Unsettled Liverpool winger Ryan Babel has revealed he could leave in January if he fails to establish himself in Rafa Benitez’s plans.
Babel is unhappy with his lack of first-team opportunities with the 22-year-old failing to hold down a place in the starting XI.
The Dutchman has been forced to content himself with a bit-part role at Anfield and he plans to hold talks with Benitez before the transfer window reopens in January to resolve his future.
“I have tried to talk to the manager but it isn’t of any use. I couldn’t really do anything with the feedback Benitez gave me,” Babel is quoted as saying in The Sun.
“We have agreed to look at my situation in the winter. If there’s no improvement then, I have to be honest, I want to be somewhere else.
“I don’t play a lot so I can’t be happy and I can’t cheer out loud. Sometimes I wonder how long I can sustain it but I will fight for my position – what else can I do?”
Babel, who will miss Tuesday’s vital Champions League trip to Debrecen through injury, is surprised he has not been afforded more chances in the side after impressing in his debut season at Anfield.
“Isn’t it unbelievable that in my first year I got chosen as Talent of the Year? And a season later I hardly play and without getting a proper chance.”
Babel, who represented Holland in Beijing last summer, added: “I don’t know if it has anything to do with my little trip to the Olympics. I know the manager wanted me to stay.”
However, the 22-year-old does not think Benitez has a grudge against him.
Babel explained: “I really don’t believe he is trying to get back at me. Every time me or my agent (Willie Haatrecht) have a chat with him he stresses I can’t leave and he believes in me. We have to trust he is telling the truth. Saying it is different to showing it.”Babel has confidence in his own ability and still believes he can make the right impression in a Liverpool shirt.
He added: “I have shown I can do it plenty of times. I know I could be further in my career but if nobody helps you, if they don’t make it easier for you, then it is difficult.” (BBC Sport)
Liverpool are reported to be showing a strong interest in talented young Holland winger Eljero Elia.
The 22-year-old only moved to Hamburg from FC Twente in his homeland in an £8.5million deal in the summer.
But he has already been linked with a possible switch to the Premier League following a series of impressive displays for club and country. (Sky Sports)
This latest bit of chat from Babel just re-opens the possibility of a swap move for Hamburg winger Elia who reportedly wouldn’t be averse to leaving the Bundesliga for the Premier League and it does appear that Ryan is talking himself into the Anfield exit he has been heading towards for a long time.
I think the Dutchman has got things a little mixed up though, he seems to be suggesting that he has shown enough to warrant a regular spot in the team when that is patently untrue. It is something of a vicious circle as clearly unless he gets a good run he won’t progress but given that the former Ajax man is approaching his fiftieth start for the club it would be churlish of the winger to suggest that Rafa is overlooking him.
The idea of bringing in Eljero Elia and seeing Babel going in the other direction, plus us probably having to give a little sweetener into the bargain, is one that would interest most Liverpool fans who have probably begun to get a little irritated by Ryan’s inability to perform.

First off, this little cunt gives an interview with the shitrag, he certainly knows how to get to people. Secondly, how much whining does this malcontent plan on doing between now and then because I cannot stomach it. His “injury” forced him out of the match vs Citeh? Ryan, you don’t get chances because you don’t prove your quality, EVER. You limped off after a tiny knock when the team are already spread too thin to be expected to win matches, you are a bitch, get the fuck out of Liverpool.
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
i guarantee in the long run elia will prove to be a poor mans babel and that babel if he leaves us will go on to much greater things and beitez will loookj like a tit and this is why he doesnt sell him, but he wont play him out of stubborness and he would have to admit that his purchase of him was an impulse buy to stop wenger creating the next henry out of him
i am fully convinced this is the problem, be a man mr benitez admit you made a mistake and give ryan a go and stop begrudging him playing time on the field
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
how many more young players will beni9tez destroy, if i was a young talenetd player i d look at babel and lucas and think again aboutn joining liverpool

if babel wants to leave we cant stop him. my guess is that he leaves next transfer-window, and i hope we get eljero and that he becomes ur new quality winger! pace, skills and soo on .. like spurs have lennon, chelsea have malouda, scum have valencia&nani, like arsenal has walcot!

