Liverpool are reported to be lining up a January loan move for Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The former Manchester United striker is struggling to gain first team action at the Bernabeu, losing his spot in the side after the summer acquisitions of Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, with the later two in direct competition for places at the top of the pitch for Real.
This coupled with a string of injuries has meant that van Nistelrooy is fighting for his place in the Dutch World Cup squad, and needs first team action to remain in contention for the trip to South Africa.
Rafa Benitez could give the 33-year-old a new lease of life at Anfield, and the Daily Mirror reports that a short-term move is being prepared for January.
Van Nistelrooy has been courted by a string of Premier League clubs in recent months, with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City just two sides thought to be watching the veteran frontman. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
Well having just witnessed the ‘Jermain Defoe show’ I would hasten Rafa to offer a large sum of Hicks and Gillett’s cash to Tottenham but I don’t see Harry Redknapp entertaining any notion of a sale but perhaps Ruud Van Nistelrooy is an altogether more realistic target.
Yes we all know that Old Horse Face used to play for the enemy but we also know that he used to score goals for fun and when not injured he still is able of scoring with alarming regularity and is reportedly available for as little as £5m as Real Madrid look to trim their wage bill and remove all those who they consider ’surplus to requirements’.
We don’t have a plethora of options up front and as far as value for money is concerned such a move for the Dutch international would be a decent one in my view and whilst it is clearly only a short term solution to the problem he could also help teach the likes of Nemeth (please bring him back from Greece) and Ngog a thing or two.

yh would be gr8

lol this would be getting back at man united when they grasped our legend owen. Get van nistelrooy ans let’s se how man united would take it if we take one of their legends. GET HIM NOW

revenge on those mancs
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 12:07 am
would be ok but we’d be better getting a longer term investment like i don’t know ADRIANO!!!!! or give rafa his years salary and fuck him off and get a manager who can use the tools he’s got with out moaning about money blaming injuries or using the term ‘we showed character’ we didn’t we drew showing character would be finding it in you to give that little extra to win a match you needed win,
Retryboy - November 23rd, 2009 at 12:08 am
Sure van kistaboy used to score most of his goals from the supply of wingers and we don’t use them. He is a natural finisher and it wouldn’t take the place away from nemeth/ngog for too long so can see the worth. Need nemeth back too though as a natural partner to torres. Other thing is if he needs games for a world cup place when torres is fit he won’t have a chance couldn’t see him playing with torres.
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 12:22 am
its like a swap in the past between owen & nistelrooy.RVN will be the right man to be upfront for the reds while torres is recovering from injury.he scores heaps of goals during his manure career & still a scoring machine.he would have to step it up especially for the WC10 spot is up for grabs for the dutch team.the best place for him to go is ANFIELD.YNWA…..
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 12:38 am
He has a horses head no thanks
colden - November 23rd, 2009 at 12:49 am
Yes, it could work. Proven goalscorer, older & slower now, but won’t have lost the ability to score. Gives us another year to develop Nemeth & Ngog as second strikers, either alongside or as cover for Torres. Wouldn’t worry too much about him not getting too many games for LFC, as his chances are far greater with us than with the other 2 teams linked with him (Spurs & City), who each have at least 4 top class forwards!
Definitely need to strengthen our wings though (no matter who we get as CF in January …..if anyone!). Would like to see at least 1 new winger (Elia, Koman?), but give Babel a fair try on the right first (as others have previously suggested).

I am with Retryboy on this one ….
When i said a quailty striker i was think of someone the was in his early 20’s ….
Too old ….
Digger - November 23rd, 2009 at 1:15 am
i will be not happy if we sign him, this is morientes again, yes the guy is quality but he has no pace and will add nothing apart from the odd goal. why spend 5mill on him when we could pick up someone like benni mccarthy for around about the same cost if not less??? seems stupid he’s not playing…….. really unhappy if this goes thru as i think owen was a better option.,….
Digger - November 23rd, 2009 at 1:30 am
o’d prefer the brazilian ronaldo over horse face…. i hate this rumour
Digger - November 23rd, 2009 at 1:41 am
man how about henry??? ok he seems to prefer using his hands then his feet these days but again better than old horse face…..
Digger - November 23rd, 2009 at 1:56 am
ian rush i mean he can still do it right……please not horse face
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 2:21 am
Ok I suppose it wud be alrite until the summer but ino Liverpool are signing arshavin for £12 million + plessis and/or babel .I would prefer splashing out on someone young with talent like hunttelar or higuain or c.cole an we will also be signing one striker in the summer . . . Kun aguero ? You heard it first here macca123 !
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 4:16 am
retro boy is onto something, but until next summer i think he would be a good signing. He is proven which is key, therefore we know what we are getting
currently backup is not good enough. then in the summer we can think about a young top class striker.

