws, what i dont like is seeing us outplayed out thought and out fought, that city team looked like the top four club and it is slightly worrying that they can come to anfield and boss us around with such ease
like donovan this time i can t blame rafa , but i dar4e say even if he had three subs available he wouldnt have made changes until city went 2-1 up, is it so hard to see the tide of the game turning when we were 1-0 up and to implement changes at that stage instead of waiting for city to score, i called the city goals just mins before they actually scored yesterday, if i can see it coming then why can t rafa, i am not a happy bunny,
sorrry rafa but you out , someone better in, someone who will get the best from babel, which is an utterly ridiculous situation at this stage
we have possibly the finest most threatening footballer in the league so low in confidence and limited to ten mins every third week. it s an absolute disgrace., time for some changes. gerrard looks totally disillusioned to me and thats not normal for him
strange things are afoot and the circle k ted
anonymous - November 22nd, 2009 at 1:25 pm
First off we deserved to win the game so i dont know how you think we got more then we deserved. Aquiliani would of played but we had to make two forced subs because yet again we picked up injuries. Its ashame even the Rafa haters out there have to admit the injuries were getting this season is ridiculous & unfair any team in the league would be struggling if they were getting the injuries we r all the time. Its not just about having qualty back up as some will argue, the teams changing that much week in week out players arent getting time to gel on the pitch.
Id start looking at the medical team we have r they doing a good enough job?
Retryboy - November 22nd, 2009 at 1:33 pm
Morning sam..its not a question of hating rafa he is a good man who cares about liverpool. He has good points but for me the bad points outweigh the good. He gives us glimpses like playing babel on the right at west ham, winning the game for us and playing kelly in the champions league. Then he never plays babel there again despite kuyts terrible form and instead of trusting darby rafa moves our best centre back to right back twice so he doesn’t even learn off his successes never mind his failures. We have to be realistic the title is well and truly gone and with the games in hand we are likely to have spurs and city 4/5 points ahead of us for fourth. I believe we have the squad at the moment but if rafa stays much longer more quality will leave.
anonymous - November 22nd, 2009 at 1:34 pm
Donavan/ Retryboy
I have got to say that i went to the game yesterday and for the amount of money city have spent they did not impress me, their best player was steven ireland. If we had spent that money the press would be all over us like a rash
Ok got to agree with Rafa after the game when the players went off the balance of the team was not the same.
Kuyt had a very poor game
Stevie was not fit i’m sure he has a chronic injury
insua is dodgy and lacks pace and carra is not a right back anymore ok he filled in for Johnson and did ok
Skirtel looks nervy lossed his confidence
As for Rafa i’m undecided on his tenure at the club he was to cautious yesterday, defensively we looked vunruble.
I have said before that the team Rafa inhereted in 2004 who would you want in the side today ? was it a good team then? The players that have left have they gone on to better things ? Has Rafa had the hardest job out of the top four clubs to put a side together with the money available.
Do you think that the time Rafa has had at the club as he had the best support at boardroom level ?
As he improved us a Team ? are we a better team now ? are we living in he past are expectations to high ?.
How long can we rely on stevie G 1,2.3.4 seasons he is getting on
If it looks like we are not going to make the top four Should we just rely on the kids because we cant afford expensive signings thats for sure?
We can only now go for the following top 4 europa cup and FA cup how do you think we will fair ?
If we get could get some signings i would say a least we need a world class right winger and a stricker.
And defensively we need somone more commanding.
Something now needs to happen at this great football club what or who i’m totally not sure
Regards
Pete
kopman - November 22nd, 2009 at 1:36 pm
Come on the game wasnt all bad points , i thought kyrgiakos had a decent game, and the first half we had alot of possesion, we just didnt have anybody there to finish off the attacks ngog seemed to struggle but im sure he will get better i could tell what he was trying to do he just failed to do it. after our goal we knew city would pile the pressure on.
i do agree zonal marking isnt the way to go, i know some managers swear by it but it doesnt seem to work as well for us as it does for other teams.
would of liked to see aquilani but i see why rafa put on auralio on coz insua seemed to be having a hard time with shaun wright philips so he needed the cover so it was either put on aquilani and go for another goal or put on auralio and try to prevent another one.
all in all i dont think it was all bad but it could of been better, i think rafa needs to address the zonal marking problem, another problem i feel was babel, i know he took a knock but he didnt even look like he wanted to be there and that annoyed me quite a bit, gerrard told him to get up and tried to run it off and he couldnt of cared less he just wanted to go home and bash his x box or sumthin, i say let him go back to holland.