babel doesnt want to leave he wants to play

Ynwa you are talking garbage everything babel has said is spot on. Hansen today again said that babel has the talent to be in the first 11 and we need pace on the wings note the wings plural meaning kuyt doesn’t cut it down the right. I can only remember 4 opportunities for ryan on the right and every time he looked quality set up the winner at west ham, had torres singing his praises giving us the only genuine bit of wing play on the right we have seen for years. Never played there again. After he banged in the goal against lyon he could expect a start and never got one. He has had this for his whole liverpool career i agree with kermit would rather keep babel than rafa by far.
RyanO - November 24th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
What’s going on there is that Ryan Babel is SHITE. He has proven it time and time again. I don’t understand where this garbage about not getting an opportunity is coming from? He has been granted many, many chances to get into form and has simply not come through. What could you be watching that tells you he is going to ever come good for Liverpool? Perhaps you missed the match this past weekend when he was “forced: to leave due to a tiny knock? I saw a player with NO HEART, NO DESIRE and NO PRIDE IN THE CREST beg off the pitch FOR NOTHING! This lad cares nothing about Liverpool, the supporters or the manager, why would anyone continue to give him the benefit of doubt? Piss off Babel.
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
RyanO, mate you’re spot on. Babel has been given enough chances, he simply has not got the attitude or temprement to do it at a club like Liverpool. He’s got the talent, not the brain.
I’ve been at Anfield every other week for the past 25 years plus, and seen many greats and failures and RB will certainly be in the later one for me and most other Liverpool fans. Roll on Janaury, and lets move this muppet on. Even Stevie Gerrard had to to tell him to get up and stop whinging on Saturday, of which he took no notice and limped off….See ya Babel!!

Retryboy - November 24th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
Dr Ryano with his long distance diagnosis there! Only times he has been played has been left midfield where all the defenders worked out after his initial flurry he was just going to come inside and bang one in, epl defenders knew they couldn’t afford to do that so they show him outside on his weak left or has to try and bundle his way through them to get inside. All his attributes are taken out of his game playing him there. He is a 100 times more of a threat than kuyt on the right no matter how poor kuyt is though babel won’t start there. Because then rafa would have to admit he has played him wrong for years.
Scouse Magic - November 24th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
I don’t doubt Babel’s talent, however it just isn’t working out for him at Liverpool, I’d look to off-load him possibly on loan to get his confidence back and then look to bring in an experienced winger to replace him again on loan. This way it’s a win win situation. Babel gets first team football and we replace him with someone who’s been doing it for a while.
Although i can’t see us doing much business in Jan anyway, i must admit i am losing patience with Rafa, the way he picks the team and the way he treats are youngsters, he said he needed a complete overhaul of the youth system, which he started 5 years ago and nothing has happened, sort it out and give the youngsters a go, so they can show up some of the prima donnas that we have in the team.
Hoogleboogybugleboy - November 24th, 2009 at 5:10 pm
I’m with RyanO on this. Babel has had enough chances to prove his worth and he just has not taken them. He did set up Torres goal and he has scored some goals but apart from that he has done nothing. I find him to be the most frustrating player at Liverpool at the moment and that is saying something with the way we are playing. Take Benayoun as a fine example. Last season he was not playing much. He was given his chance and he has not looked back. Babel obviously has a bad attitude and that cannot be accepted at any level of football in my opinion. Take his injury on Saturday for instance. He did not even try to run it off even though Gerrard told him to and apparently he only twisted his ankle. The guy has far too much to say. Maybe he might do well somewhere else but it is obvious that he doesn’t want to play for Liverpool and I only want players at the club who want to be there.

what is the point of buying this guy hes just gonna be an epic fail. Babel has never dissappointed me when he has started or come off the bench. Rafa should play him and n’gog upfront when torres is injured or rm because kuyt needs a rest.