THE CHOSEN ONE
for a free transfer yes a good option but not for 5 mil. id rather babel plays there to the end of season or one of our younger players be used as cover.
Lets give someone a good run upfront. as long as it isnt voronin then im happy .
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 10:10 am
i’d rather pay 5m for zaki he’s got prem experience is only about 24-25 and could partner torres or probably play on his own he’s built like a tank so wouldn’t get knocked about and could hold the ball up and with the world cup comming up he’s gonna be playing for a place for egypt.
i know there was problems with his attitude but im sure he’d behave for us after all steve bruce is a prick! i’d have an attitude towards him too if i played for him! and no disrespect to wigan but he’d have the chance to for a big team and try to make a name for himself.
i know a lot of people will disagree and to be fair he’d not be my first choice adriano would but if we’re looking at the like of horseface then we’re obviously looking for someone with prem experience, i’d also look at reyes as he can play left wing so when torres is fit wouldn’t have to worry about keeping him happy we could just shove him on the left.

Would rather have nemeth back from loan and give more chances to babel and pacheco upfront. Don’t know how’d he fare if he does come. We can’t afford to spend on injury prone playes anymore do we?
Anfield Faithful - November 23rd, 2009 at 10:52 am
Huntelaar or jovetic are better choices know they are expensive than nistelrooy but they have age on their side and loads of talent
Scouse Magic - November 23rd, 2009 at 11:21 am
No No No. For one he’s too old and it would be a waste of money, it would cost us approx £1.8M in wages and another £500K for the loan. I would rather see this money invested in a longer term target.
Huntelaar would be a good choice for me, hasn’t settled at Milan and would jump at the chance for an opportunity for 1st team football. Could get him on loan, but only with the agreement of making the move permanent.
Retryboy - November 23rd, 2009 at 11:34 am
Nemeth has been banging in the goals at every level for years now he has earnt the chance. We need to create more whatever though its only torres who needs a 1/2 chance a game and burys it. Gerrard is playing with painkilling injections should just take him and torres out of the equation until they are fit. Play mascherano/aquilani/benayoun. With benayoun/nemeth/pacheco in the beardsley role ngog/babel will score goals and so will the 2nd strikers!! Workhorses lucas/kuyt>out creativity<in give the youngsters chance
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 1:01 pm
I think we should spend 20m on a quality striker and keep him on the Bench like Aquilani… Becoming a joke now!!!
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Is it just me or are we all being taken for a ride here? injury problems aside we are currently living in a state of confusion, we’re being lead to believe that mediocre performances are good enough, and rafa is abusing the trust of every liverpool fan by consistantly manipulating his situation, is that 10 games without a win now? and his comments about city well we showed character…..honestly fuck character….he’s had five years to build the team and this weekend I sat there watching the city game with my head spinning. Ngog liverpool striker for the day, city with tevez, adebayor and bellamy and and all that was playing on my mind was the small notion that adebayor cost city 24 million. We had just gone out and bought an injured midfielder for 20 million and an aging defender for 1.5 and I thought just imagine if rafa had gone out and spent that money on the big lad. Torress adebayor would have been a terrifying forward line up but instead rafa being rafa did what he did and I watched in wonder at the wasted opportunities of the rafa regime. I do feel that all liverpool fans are being taking for a ride, never has a manager understood the workings of a liverpool fan like rafa and he abuses it at every given opportunity. Yes Hicks and Gillett arent doing us any favor but lets not all forget that they didnt force the club to go with them we had DIC there and ready but decided against and now we’ve been lumped with them. However rafa is the only manager from the top 4 consistantly complaining about his financial woes and weakness in the market yet given 28.5 million this summer to spend he spent it on an injured player and an old greek. Johnson aside you’d have to ask yourself one question ” Fuck was he thinking?”, anyway enough of that. I still dream of the day rafa does the following:
1. Tells the press conference that he believes Liverpool should be strong enough to dominate the smaller teams, instead of his famous “it will be a difficult game because they are a strong premiere league side, or first division, well slot divison or side into the sentence.” It almost feels like he’s preparing himself for the loss rather than use the presss conference to give his side that last confidence push.
2.Doesnt blame everyone and everything including natural disasters for why his tactics are shit and why he allows mediocre teams to dominate us so effectively.
3.Makes shit signings wastes his transfer kitty and then blames lack of performance on pitch for not having the money to strengthen.
4. Has an excuse for everything ….
5. lowers expectation to save his arse at every opportunity. It seems every week I read that rafa still thinks we can win the league however this week it all seems to be how we garantuee we’ll be in top four. cracks me up.
Anyhow my opinion again on the Van signing this season honestly I couldnt give a fuck who he signs, because its all gonna be just more addition to the joke that is this season, and to top things off if we sack him we can forget about transfers in the summer because the 20 million would have to go to rafa.
WICKED!

kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 1:31 pm
atths point we need someone like pirlo or even beckham that we could play centrally in midfield and control the tempo of games and string more thasn one or two passes together, i know these guys are both old, but thats what we are currently lacking in the middle someone mature enough t o control the game, though actually in fairness thats rafas fault also
rafa out !!!!!!!!!!!!
kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 1:32 pm
aquilani would begreat but it doesnt look like he is gonna get a game this side of xmas, if he doesnt start tomorrown then i dont know
gerrard isnt fit

hamsik looks good on the ball, he would do and we need van der vaaart on loand also
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 1:49 pm
It does not matter who Rafa buy’s……because he will sit bench anyway while we play our 3rd and 4th string players!
I say don’t spend a sent in January (unless we sell first), lets use all availible transfer money to pay Rafa off and sack the muppet!! Bring in somebody who at least changes his tactics and or formation when things are not working…. I have been saying this to everybody for the last 3 years! even when we finished 2nd last year! Rafa sucks!!

anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Dont think that this would be good at all…5 million?
id rather see 5 million go towards a younger striker….the only way that V.nist would be any good for us is if we constantly played crossing wingers….currently we dont really have an abundance of those lol…..yossi normally cuts inside to shoot…as does babel and riera …and kuyt….
personally if were contemplating spending 5 million on a 33year old who is injury prone then we need to get our heads sorted…
Injuries are one of our biggest problems atm…the last thing we need is to spend 5million on a player who has missed out because of injury isnt it?
kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 2:07 pm
i reallt for sorry for lucas, the poor lad must be shitting it the whole way through every game, for if he makes one error he knows everyone will be slating him again, he missed a header at the weekend we didnt win and poeple had the knives out for him again even though he played jetlagged from his flight from brazil
wishes people would give lucas some room for error, hes still young and we all know kids mature at different rates, so no point in saying rooney is 22 also.
lucas s lack of confidence is still showing in front of goal as paultomkins rightly said on our website( dont like tomkins thta much anymore btw). meh whats the point, people will still bash lucas when things go wrong.

our biggest problewm at the moment is rafa benitez s abilty to see how a game is developing and make the right changes at the right times to affect its outcome, he has made the incorrect choices against lyon, fulham, and birmigham in recent weeks and is only just forgiven fr doing it against man city by having two subs forced on him.watching the game when we were 1-0 up i could see city are gonna get a goal now , we needed t make changes at this point, then when city did score i coudl see they are fucking all over us out there , where is our world class mascherano stamping his authority on this game , answer second half he was anonymous, gerrard not fit , benayoun not fit, aquilani chomping at the bit5 like alunatic desperate to play in the second half, i dunno i can in some ways understand benitez s decisions in the light of our two injuries but i dont have much faith that he would do anything any different had he had all three subs available to him
its his primary failing as amanager, and its not just this season he has been doing it, if i look back to every liverpoool defeat in the last three years , the primary reason we were beaten is benite z s lack of abilty to see how the tide is turning and make the corrrect substitutions to stem the flow and then turn the tide. i m sick of the frustration of screaming at my tv for him to make subs after 55 mins or so and then pissed off when he finally does it after 75 mins , usually expecting ryan babel to be the dutch superman and pproduce something in this meagre amount of time.
not happy , thanks but rafa out!¬!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone seen the 18 man squad going to debrecen? Reina, cavalieri, johnson, aurelio, insua, dossena, carragher, agger, skrtel, kyrgiakos, mascherano, lucas, spearing, gerrard, aquilani, benayoun, kuyt, ngog…. 1 RB(injured) leaves darby behind, 1 RM(not even a right midfielder) leaves ecclestone/amoo behind 1 CF(in an 18 man squad)again why isn’t ecclestone there? 3 creative players(gerrard, aquilani, benayoun) in an 18 man squad! None match fit. Before everyone goes on about injuries the players missing from the original 28 martin, darby, kelly, plessis, amoo, riera, babel, ecclestone, torres, voronin… Only torres, riera, babel, kelly injured why did rafa take voronin over nemeth, plessis over pacheco when we have mascherano, lucas, spearing all defensive midfielders…why pick these young lads in the squad then leave them behind? We are probably out anyway why not play ecclestone/amoo/darby

Retryboy - November 23rd, 2009 at 2:27 pm

Suggestion – how about we first try playing some games with two strickers/forwards instead of one poor sole playing up thier on thier own. Even Torres battles up there sometimes by himself, we should try this before splashing cash on any strikers?