Ryan Babel - November 22nd, 2009 at 1:44 pm
Certain things that are really annoying me with liverpool:
1)Zonal fucking marking,
2)Playing Kuyt all the time even when he offers nothing but the odd important goal(so then play him in the UCL)
3) Taking the lead then sitting back completely and trying to counter attack (only works with facst WC players and weve only got Torres and Gerrard for that maybe aquilani. Not with Ngog,Kuyt ect.)
4) Injuries
5) The Money situation
we need a makeover: Backup tactics, more attacking flare when we are without torres and with him sometimes players like aguero/Elia/Mata ect even though we cant afford that that is what we need,Man marking, aquilani to start playing……any more?
kopman - November 22nd, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Ryan , i think you hit the nail on the head these are the things that need sorting, also i think something needs to happen with lucas, yes he isnt playing as bad as he was but he still isnt so great hes just ok. i dont know what rafa sees in him at all i think we should sell him back to a brazilian team seen as they love him so much see how much we can get for him.
Retryboy - November 22nd, 2009 at 2:17 pm
Pete would have Warnock and riise over dossena and aurelio. Hyppia over kyrgiakos, Finnan over degen, murphy over kuyt. Gerrard and carragher were already here. Not disputing he had to buy and sell to re-build the squad he has spent £240m though and we have a quality squad. Rafa is just too negative, doesn’t pick enough creative players, refuses to change anything no matter how obvious. Zonal marking has been a problem for 5 years he won’t change it now. When you take out the Gk, defenders, 2 defensive midfielders and workhorse kuyt leaves you 2 places for creativity and 1 striker when EVERY OTHER TEAM has 3 creative 2 strikers or 4 creative 1 striker. Don’t want to see babel, mascherano, nemeth, pacheco, ecclestone leaving because rafa only plays a couple of creative players. Alonso, Keane, bellamy, Warnock, Finnan were good enough rafa’s man-management isn’t though.
anonymous - November 22nd, 2009 at 2:42 pm
This shows money doesn’t buy success, City have not taken the steps villa and spurs have taken. I would rather have Vermalin and Gallas than Toure and Lescot. I also wood prefer Arshavin, Van Persie and Fabergras than The Striker who shall not be named, Ireland and Barry. Wouldn’t mind Given or Torres though. As a Gooner I’m routing 4 Villa 2 get 4th spot. I think a new striker may help some one like Dzeko or how bout agbongalahor oh that would be fun. No disrespect to city but you need chemistry. Money doesn’t buy you love, Arsenal r now settled, Chelsea and United hav had their team 4 years. U need 2 start wonning games you have too many egos and not enough desire. Don’t arrogant I won’t still early hopefully this is arsenals season but anything could happen hey the way its going sunderland could be 4th by 2010 u never know
anonymous - November 22nd, 2009 at 2:51 pm
kermit here again, i also am not a rafa hater , i am just very aware of his limitations as a manager, he may be better as a director of football than a manager with someone with more balls on the sidelines that will make changes to change the course of games before we concede goals.
rafa has done a pretty good job since he arrived at anfield, but i hae had the same problems with him for several season. poor reading of how a game is going and lack of an ability to make key decision to affect the course of a game. i actually think his reading of the game is worse than mine and most of yours. yesterday rafa was saved by two early enforced subs, because we cannot be here condemning him for hs lack of making appropriate changes when city started to dominate, because i am certain he would not have made them even if he had three subs left. aand i like many of you would have been left so fucking frystrated watching knowing changes are needed and knowing they will come but they will come way too late.
capello in
anonymous - November 22nd, 2009 at 3:00 pm
innever understood why warnock was sold, that guy would have died for liverpool. he is a mature form of insua
tevez is quality
robbie keane is quality, was played out of position and as a lone striker mostly at anfield, was rafa determined to make him a failure, i still didnt see keane as a failure during his anfield spell. foolhardy to sell him last xmas
and i can see exactly what benitez sees in lucas, but unfortunately for this game lucas had had a twelve hour flight from brazil the night before the game,
lucas is a lot better than he shows
i read mascherano given man of the match by the mirror journalist this morning and they put skrtel in team of the week. i wonder which match the were watching,
the man of the match was tevez, by a mile
we totally lacked any pace in our attack yesterday after babel went off , no speed on either wing and it was all too easy and predicatble for city to defend against
anonymous - November 22nd, 2009 at 3:01 pm
sorry rafa i commend you for what you have done , but repeatedly making and not learning from the same errors means you have to go

Anon at 3.00(kermit?) Mascherano did his job as always protected the back four, stopped anybody getting through the midfield. Lucas does look better when he is played further forward and not doing the same job but a lot worse as mascherano. He is still though nowhere near the level of a gerrard or aquilani creatively and defensively mascherano is on a different planet. Moving gerrard further back and having nemeth, pacheco, benayoun further forward would be better than having lucas in the side and mascherano, aquilani, gerrard would be awesome.
