Reports in Italy suggest Arsenal are preparing an approach for Sampdoria striker Giampaolo Pazzini.
The Italian frontman is among the leading scorers in Serie A this season, helping Samp to mount a top four challenge.
A number of eye-catching performances have drawn attention from afar, with numerous clubs believed to be tracking his availability.
Arsenal are the latest to be linked with a move for the 25-year-old striker, with Arsene Wenger said to be willing to part with 18million euros (£16.2m) in order to get his man.
That is said to fall some way short of Sampdoria’s valuation, but they have refused to rule out the possibility of opening negotiations with any interested party.
Should Arsenal launch a bid, they are likely to face competition for Pazzini’s signature from Premier League rivals Chelsea. (Sky Sports)
Arsene Wenger doesn’t usually act impetuously in the transfer market and as such I can’t see him forking out such a large fee simply because a player happens to start a season with a bit of a scoring streak. Giampaolo Pazzini is a trier who at Atalanta and Fiorentina failed to really ignite his career and it took a move to Genoa to in form Sampdoria to finally make a name for himself.
After netting eight times already this season, his name began to get banded about and he was linked to all manner of clubs both in Italy and across Europe and whilst his efforts have catapulted the perennial mid table team to a top four spot, I don’t see the Arsenal boss making such a large bid for the 25 year old who has now found his way into the Italian national team set-up.