Retry. The reason that the players that you have listed aren’t going to Hungary is that they were not on the list given to Fifa before the group games started.
Retryboy - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:06 pm
Err yeah they were Hoogleboy type in liverpool champions league squad in the top bar
Hoogleboogybugleboy - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:07 pm
Had Nemeth not gone on loan he would probably still not be playing first team football. At least he is playing and gaining experience. When he comes back he will be at the required level. Fans on here are too fickle for my liking. Most of them cannot even remember the last time liverpool won the league and yet they still go on like it’s the devine right. The club are better than it has been for 20 years now and it is so easily forgotten how close we came last year. These same fans that are so unhappy now were singing the praises and jumping for joy last season. Judge the team and the manager when everyone is fit. I am confidant that we will finish in the top four as we always have a better 2nd half of the season than the first. Going out of the CL might also be a blessing, not financially but for focus. I see that Liverpool are already favorites for the Europa league. I am sick to my back teeth at the moaning and whining that goes on on here.
Retryboy - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:16 pm
Hoogleboy- I remember winning titles… I remember the way king Kenny’s team used to play, the way all liverpool teams used to play. I remember owen, fowler, Redknapp, gerrard getting their chances but then again the managers didn’t only leave room for one striker and 2 creative midfielders then. They didn’t sign second rate players over the young talent either. Won’t apologise for wanting the best for my team and for thinking we belong at the top. Or for having faith in young players and the squad as a whole.
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:16 pm
liverpool realy need a winger. kuyt is not up to the mark.
Retryboy - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:26 pm
Did you check the champions league squad Hoogleboy come on-answer one point for once instead of more ‘in rafa we trust’ garbage why aren’t ecclestone, amoo, darby going? When we are taking 1 injured RB, 1 CF and 1 RM who isn’t even a right midfielder
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:35 pm
The only reason we are allegedly interested in signing him, is because he’s cheap! If he was any good he would be in the starting Madrid lineup every game. We don’t need a horse-headed has been going cheap. We need some class like David Villa. If we flog off the half-time orange slicers like Voronin, Ngog and Kuyt, we might be able to justify buying someone who’s a threat and not a debt!
kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:35 pm
hoooogle my criticisms of rafa were for the exact same reasons last season as this one, proving he hasnt learned much since then. secondly all te4ams have injuries thats the point of having a decent squadi blame rafa for destroying lucas and babel and if i were a gifted young footballer theres no way i would choose to go to anfield while benitez is in charge, no way, i ve got dossena playing in torres s position against debrecen
dossena up front alone
darren bent can play the lone striker role really well, he gets goals always has wherever he has played, but we didnt try to sign him either
left wing , we lack a decent left winger but did we bid for martin petrov while he was unhappy at city earlier in the year , no
defoe has been signed twice by redknapp in recent years , he was another option asa second striker we didnt pursue, once again defoe always gets goals
robbie keane , not commenting on that scenario
kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:36 pm
david villa is 28 and would cost forty million, this isnt fantasy football
kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:40 pm
and villa doesnt play well with torres, torres nose gets out of joint when he isnt the main man, torres needs a support act not a rival and thats what villa is to him, a rival for the glory.
someone who can comliment torres is needed , i actuually think we already have him his name is dirk kuyt, but benitspaz prefers to play him as a winger than in his most preferred position as a goal poacher. i am genuinely feeling we should be playing a four foru two at home with torres and kuyt up front
gerard when fit and aquilani when not partnering masch inthe middle, babel right mif=difled riera or yossie left and a flat back four
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:44 pm
£40 mill is alot of money but we need to buy some class and unfortunately that costs. As the saying goes…you pay peanuts you get monkeys! Why we can’t let Christina Aquilani play is beyond me. Give him a bloody game Rafa!
Hoogleboogybugleboy - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Fair enough retry. My mistake. I guess the players that are going are the ones manager and the staff have more faith in and that for me is all that matters. When you are manager of Liverpool I’ll take notice of the players that you think should go. You go on about the “in Rafa we trust” brigade or whatever you call them but to me the “get Rafa out” Brigade are exactly the same only much more negative. It was only the other day that you thought that Sam Allardyce would be a good manager for Liverpool. Sorry mate but I stopped taking you seriously after that… No hang on… I’ve never taken you seriously.
kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:47 pm
torres seriously had his nose out of joint when keane was signed also, yet they could have made a really formidable partnership , i said last season that torres would be out mostly til christmas til he learns to appreciate what keane can bring to the team and that by february last year together they would have been scoring goals for fun, but he was sold too soon, foolish rafa again
i wonder how much of gerrards problem is age catching up with him, he ll be thrity soon and losing his legs then he ll have to adapt his game whether he wants to or not, if he is smart he ll become the midfield creator sitting alongside mascherano with aquilani in the hole, gerrard has played a lot of games over the last ten years , is it all catching up with him????
i dnt know , what i do know is that he does seem out of sorts, tired unfit uniterested even, same applies to dirk who also in my opinion needs a rest a proper rest three or four games to revitalise himself, he has run himself into the gournd for us over the last few years and i think he is now suffering because of it
i really hope that wenger doesnt come in and buy babel in january
i really hope that all liverpool fans get off lucas s back, i really hope we sign a comanding centre back
i hope kuyt gets to play alongside torres and i agree with retro boy that nemeth would also be perfect for this role in a year or two but could serve as kuyt s understudy til then
i hope riera gets fit and performs with some consistency because he has a lot of talent, better as a left midfielder than winger in my opinion
i really hope dossena comes good for us because i really like the guy
kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:49 pm
i also think quaresma could do really well under the right manager , he still has a lot to prove and he would be a bargain at 6 million
kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:51 pm
there is nothing negatve about wanting rafa out, i would not want benitez out unless i had a better man in mind for the job, hiddink is one very strong option, my preffered would be capello, there isn t anything negative about wanting to improve your current situation
kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:52 pm
capello makes big calls when the chips aredown, so does mourinho and hiddink performs miracles with teams
kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:53 pm
when the chips are down with benitez he hesistates stutters and bottles it, then finally makes the changes when its too late, that for me is not a good manager
kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:54 pm
and i would think that hiddink is currently seeking a new challenge
kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:56 pm
hiddink mourinho and capello three men that could handle the pressures of beig liverpool boss, which i am certain isnt easy. i would not advocate replacing benitez with too many other men.
kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:58 pm
some guy earlier suggested buying some young talent for five millin
i asked where can you find young goalscoring talent for less than five million. i am still waiting for a response
all the good young striker cost a fortune, aguero jovetic suarez , podolski might come a little cheaper and is still young
i always wanted to see klose at anfield
kermit - November 23rd, 2009 at 3:59 pm
but if we signed podolski no doubt rafa would turn him into a left back