anonymous - November 22nd, 2009 at 3:26 pm
anon at 1 34 made some good points
defensively we were very vulnerable yesterday , every time city attacked they looked dangerous and like they could slice us open at any point
i am not understanding the aquilani injury situation, if he after being training for a montj isnt fitter than benayoun who hasnt trained for ten days , then something is wrong, you could see his disappointment at not getting a game , he looked really well and really healthy yesterday
also agree that something is wrogn with gerrard, this season is fucked , i d send both torres and gerrard for surgery now and get them fixed properly instead of patching them up to play, give aquilani in gerrards spot and give babel a go in torres spot up front along for a few months, give him ten games ina row that he needs, and if he doesnt prove himself worthy then sell him.
kuyt , is back to his frustrating very fatigued looking self, i think the guy needs a decent rest, like three to four off from football, he looks jaded, so give him the time off.
benayoun wasnt fit yesterday gerrard wasnt fit , kuyt was knackered , ngog looked inexperienced and was isolated, no midfield creativty , too many long balls pumped forward.
i d seriously give gerrard and torres the operations they need to get themselves right again.
we are running out of players, if babel plays up front and kuyt is rested who do we play right side of midfield. i d be giving some of the young lads their opportnity now, pachecho for example, and ecclestone maybe up front.
unfortunately i dont think spearing is ever going to be good enough , he d make a good premiership player for someone like bolton but not for us
surely nemeths loan deal must be cancelled now
anonymous - November 22nd, 2009 at 3:30 pm
i hope v dont qualify for champions league next round or top four next season so there s no miney to peper over the crackss… then yanks will go bankrupt and F**k off, then new owners in and then…Finally.. The most STUBBORN ARROGANT ZONAL MARKING, PLAYING PLAYERS LIKE BABEL IN WRONG POSITIONS, KILLING THEIR SPIRIT AND NO SUBS IMAGINATION… RAFA OUT!!!
Ryan Babel - November 22nd, 2009 at 3:30 pm
thanks kopman
and yh only really want lucas to play games like carling cup.
anonymous - November 22nd, 2009 at 3:33 pm
kermit here
hey retro,
grim day today, it feels like i am dissecting the aftermath of yesterday.
pachecho and nemeth yeah call them up, even ecclestone, if these young guys are good enough they need to be given a go now , esp as half the team is injured
sort t n g out properly
i m glad to see aquilani is itching to play, i think thats a good sign, though dumping him into the merseyside derby might not be wise. hopefully he ll play against debrecen from the startand get a good seventy mins under his belt
playing aurelio left wing is pointless to me, he d have been better off sending dossena on, at least dossena likes attacking.
we ll win the uefa cup this year, that will save rafa his job
we ll beat benfica or someone in the final and it ll wallpaper over the cracks to keep us limping along impotently for another few seasons
anonymous - November 22nd, 2009 at 3:35 pm
i want lucas to play all the time now because i want gerrard to go and have surgery and fix his groin problem once and for all
and play the midfield trio of masch lucas and aquilani
anonymous - November 22nd, 2009 at 3:38 pm
yeah to anon at 330
i dont think we will qualify, i think fiorentina will beat lyon out of pure desire
no matter what lyon say their players dont have to risk injury by really battling to go through so fiorentina will qualify and we will go to the uefa cup with everton, our best chance of a trophy this year along with the fa cup
kermit - November 22nd, 2009 at 3:42 pm
our injured and unfit players list is ridiculous
gerrard torres babel benayoun riera johnson agger aurelio dossena , kuyt will be added to this if he isn t rested soon,
thinks lfc needs a good water aerobics class or some proper yoga sessions
Anfield Faithful - November 22nd, 2009 at 4:11 pm
You’ve got to feel for babel. When he eventually started got injured. Still don’t quite agree with him on the left looks a real threat on the right but still he atleast started for a change. Stevie quite clearly isn’t relishing playing in this midfield without alonso nd looked frustrated in first half. Only benni, masch really looked like there usual self. Lucas, what a woeful miss for him. But overall we didn’t deserve to win purely bcoz of tactics displayed by rafa. Kermit was spot on, it was almost as if rafa was waiting for city to score their 2nd to make a move. I know 2 injuries really hampered our substitute strategy but everyone would have thought of seeing aqua in 2nd half than aurelio. He himself was wondering what he was doing on the bench. I still strongly belive that 4th spot is well within our reach but if these holding tactics are to continue god knows what’ll happen
Retryboy - November 22nd, 2009 at 4:13 pm
Half of that list are fit kermit. Another thing i don’t understand is why benitez didn’t get torres in for the op at the international break. Recovery time is supposed to be between 1/2 months looks like he is going to miss that without even having the op! I can actually see lyon getting something in florence don’t think rafa’s poor attempts at mind games saying that they have to restore pride in french football after the henry handball will do much for their motivation, probably antagonise them if anything. Even if we do sneak through it will be papering over the cracks totally agreed on that.