I seen that as well when stevie went over to him and told him to get up and run it off. I agree he has had his chances, his mentality is not right, i recall David Fairclough saying they have dont all sorts of work to try and sort his head out. bt to no avail
I think i would send him out on loan and see where that comes. If your are a great player you can play anywhere and for me ryan had the potetial to be a great player.
How much praise does this lad want he has Digger Barnes say it and now Hansen
And retry its because that kuyt is defensively better and has a fantastic workrate if Ryan had this i’m sure Rafa would trust in him.

THE CHOSEN ONE - November 24th, 2009 at 5:19 pm
Rafa has alot of pressure on at the moment. I think he wants the team playing well before he introduces Aquilani. the last thing he needs is for the press to say 25 m of crap.I think hell stick with lucas and bring him on 60th min. Personaly I hope he starts.
as of babel hes well within his right to say what he said however after agrreeing with his points I still think he is a utter bell end for the fact that club comes before player and his timing is unprofessional and utterly disruptive to say the lease causing friction in our biggest game ever when the squad should be sticking together.
Theres a time and a place for things and its definately not now, Afterall rafa did buy him. If I was rafa id keep him to the summer now. if he doesnt play well he doesnt get picked. it will make him buckler up for the world cup.
Hes a striker or a right mid. Ngog has played well. Torress is better. and gerrard is gerrard. On the right mid hes a poor defender hence he cant tackle. if im honest the potential is their but raw but hes not mr fantastic and should respect his team mates and the club more.
why couldnt he just wait for 2 days before he said it. and his comments would be respected more.
silly bugger
I really don`t get people supporting him when we have to win this match. That priority.
Good news injured Torress shows babel how its done by reiterating his intention to see out his contract at liverpool.
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 5:21 pm
ryano must have been watching a different game to me against city., when babel was on the field city wwere shit scaredof his pace, after he went off our game dropped our threat was minimalised.
scouse magic there is a reason why its not working at liverpool, and that reason is benitez , its the same reason keane didnt work also, another mistake on his part .
steven gerrard had a go at him yeah, and he is right to, but that is the same steven gerrard that when babel first arrived entrusted babel and sought him out everytime he had the ball , why because he knows babel is a threat
and kuyt s tongue is so far up benitz s asshole babel will never get a game on the right.
babel bust his foot on saturday, he couldnt play on fair enough, hae you ever twisted your ankle or fucked your toe playing football, if so you ll know why he wanted to come off.
and lets look who busted his foot, it was nigel de jong, a fellow member of the winning dutch u 21 squad. could he possibly know what a threat babel is?
i think babel is much maligned, it is suggested he lacks heart and is a prima donna, i read his interview and it doesnt smack of prima donna to me, it screams of someone that wants a chance to prove himself, something nearly every liverpool fan has been saying since he arriveed . !” he needs a decent run in the team”, we ve all been saying it for two years, and for two years babel has put up with it. i agree with actually everything he said in this interview, and i d rather not see him leave . i d rather see him get ten games in a row while we have lots of injuries, and then if he doesnt start imprroving after six or seven games i will eat my hat and you can sell him. babel is a matchwinner, he has shown this even in his limited time on the field, and matchwinners are in short supply at our club. rafa s blame the yanks campaign is being seen for what it is now, merely a way to cover his own failings.
lets compare the top four over the last year
chelsea bought no one
man utd sold tevez and ronaldo, buying valencia
arsenal sold adebayor and toure, buying vermaelen
we sold xabi alonso and robbie keane( both bad moves) and arbeloa, bought glen johnson and aquilani, coming out about even
in tough financial times the yanks havent done what the manc yanks have done, no instead they sold their american sporting franchises to support liverpool in a time of crisis, does that show commitment
compare it to a man with two girlfriend and he suddenly dumps one to make the other his wife
no this isn t the yanks fault much as rafa has had us fooled for so long
its time for a change
BENITEZ OUT!!!!!
p.s. even if we start winning which i am sure we will eventually rafa will still make the same errors, he willstill wait too long to make game changing substitutions and i will still want him out
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 5:22 pm
reminds the chosen one that the club is also bigger than the manager, and i think babel was right to say what he said and the timing is okay also, why should he wait anylonger to speka his mind, he has already waited two and ahalf years of his very short footballing career
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
we have to win this match but ryan babel isnt even with the squad.
waiting two more days you would have whinged that it was before the merseyside derby , i support babel and i support lucas because i believe they were bth very good transfers and players to bring to the club and i still do, both have been mismanaged and both played out of position, you can add robbie keane to that list also.
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
torres has major failings to his game also, he is a pooor linkup player,he cant hold the ball up and bring midfielders into play, often tries to win it on his own , and most importantly he cant play with a strike partner because he needs all the glory for himself.
he gets annoyed like at euros when villa was outshining him, his nose was out of joint when keane was signed.
saying that he is brilliant, but he could be even betterif he added theses dimensions to his game.