The teams confidence is very low I have excuses for alot of Rafa errors but none for the set piece errors. this is inexcusable. at least when hollier said he

Proved wrong on what? It’s all about opinions. Why do you find that so hard to understand. And what exactly am i negative about? This is the second time that I have asked you. Maybe you don’t understand what negative means? I really am baffled by you Retry and your above post makes no sense either???? I have never said that any players are not good enough because Rafa hasn’t picked them. You made that up. As with me being negative about Liverpool. You made that up as well. Don’t make things up that I have never said. It really is not on.
...samlfc.... - November 23rd, 2009 at 5:27 pm
RVN is to old!!!!! i want someone that can score some goals and can assist aswell but not to young and not old……..wait we have that in Kuyt so i’m going back to what i want to see in the January transfer window and have a Right winger and maybe left but right is more important atm as Kuyt is a striker and not a winger!! but Rafa fails to realise this
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 5:27 pm
THE CHOSEN ONE
id love a very fast defender who could play of field and cover alot of ground.
KERMIT you made some interesting points there. Things just are not clicking this season. Ye rafa has made subs and changed the game for us on many occations but yes he has to be more consistent.
The teams confidence is very low I have excuses for alot of Rafa errors but none for the set piece errors. this is inexcusable. at least when hollier said he sort it he did.
The problem is teams have sussed us out how we defend set pieces. If you watch ull find the players are all in the same place and then our opponent move into the spaces. the crosser knows these spaces and have practiced them in training. We dont improvise. People are too scared to move or for they may be blamed for a goal.
Its dis heartening really.