Anfield Faithful - November 22nd, 2009 at 4:40 pm
Yep retry benitez do seem to be handling these injury players in a most bizzare manner. Benni although recovered quickly through that planceta thing but still hasn’t trained since the treatment is preferred over aqua who is training for almost 4 weeks. Gerrard he says is almost fully fit though his performance is not even close to his usual standards. Torres situation you described aptly. Wonder what will ryan babel situation would be
kermit - November 22nd, 2009 at 4:52 pm
yeah torres should have been gone for the op, totally agree thought it at the time and still think it now, its once again benitez s fault for not having brought in adequate cover so he feels he cant do without torres for 2 months.
and aquilani did seem to be pissed off at not being brought on. lucas also was obviously jaded from his flight from brazil, but rafawill keep him in there even though he is tired , so fans then get on lucas s back again, same as fulham
good one rafa, fuck the kids confidence again just as he starts to come good
does anyone know how serious babels injury is, because i d prefer him to start than ngog
kermit - November 22nd, 2009 at 4:53 pm
i am also sick of listenign to tomkins lick rafa s arsehole on our website
anonymous - November 22nd, 2009 at 5:04 pm
Liverpool FC Danny
Rafa got his tactics wrong yet again!!! When we score just 1 goal he makes them sit back and gives Man city 66% possesion and uses zonal marking and uses two holding midfielders at home.
W e shuold get rid of Rafa and bring in Hiddink because he’s looking to leave Russia since they are out of the World Cup.
kermit - November 22nd, 2009 at 5:05 pm
we should have bought darren bent at the start of the season m he is the only dtriker that i know that consistently scores can play up front alone ( thats how he played at charlton) and can play in a partnership.though we woldnt get him now
i think rodallega is an option from wigan
kermit - November 22nd, 2009 at 5:07 pm

Retryboy - November 22nd, 2009 at 5:08 pm
Anfield faithful-Like you said you have to feel for babel he finally gets a start that his sub performances have deserved even if it was the poisoned chalice of the left wing where he can never be the world star he could be on the right. Lets hope it is only a minor knock. You are right as well benayoun, gerrard both bigger risks than aquilani. Have thought that rafa is using aquilani’s recovery as an excuse to keep fielding a more defensive team and doesn’t want to leave out lucas this backs up the theory.
kermit - November 22nd, 2009 at 5:11 pm
RAFA OUT, i m swinging into the rafa out camp, i dont think he can do it with us anymore, i dont think he is good enough, he is good but not good enough

Would have Mancini myself- plays great football, young, available now can handle the big names. 3 italian championships and 6 domestic italian cups in 6 years in management is an awesome record and the most likely to want a long term project in my eyes. He also significantly has been learning english and has made himself available by freeing himself from his inter contract. Ideal in every way.

donavan you are a c u n t.
you say you cant blame rafa for this loss but then go onto say things about him and our players (which sounds like you do blame rafa for the loss). it was an awesome header and bad marking from skrtel and zonal marking was not to blame.
you must be the only supporter (cant believe im calling you one) who thinks that we have no fire or heart. we didnt have no passion when we played united did we? dont you realise how many injuries we have? we have about 6 first team regulars unavailable and you expext us to be the best team in the world. you need to be realistic and a draw isnt the end of the world.
also anfield has gotton so quite lately due to fans like you.