Liverpool FC Danny
I saw Elia play over the weekend-he was shit, missed an open goal and put two free headers wide. We need to get Hiddink NOW before it is too late and he goes to Chelsea or Argentina. If we get Hiddink now I bet he would play Babbel upfront beside Torres and turn him into one of the worlds top 20 players within 2 years FACT. He will probably want retire in about 3-4 years so then we could get a young manager like Zola, Blanc, Martinez or maybe even Guardiola(if he is lookin for a new challenge!!!).
nanaghlfc - November 24th, 2009 at 5:28 pm
if he wants to go well we shd let him.
THE CHOSEN ONE - November 24th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
i will be fair to babel he has improved with his passing and defensive awareness since last your, the last european ghame he played sums him up.
25 yard screamer in the net and a few minutes later he has a shot 10 yards from goal not only misses the target but the bloody ball goes all the way out for a throwin.
inconsistency is the problem
but rafa has to take some of the responsibilty for not developing him enough.
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 5:30 pm
bt to be totally honest babel ought have been playing right wing last year when we had a more defensively minded right back in arbeloa, and i m all for a front two of babel and torres with gerrard in the hole behind them
in a midfeild diamond with gerrard at its tip aquilani right riera left and masch at its base, then you could have torres and babel running the channels instead of out and out wingers

The fact is Babel is made to look shit because of rafa’s stupid tactics and man management, im beginning to feel more and more uneasy about the In rafa we trust brigade.

I agree with most of the things Kermit is saying except don’t u EVER criticise Torres, he is the third best player in the world!!!
RyanO - November 24th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
kermit, you’re defo on a windup mate. You cannot seriously call yourself a Liverpool supporter? You’re angry because Babel is being called out, so your answer is to try and take Fernando Torres to task? Think you ought to tune into another club, try Chelsea they take anyone over there.
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
i dont believe babel is inconsistent either , i believe if you read the whole article he is utterly pissed off with several of his team mates , and his mistake here now is not to go straight to them and let them know he is pissed off with them.
everyone misses chances and sitters, lucas is being slated for missing a header when actuallly i have seen torres miss easier headers.and yeah i can understand people being disappointed with himmissing it , but then say that, there s no need to batter his confidence back down by saying he is shit, because he definately is not shit. goalscoring is where his still low confidence is showing, it was building slowly and nicely he was looking solid without being spectacular in the middle, and this willbe his next step if people give hima chance
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 5:38 pm
ryano i m prob supporting liverpool longer than you have been alive, i dare say i mnot the only person that has spotted torres lack of abilty at holding up the ball, and if i am then you are all blinded by his blonde hair and goalscoring feats, i m not bashing torres just saying there is room for imporvement even with him
i am not angry because babel is being called out, i am angry because people are blind to benitez, and think the sun shines out his asshole.
if you hadnt noticed i totally agree with every owrd babel said in his interview and if you dont believe that if babel were at another club that he would be performing better then you dont know shit about football.