I find my self agreeing with the point that Hoogleboogybugleboy made when he said “Had Nemeth not gone on loan he would probably still not be playing first team football. At least he is playing and gaining experience” ….
Football is about options and tactics some match we need to play with two strikers (something the Rafa still does not realise)The Rafaites and the people who are frighten of change always say that Torres is best up front by his self …Okay lets say that that is true …. What happen when he is isolated, or the defenders are double teaming him? Or on the odd occasion were we just need to play the two strikers up front, does Rafa even consider these things?
As I have stated here in the past I like Kuyt as a player, But he is not the best player on the right that there is out there….. The same goes for Benayoun, Riera and Aurelio players which I also like, but it seems that a lot of you would advocate never looking to change these players, either by replacing them, or buying in better and have them as squad players, you would rather hang on to players like Lucas, N’gog, Babel and Plessis instead of trying to improve the team …..Same goes for the way a lot for you defender Rafa …..
It makes me wonder ….. Were to people that are saying “In Rafa We Trust” saying “In Gérard We Trust” when Houllier was in charge?……
Can you lot not see what is happening??? …
These are things that everybody who looked and wanted to see warned would happen ….. The only one that could not see this where the Rafaites …..
And I maybe all well saying that when the side is at full strength with no injuries that we will sweep all be for us, my point is If Rafa had done his job properly in the first place he would have made sure that we had decent cover that was ready to step up to the plate in the event of key players getting injured ….. Even now Rafa would rather play semi-fit players rather than playing the reserves evident by the bench on Saturday against Man City
How he played the players he had I find no fault with, but this I what I meant when I said that “Once again I find myself questioning his choice of players”
Realistically we are looking at the FA cup, Europa League, and a top 5 or 6 place in the EPL, I fell that with Man City that they can only improve, and the way Tottenham are playing, even Aston Villia 5th or 6th place is the best that we can realistically hope for …..

i wish i could disagree with you on our targets but i’m affraid that is proberly the best we can do this season in the league……….but on the trophies however Europa cup and Fa cup is still a trophy and i would love to see us lift one of them up!! i just want to see liverpool with a trophy this season.
Warren Bloggs - November 23rd, 2009 at 5:55 pm
Van Nistelrooy? Well i wouldn’t like us to sign him to be honest, however, a loan deal may well be more sensible. The short term answer?
Retryboy - November 23rd, 2009 at 5:56 pm
Hoogleboy any slower you would stop. You were proved wrong because you thought that amoo, ecclestone, darby weren’t in the champions league squad think its quite fair to question why, now we have established they are, doesn’t rafa take them to the debrecen game seeing as though in the 18 man squad he has taken we have 1 CF (ngog and ecclestone is a CF) 1 RM(kuyt not even a RM amoo is) 1 RB(johnson not even fit 2 days ago leaves darby a recognised right back behind) we have every right to question these decisions and you saying that well they’re the ones the coaching staff has faith in equates to they aren’t good enough as does nemeth probably wouldn’t be playing first team football now? Sounds negative and ridiculous too seeing as though voronin has seen plenty of action this year. Maybe if you had faith in the young players you would question such decisions from the coaching staff?

Sorry need to eat ….later people
Hoogleboogybugleboy - November 23rd, 2009 at 6:07 pm
And i admitted my mistake. What were the other 999,999 things that I was proven “wrong” about though just out of interest? But whatever you say Retry. I stand totally corrected and humbled by your undying knowledge of everything football. You are obviously the master and i shall try my very hardest to campaign for you to get the Liverpool managers job so that your opinions and knowledge can be used to it’s fullest instead of you just “debating” on a website. Failing that I’ll just agree with everything that you say as you seem to like that.
...samlfc.... - November 23rd, 2009 at 6:33 pm
Afternoon Donavan and everyone else for that matter
i would like the Europa cup more than the Fa cup cause i think (not sure though) that if you win the Europa league then you are automataically n the champions league next season……..if not then i would like the Fa cup. Win both even better.
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 7:56 pm
this is the first real article i have read that actually makes sense. all the others were well are rubbish. i do agree with bringing ruud into the anfield picture, would be nice having a player that can finish and score goals when gerrard or torres are not playing or even both. now, the back line will remain the same but when macherano leaves lucas can fill, this would mean having a three man midfield in the front of him, kuyt benayoun and alberto then ruud playing off the sholder of torres and gerrard right behind them.
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 8:32 pm
if benitez doesn sign him in jan he needs to rub horse plcenta on his head!!