Danski_LFC9 - November 22nd, 2009 at 5:51 pm
I saw a guy had posted this on the chelsea to get aguero article and kinda makes sence!! what do you lot reckon? Hicks and Gillett will cash in on Torres and mascherano for a joint £120m.. benitez will then walk and take a job at Real Madrid, the board will then appoint Mourinho in summer selling him the job on the fact that if he takes over at Man U he will always be in Fergies shadow, however at Liverpool he could become a legend responsible for bringing the glory days back to Liverpool… He will be given the funds from torres and masch sales to build his own team… Aguero will come to us then along with others as every player would love to play for “the special one”!… yes gillet and hicks want money but they know they can get this by winning the league and champions league and win the fans over in the process and sell for a tidy profit… this is the only way as nothing will happen under Rafa there isnt enough trust from the board..
now i think the signings have been fine but I think Jose could get more out of players like Babel, Ngog and Riera, maybe even more out of the likes of Gerrard, Reina and Benayoun!!! When a team has a manager like Jose Mourinho you dont need torres to win the league… having said that I really dont want Torres to go elsewhere but a manager like Jose wont come without money to spend!!

benitez a good coach but has reached his limits, not acceptable for liverpool to be playing in this manner. we should destroy teams not to look to get ones on a break.to many points lost under benitez not good he must go now this type of performances would not be tollerated at any other top flight team so why should we be patient anymore and watch another season fade away with dissapointment.this is tottally blady ridiculous, benitez out and all the other average players that shouldnt have the honour to play for liverpool! more than frustrated really upseting and rafa is stubborn and is destroying our club get out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You’re welcome Danski i’m the same wouldn’t matter if we were in the blue square league but i believe in the players we have and especially in the youngsters don’t want to see that talent wasted. Nemeth and pacheco can be as good as fowler and owen were for us but never will under benitez because they are battling for one of 3 creative places in a rafa team. Gerrard and torres automatically take up 2 and you have yossi, aquilani. This defensive system will never get us anywhere and nor will a team full of lucas/kuyt type players.

Danski_LFC9 - November 22nd, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Retroboy I agree completely, you see all these different players coming up through the ranks at other teams but we seem to let them rot instead of giving them the chance they deserve… Nemeth and Pacheco are great examples Nemeth is better than Ngog and for some reason gets loaned out to a second rate Greek team instead of gaining experience in the prem where its needed, also imagine what could be done with the likes of babel and spearing if they had a manager coaching them that knows how to get the best out of them… I really think babel would have cracked the EPL by now if Rafa had played him in his natural position from day 1 and linked him and Torres as a partnership when they both arrived instead of playing el nino up front alone. We are the only team consistently in the top 4 who play this way and Rafa wonders why we weve only finished 2nd at best. Also if our LB and RB are going to be so attacking, we need our midfield to drop back a bit more instead of leaving us open at the back… as for set pieces what is going on with zonal marking, clearly its not working…. if it wasnt for Reina we’d be bottom half already!! Something has to be done.

you really are a dope arent you mate. can you please tell me “these different players coming through the ranks at other teams” because i certainly cant. who are they? or do they just exist in your very little brain.
insua = given a chance (took it)
kelly = given a chance (took it)
spearing = given chance (didnt take it)
plessiss = given chance (didnt take it)
ngog = who knows?
and for you to say nemeth id better than ngog is just childish. do you see them evey day in training? NO,NO,NO
To hell with it why dont you ask the americans to be our manager free of charge?
Retryboy - November 22nd, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Isaac you blinkered fool- insua(probably the least impressive of the defence that won the reserve league featuring darby and kelly got his chance due to injuries to aurelio and dossena who was signed when insua was ready) kelly (got his chance because johnson was injured and degen was injured when the champions league squad was picked being that centre back is his favoured position kyrgiakos being signed over him and ayala and played ahead of them when they are miles better proves our point not yours) spearing played well when given the chance in a decent team(had no chance in the tactical nightmare at Sunderland) just because you only hear about players when rafa picks them doesn’t mean we do some of us watch the reserve games and nemeth, pacheco we have watched for years. We are talking about the creative players getting no chance as well because rafa doesn’t play creative players 4 defenders, 2DCM, kuyt,Gk leaves 3 places do the maths! How many carling cup games have kelly, ayala got(will use players you have seen) none. Why? You have seen how good they are. Because rafa’s rubbish like kyrgiakos, voronin were getting games. Nemeth, pacheco, Darby, kelly, ayala, are awesome players ecclestone, mavinga, amoo all looking great too ecclestone has just turned down a new contract because he can’t see him getting a decent shot under benitez. You have proved before you know nothing about our young players and have never of them until rafa picks them so don’t even try commenting on them. Danski you are spot on about the youngsters and babel.