well just read your message and fair play your opinion i still say this isnt the time and thats mine.
yep torress has his flaws just like gerrard but hey they are both in the top 5 best players in the world at their respective positions . babel isnt.
I do see more of a hunger in babel now when he plays and that is good. I would love him to play along side torress up front and maybe that will happen someday. i again see 2 sides of the fence , maybe rafa has to listen and put his arm around him more. well see.
Retryboy - November 24th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
Agree with the chosen one about the timing and ryano definitely about the fact it was to a sun reporter hadn’t realised that but agree with the stuff babel says and come on people how many defensive players do you need in a team? There has to be room for flair, pace and creativity as well as a shot like that kuyt was bought for £12m as a striker and has none of those attributes 2 DCM, kuyt, 4 defenders, Gk leaves 2 spaces for creativity which when fit gerrard and benayoun have to fill. 1 striker torres when fit has to fill. So what chance does babel have? No other team picks wingers for their defensive ability. Barnes, Mcmanaman, lennon, ronaldo none can tackle and babel does bust a gut to get back. Take lucas and kuyt out of the team put aquilani and babel in their places and you have the balance we have the best sitting midfielder in the world and if we make their full backs defend and we don’t need our attackers to. Put teams on the back foot don’t give them a foothold in the game, sit back poke and prod.

kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
so why did he sign them, now much has been said thta keane wasnt his purchase but babel who bought babel and why
benitez bought him to keep him out of wengers hands , he didnt think it through fully before he bought him, he was impulsive and rash, and wont admit his mistake and thereforesame way he did keane
with keane he seemed to deliberately play him out of position to make him seem shit

robbie keane up front alone????

Liverpool-Kop.com/2009/11/ryan-babel-yet-another-victim-of.html very interesting reading all babels stats some points out of it. 2007/08-29 starts(21 subbed) 17 off the bench 2553 minutes 11 goals 6 assists… Goal/assist every 150 mins, on 10 occasions out of the 11 he scored he was on the bench next game. 2008/09 13 start(4 subbed) 23 off the bench 1542 minutes 4 goals 5 assists goal/assist every 171 mins… Good first season rewarded with 60% cut in pitch time. 2009/2010-4 starts(4 subbed) 10 off the bench 478 minutes g/a every 95 mins… So even though he will get you a goal or assist every full game statistically now hasn’t played a full 90 minutes all season.
Total-46 starts(29 subbed) 51 off the bench goals 18 assists 13. 4573 minutes total(kuyt played 4509 last season alone) goal or assist every 147 mins every 1 and a half games he scores or sets up goals after being played out of position, never having a run in the team, completing 17 games total these stats are amazing and his game time keeps going down.

kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
every time babel comes onto the pitch people i included expect him to produce moments of magic, which he has a pretty his ratio of doing, he gets ten to fifteen mins to change a result , which he often does, he has never played three games in a row for us, when anyone knows he is a confidence player and needs a good run in the team
Retryboy - November 24th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
Kermit- so far in the month you have been here you have suggested selling reina and mascherano. Gone crazy defending lucas when noone is even slating him have said that gerrard intimidates him and doesn’t want him to be the golden boy in fact he would be banging in goals from 30 yards if it wasn’t for gerrard! Now torres needs to be the golden boy! You are slating our 4 world class players and how can you bring lucas into this again? He is played when his performances don’t merit it. Taking away a creative spot from someone like aquilani or babel. His treatment has actually been the exact opposite of babel! Judging by what you have said before your grievance is that he should be played as an attacking midfielder suppose we should be leaving out gerrard? Everyone has the right to an opinion but come on!! No-one has been proved wrong about lucas apart from rafa a year in the first team to progress to what we all thought he would be an average squad player.