ANDRE GIGNAC IS THE MAN FIT FOR THE JOB!!!!!!!!CHEAP AND YOUNG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Danski_LFC9 - November 23rd, 2009 at 9:29 pm
evening all!.. Not sure how I feel about this! he is a prolific goal scorer and would be a great addition to to the bench even if used as a super sub.. has loads of champions league experience is proven in the prem and would stick 2 fingers up at fergie and the mancs… on the other hand with limted funds i think £5m would be better used to increase an offer on a better player, I would also like to see Babel played upfront with Torres on a regular basis… i think Babels problem is confidence and a need to impress which leads to a loss of nerves.. we also have Nemeth out on loan who is proving himself in the u21s and greek league!… still 50/50
Danski_LFC9 - November 23rd, 2009 at 9:32 pm
…. i would however be happy if a loan deal was struck
anonymous - November 23rd, 2009 at 9:38 pm
i think rvn would be a good loan deal but dont buy him id buy some decent defenders we need them BADLY i would get rid of lucas because he hasnt proved it at anfield in the 2 years hes been here we have a lot of average players at the club we might have 2 get rid of them if we want 2 get the top 4 this year mascheran id keep for the fact he can tackle good and win the ball id get a good ball player to feed torres and maybe put gerrard back into the middle and put rvn or pavuylechenko up front with torres put riera on the left and benayoun on the right when their fit they are good players aswell i feel babel has also have his chance get rid of alot of players in january and buy good decent players
Digger - November 23rd, 2009 at 11:51 pm
whats wrong with every one seriously….. you think rvn will be the answer to our problems???? so RVN will play the loan striker in a team with 7 defenders, no width, and really no support???? thats to much to do for him he’s old and has no legs
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 12:21 am
i thnk the idea of gerrard behind a two pronged attack of torres and babel is a great plan, now where the manager with the balls to implement it????
agreed on rvn , would be handy to have as a sub for thirty mins a game, but that is about it.
though i think kuyt ought to be playing alongside torres, he wouldnt take away torres limelight and i think thats one criticism i have of torres, he needs to be the glory boy. i could see it with villa for spain at the euros and with keane at liverpool.
no i have two criticism of torres he is pooor at holding the ball up and bringing midfielders into play also. apart from that he is a genius.
i m sick of football talk now, heres to hoping aquilani plays tmorrow
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 1:14 am
all the people naming young top class strikers , my god get real we dont have the money jesus this would be the best we could get in jan, be realistic we can not afford world class players in their prime anymore, this would be a good buy for liverpool
Retryboy - November 24th, 2009 at 1:21 am
Asked if aquilani would feature by an italian journalist today. “aquilani is in the squad so he can play. It depends. The team has some players in his position now, gerrard coming back and mascherano, lucas playing well.” have been saying that, the only reason aquilani doesn’t play is because rafa likes 2 defensive midfielders, nothing to do with fitness. He obviously doesn’t see any problem with balance having 1Gk, 4 defenders, 2 DCM and a defensive RM with 2 creative players and 1 striker. If you buy someone for £20m injured they gotta play!
baggins09 - November 24th, 2009 at 11:52 am
i personally think we’ve got players who are capable of challenging for the the prem, problem is how there been used or should that be abused?
rafa doesn’t know how to get the best out of his squad and we can buy all the best players in the world but he’s still gonna play 1 striker and 2 dm and even if we bought kaka he’d still make him play next to masch with gerrard off torres.
i’m afraid as long as benitez is in charge we’ll never go any further than the level we’re at now. last season we did really well theres no doubting but other teams under acheived which made us look better, we had too many draws and for me it was down to the manager not been able to alter his tactics to change a game and kill off teams which cost us the league.
real are welcome to him they’ll not be as patient with him as we have been they’ll not put up with 4 years with no trophys and living off the glory of a champions league and fa cup win 5 years ago, and yeah we have got to a few more finals and semi’s but so we fucking should be we’re one of the biggest clubs in europe he’s spent absolutely millions and and we’ve not really moved forward all that much, the league position has improved but then again arsenal have been poor for a few seasons and chelsea have been chopping and changing managers.
fair enough the owners have been a bit tighter with money than we thought they would be but atleast there getting the sponsor rolling in now and we’re gonna start competeing with utd and others in that respect, they’ve been hit by resession like the rest of us have so i can sort of see why the stadium is on hold, but they’ve still coughed up for some big signings, its benitez who’s miss spent and miss managed the team. robbie keane would have been the perfect partner for torres but benitez was too arrogant to give him a chance, i think its a safe bet we would have won the league last season if we’d kept keane and gone 4-4-2.
basically i think we need a manager who can learn from his mistakes and who isn’t a stubourn, arrogant, tunnel visioned, prick who can’t see that 4-5-1 doesn’t work in every game