(Warren Bloggs – November 22nd, 2009 at 8:26 pm)
Evening, Donovan, Retryboy and all.
Firstly, Donovan your post at ‘November 22nd, 2009 at 1:52 am’ was completely spot on mate, i agree indefinetly and think this is the best approach come January. We will have some money possibly to fund a move for Kjaer or Elia who we have been rumoured quite alot recently. Yet, Rafa would be more wise to look at any possible loan moves as you say, there is quality out there. Only read this morning in the Sunday Mirror that we are apperantly looking to get Van Nistelrooy on loan, what do you think? (my opinion is split on the matter).
I am as you well know still (relatively) a Rafa supporter, and i have my reasons for such, but i agree with Retryboy in that if he were to be sacked then i would like to see someone like Mancini in. My only fear in such an accuisition would be his european form?
As for the Aquilani situation, i do beleive if it wasn’t for the early injuries to Agger and Babel, which obviously changed the game somewhat then we would have seen Aquilani make a cameo in the second half. I think it was a case of Rafa not willing to take a risk, really is that simple guys.
Retryboy - November 22nd, 2009 at 9:06 pm
Few technical glitchs lol sorry people
colden - November 22nd, 2009 at 9:08 pm
For those of you calling for Rafa’s head, at least wait until we have most of our 1st 11 back, and then assess his performance.
We started against City without 5 of our strongest 11 (Johnson, Aurelio, Aquilani, Yossi/Riera, Torres. We then had another playing out of position (Carra), then after 5 mins another gets injured. That left us with just 4 of our strongest team playing in their correct positions, and only 1 of our strongest back 4 (and he was playing out of position)
It’s a good shout to use Darby rather than Carra at RB – he’s solid & dependable (but again, not all that attacking) – at least this would have given us more stability in the centre.
Yes, we’ve been leaking goals this season, but for those comparing this season with last, we have used 10 players in our back 4 this season in premiership & CL. This in the most important area of the team to have stability – understanding between all of back 4.
The crocks rehab centre (better known as our bench!) contained several creative players, and you could argue some of them should have started. However, the thinking could have been, keep them on the bench & only risk them if you have to – obviously backfired with the early subs. There could have been some medical advice that they should only play part of the game.
Having said all that, what the hell was Skrtel doing for both goals – 1st goal obvious, 2nd goal trying to run the ball out by the corner & letting Tevez take it off him far too easily. And Kuyt………. time for a rest!!
Totally agree with Retryboy about Pacheco. If Aquilani is still not fit, drop Gerrard back into midfield (something a lot of us have said all season), and play either Yossi or Pacheco behing the striker. Also saw Pacheco playing in midfield a couple of weeks back – could certainly do a good job there for us.
I’m as frustrated as anyone abour our current position (I’m old enough to remember the glory days of the 70’s!!!), but lets keep behind the team, and hope our injury situation improves quickly.
Warren Bloggs - November 22nd, 2009 at 9:12 pm
Well said Colden, nice repomse.
Danski_LFC9 - November 22nd, 2009 at 9:37 pm
Cheers Retroboy, glad someone see’s where im coming from…Issac it doesnt matter how these guys perform in training its what they do on the day that counts! Rafa rants about how good lucas is in training but then looks out of depth during real game play! None of the players you have mentioned have been given the shot Gerrard, Fowler and Owen were given when they came up through the ranks (they came on for at least 10-20 mins most games before becoming regulars)… id play spearing ahead of lucas anyday, and give him some experience! he’s young talented, english and scouse and could work to be the next captain… I think Rafa could have used his head a bit more in the summer transfer market.. we lost arbeloa and Alonso and gained Johnson, and injured CM and an old CB… When we could have got Owen on a free he would have chosen us over Man U and would have got more game time, as well as any of the Fringe players at Real as part of the Xabi deal (higuain, VDV, Nistelrooy, Saviola maybe even Raul).. I think everyone will agree that had it been any other manager our squad would look slightly different.
anonymous - November 22nd, 2009 at 10:56 pm
retryboy
you are the one who said that we should go and get sam allarydyce as our manager so that shows you are not a proper fan and are very very clueless.