bod - November 24th, 2009 at 11:55 am
First of all; we need to take care of our own strikers. I couldn’t help but notice Ngog’s demeanour during the City game. He had the look of a man that has no confidence in himself and felt he didn’t belong there. This shouldn’t happen after the number of games he’s played. If I can see it, surely Rafa can. Get this sorted, so we can get the best out of this young lad.
Secondly, I’d accept the fox in the box Dutch man if he’s available at the right price. Anything he can pass on to the young guys would be invaluable. Hell, his dislike of Ferguson might even spur him on to score a decent amount of goals. As with all rumours we see on these sites who promise us riches of talent; we’ll probably end up acquiring a Veronin esque player from some God forsaken team.
Donavan Ried - November 24th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
bod – November 24th, 2009 at 11:55 am …… That has to be down to Rafa’s “Man Management “style or Lack of ….. N’gog ( A Player that i do not Rate by the way) ….. Must feel that the only way he will get a full game is if Torres is injured other than that forget about it, Rafa doesn’t do 4-4-2 …….
Ryan Babel was quoted today in one of the news paper as saying that I tried to talk with Rafa about him starting more games ….. what stood out for me was the “I tried to talk” ….. Rafa never listens to anyone
baggins09 – November 24th, 2009 at 11:52 am ………. I was thinking this morning that it would be ironic if Rafa ended up at Real this Summer. As i feel that it was his treatment of Alonso that was the reason forAlonso wanting to go to Real. And that triggered Alonso then coming back to Liverpool for less than
we sold him. lol …….
Retryboy - November 24th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Baggins(11.52)…agree with all your points excellent post. Bod… Think personally its the lone striker role is a thankless task especially with the lack of creative players and support. Someone like torres at times looks like he is run ragged but torres just needs a sniff and he is that amazing to take it. Without him available with a young lad up front feel he either needs a striker beside him like kuyt/nemeth or benayoun/gerrard just behind him and another creative player in the middle with mascherano gerrard/aquilani bit of pace and creativity down the flanks too. Donovan…babel also said he has never received any constructive advice just to train and focus same garbage we get at a press conference! He also said other players can play consistently badly over long periods of time without it affecting his opinion of them… Lucas and kuyt spring to mind. Exactly right in what he has said and i doubt he is the only squad member to feel that way they would never break ranks and say it though but they haven’t been treated quite as badly as the dutchman and probably still harbour the glimmer of hope rafa will see things that are right in front of his eyes… Baggins rafa is the manager madrid fans want lol it really is crazy his style is so negative they would want him out in a month! The alonso thing would be interesting and i wouldn’t be suprised to see him return then! We could swap him for lucas and rafa would probably go for it too!
Donavan Ried - November 24th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
Retryboy – November 24th, 2009 at 3:05 pm ….. Where can i find the full interview with Babel.?….. Don’t really buy papers that often, just read it this Morning on the tellytext……
“We could swap him for lucas and rafa would probably go for it too!”
LMAO Believe that he would too ….. Speak later mate
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 5:22 pm
Well if its in the sun i f**K*** hope you don read it
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
I think it will be good and he could supply torres with more goals so then we will win more games. However I think Rafa should hold back on transfers for a while so then he could buy a quality player like David Villa or MAYBE EVEN GET BACK XABI ALONSO or maybe if he holds back for ages he could buy Ronaldinhio. And you never know he miight buy Robinho since Man City don’t play him much anymore. There are many possibilitys, but i think Rafa should get a quality defender like Ashley Cole or even John Terry init. Also I think Rafa should put on Babel for Lucas ALOT!!!! AND SHOULD PLAY AQUILANI FOR GODS SAKE:( WHY DID HE BUY HIM IF HE DOESN’T PLAY HIM!!!!! By the way im Venet and im 10 years old
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 8:27 pm

ha ha donavan you don’t rate n’gog but i bet you rate macheda you closet manc little tool.
kermit - November 26th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
not macheda but obertan looked pretty usefullast night and that chelsea kid, gael katuna looked good last sat also
time to give babel ten games in a row up front where he wants to play, and iof after seven or eight games he isnt performing then sell him, if he is playing out of his skin then lucky us, either way we win.
then torres can go for surgery, should have gone at least three weeks ago
which of ur young players look good
answer none of them cos they dont get a game
rvn useful as a bench player and to give torres a rest now and again , will score goals, good call but get him on loan
kermit - November 26th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
i aso rate rooney as being on a par with gerrard as englands two best players ,(england are better when these two play closer together on the field) wonders if i m a closet manc now too, or messi is class maybe i m a closet catalan, though wait i think eto o is brilliant and won the european cup last year but he played for barca then and inter now ,,, ooooh no i m too confused