if you read my post propoerly you would of realised that i was saying that players do get their chance and was not saying how they got it. i know insua hasnt been good enough and i think that all of our youth players arent up for it.
you look at ramsey for arsenal he is head and shoulders above any of our youth players. you need to stop being deluded and start to realise that NONE of them are going to be the next torres or gerrard. i know you are going to say that pacheco is good enough but seriously he is about 5ft 2 and has no pace whatsoever. how would he survive in the prem? nemeth again has no pace and is very small for a modern day strker. kelly looks very comfertable and if i was to pick a player to come in when someone was injured then he would probably be the only one capable.
danski
those youth players you say havent played in any real competitive matches and you saying the should be playing in the prem week in week out? come on man!
has spearing been man of the match in a liverpool v man u match recently? NO, lucas was and now is his time to show that he is capable of playing for lfc.
why would you want owen?
he aint exactly banging them in is he. after his betrayal i cant believe you came out with that statement.
isaac hunt - November 22nd, 2009 at 10:57 pm
that was my comment above
Retryboy - November 22nd, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Colden..respect your opinion and the way you put it across i still maintain that in every single game we have played we have had enough quality available to win. Aquilani was fit weeks ago and certainly less of a risk than gerrard, benayoun so the only answer is rafa wants 2 sitting midfielders as you pointed out earlier on in the season we wanted gerrard dropped back and benayoun in the hole rafa wouldn’t do it. Too attacking for him. I do think you hit the nail on the head with darby too the reason he gets over looked is because he isn’t a wing back style player but defensively he is our best right back. Isn’t this totally backwards? If we had a normal attacking winger like babel on the right instead of kuyt we wouldn’t need our defenders to provide the width and they could just get forward at a normal amount making us defensively stronger. Also its only been for a month or so we have had bad injuries and we have only ever had one striker missing that shouldn’t be a big deal. United can change half the team and get a win i don’t believe they have a better squad than us ferguson picks a better, more balanced team and sends them out with the belief they will rip the other team apart. Rafa’s approach is everyone keep it tight and wait for torres, gerrard, benayoun to get us the points. Agree that agger was a big loss for another reason whilst i still believe carragher is our best centre back i think agger is our most important because of the partnership you need one cultured centre back, one all action Hansen/Lawrenson, carragher/Hyppia, Vidic/ferdinand, terry/Carvalho they all compliment each other 2 all action doesn’t work as we saw with skrtel/carragher as well as being a left footer agger is the only cultured style centre back out of the experienced players skrtel/kyrgiakos was a disaster waiting to happen another reason why ayala would have been a much better option on the bench. Rafa always goes for experience over ability. voronin in the hole was crazy he is so far down the list for creativity!
Retryboy - November 22nd, 2009 at 11:46 pm
Ha ha isaac knew you would drag that up rather than try and argue about football with me- when i said that i knew noone would agree with me and said so. I rate allardyce as england’s best manager and if you look at the league table Blackburn are 4 points behind us with a game in hand having played a lot harder games than us. A manager who has actually taken over a squad in the relegation zone spent no money, not the £239m sort of no money that rafa has either. You measure success compared to the clubs O’Neill was amazing with leicester, soon as he left they got relegated. Redknapp did wonders with west ham look at him now. Allardyce kept bolton top 6 with nothing for years as soon as he left they have been fighting relegation, he was rated the best contender for the england job when the fa went for yes boy maclaren and he will be back on top of his game after the idiot Newcastle fans blotted his career and got themselves relegated in the process. That said mentioned his name once and you have gone on about it ever since yet the amount of rubbish you have spouted on here. Mancini is who i want and once again i don’t care who you see as a true fan you sad little man you know nothing about liverpool you hadn’t even heard of kelly before rafa picked him as you admitted before when you tried challenging me on the subject the only young players you knew where the ones rafa had played. Nemeth 30 goals in 35 internationals from under 17 to under 21 a goal every 2 games or better at every level he has played at. You insult players you know nothing about you aren’t a fan of liverpool you are a fan of rafa.
colden - November 22nd, 2009 at 11:58 pm
Hi Retryboy, agree with the comment about Aquilani – can’t understand why he hasn’t been given more opportunities to play. If he’s still not match fit, give him 60 mins in the reserves. However, I understood the reason for Rafa not bringing him on against City. We needed Aurelio to help Insua as Wright-Phillips was beginning to run the game. Also Insua & Aurelio play well together going forward (as they did towards the end), so a good option to use at the time.
Our biggest loss has been Torres, only because we have never replaced Keane. Couldn’t believe we didn’t get another striker in both transfer windows this year. Ngog will be good, but is nowhere near the finished article yet. He was brought in as ‘one for the future’. We need one for now! All the top teams have several striking options, the reason Man U can still win with several changes is that they have Rooney, Berbatov, Owen etc. We have Torres.
Isaac Hunt – Would have agreed with you at the start of last season about Pacheco’s height being a disadvantage, he was pushed off the ball too easily. However, he’s been standing in a growbag since then, and he’s 5′6″ to 5′7″ now & a heluva lot stronger. Dare I say, he is now similar in size & stature to Messi. I’m not saying he’s anywhere near as good (…….yet!), but he has a similar style of play, and is superb at free kicks.
Nemeth is small for a forward, but then so was Fowler, and Nemeth is only 1/2 inch smaller than Rush. He’s scored goals at all levels up to under 21 for his country, so it could be a case where size doesn’t matter, so long as he scores!!! He’s nearly 21 now, so he should be brought back asap (if poss) and given his chance on the bench at least.
Totally agree with your comment about Ramsey’s talent, but don’t forget that although he’s young, he had already played several games for Cardiff’s first team before Arsenal snapped him up. Like you, I wouldn’t want too many youngsters in the first team every week, but there should be a few on the bench, otherwise how are we to know whether they are good enough?
Retryboy - November 23rd, 2009 at 12:33 am
Comment being moderated isaac you are a joke you come on here insulting our youth players that you have never seen play and think you are a true fan. Nemeth has scored 30 in 35 games for hungary from under 17 to his 2 in 2 at under 21 this season he is 5′11 and will be a legend. You are a rafa fan not a liverpool fan. Colden you have no hope convincing him because the way isaac sees it is if rafa hasn’t picked them they aren’t good enough. Nobody has said to start all of them although nemeth i would as a perfect partner for torres who can score 20 a season and provide a hatful for el nino. The likes of kelly, darby, ayala, pacheco are massively superior to a lot of our squad players
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 1:23 am
time to look for a replacement.. hiddink, lippi, schuster anyone?
isaac hunt - November 23rd, 2009 at 7:36 pm
retryboy
its all right saying that nemeth will become a legend and score 20 goals a season but you dont realise that the goals that he has scored have NOT been in the PREMIER LEAGUE. i know he hasnt had a chance but still to say tha he will be a legend and score 20 a season is just mad. do you have a crystal ball mate?
it is the same every year, we see some players scoring goals in meaningless games and when they are needed they never produce. i hope as much as you that these players do become world beaters but i just cant see it happening.
Retryboy - November 23rd, 2009 at 8:30 pm
The way i see it his scoring record has earnt him that chance though. His all around play is even better, back heeled passes, assists, link up play and vision is amazing. Just saying that he is as impressive a young player as you get and voronin had proven he wasn’t good enough for the epl before so its less of a risk taking a chance on a talent like his than loaning him out and trusting voronin. I do think if we played 2 strikers he would still be here and it is another reason we should be using the carling cup for young talent not 30 year old squad players to bridge the gap. Everytime i think about what torres needs in a partner when the transfer rumours start every player that gets mentioned nemeth seems a more natural partner than. He has destroyed teams at whatever level he has played and under 21 international is a good level he deserves the chance and my belief is he can be the next fowler. Won’t happen if we never play 2 strikers though don’t think Robbie would have made much of a lone striker so he would have probably gone out on loan under benitez too we have to be more flexible with the formation especially in times of injury if we were then we could field stronger teams thats my view anyway
isaac hunt - November 23rd, 2009 at 8:39 pm
agree about voronin but you are getting over excited about nemeth
Retryboy - November 23rd, 2009 at 10:36 pm
Maybe isaac or maybe i am right we won’t know till he gets that chance. Its a lot of frustration coming from his performances in the reserves for a season, then he got loaned out and had an injury plagued last season, got himself fit and was banging them in at the end of last season and then pre-season scoring for the first team was massively disappointed to have to wait another year when voronin got kept and played and with all the striker problems we have he is again getting rave reviews, scoring for fun, one of the best players at the under 20 world cup, stepping up to under 21 and getting 2 in a game and 15 minutes before going off injured the frustration keeps building.