Like to see elia at anfield but at expense of babel? NO WAY!!
can sympathize with babel, sooner or later he would have came out with this, a player of his calibre being treated like shit. Always felt that under a wenger or a hiddink babel would be feared as much as torres or villa
Anfield Faithful - November 24th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
And saying that he hasn’t performed when given a chance is utter rubbish. Even when he does do well like setting up goals or scoring screamers he is not given a start in next game. Anyone can tell me when is he given a run of 10-12 games on his preferred right wing to prove his worth? no, u play kuyt there with his hard work ethics(complete crap). What benitez does to him is completely ruin his confidence by playing players like kuyt voronin lucas before him then bring him in last 10 15 min hoping for him to perform divine miracle. Pure pigheadedness and the best way to destroy any player. Why doesn’t benitez go out and manages a club like stoke or hull he will find many workhorses and no creativity players there

Get the whinger out of Anfield asap. It’s not as if it’s the first time he’s bleated about wanting out of Liverpool. He’s been given ample opportunity to show why we bought him, but has rarely shown it, more often than not turning in shit performances – and then expects to still be playing !! What’s worse, too, is speaking to the Daily Lies – shocking ! Well, if he doesn’t want to play for us then get rid – end of.
Hoogleboogybugleboy - November 24th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
When has Ryan Babel ever said that he prefers to play on the right wing? Also, if you really think that what Ryan Babel has contributed so far in his Liverpool career is anywhere near good enough then your expectations are very low. There is more to being a top class professional footballer than running fast, scoring a few goals & setting up a couple. For this latest outburst alone he should never be allowed to wear the shirt again. I find it totally unacceptable.

OK so here’s the deal… As soon as Aquilani is in the team in place of Lucas our season is going to take a turn. We are struggling on attack and Lucas just isnt doing the job from the midfield. He has definately improved but with Rafa pushing him back to a defensive mid role and his obvious nerves and inexperience he just isnt coping and we are getting torn apart as a result. I think the defence will pull itself together soon enough… Its been unstoppable the past few seasons and we has just been a bit shaky with injuries and new fullbacks(Johnson is insane though). I also think babel should be given some time on the right, Kuyt hasnt got the pace or attacking flare and although he works his ass off everygame I feel Babel is a more talented footballer and could definately be molded into a star if Benitez played him. We need to bring Nemeth back and if I would have one signing this summer it would be Lennon(pity it will never happen) YNWA
Rafa holds all the cards now, we have a talented enough squad to compete in all competitions… Yes it may not be as big or as star studded as Chelsea, but I feel United don’t have the greatest squad and they are still their usual… AWESOME. Rafa needs to turn it around or he must go, give him till the summer… No more complaints or questions asked

Kermit I think you are on some hardcore crack, because you are so full of shit it is really unreal. To reply to your comments before making my own let me first say that its not that Benitez knows hes going to be a great that he hasn’t sold Babel, its because his transfer choices have been firmly in the public eye of late and i can’t remember the last time we played a match without a commentator saying, “Oh Benitez has spent over £200m on players.” Yes he has but it has not been given to him in one lump sum were he could build a team from it, hes got £40m here, £20m the next window etc etc etc. Number two he was far from bought because Benitez wanted to keep him from Arsenal(And you must have your head up your ass to think that Babel would even lace the boots of Henry), he was bought because if you remember correctly we were on the verge of signing Malouda when Chelsea beat us to it and Benitez knew he needed a winger before the season started and so went with the ‘Hot-prospect’ of Ryan Babel who was looking good in the Dutch league but as we all know, the Premier League is the hardest league in the world to play in and he has not performed-to say he has the potential of Henry (Laugh out fucking loud) is utterly preposterous and would recommend you keep taking the tablets.
I would also wonder were you get the idea that he wants to play for Liverpool and make himself great, because only last week I told Retryboy this was on the cards and he argued your exact point-which to my great joy has come true. He cares not about Liverpool but that he gets a regular first team place so that he can be picked for the world cup as the Dutch gaffer has said he will only pick players for the international team that are regulars for their club team. This makes me even more annoyed with Babel, because he needs to remember who pays his wages, whether he’s on the pitch or warming the bench- its not the Dutch. And for him to have the audacity to come out and say, after we have waited patiently on him getting his finger out of his ass, that if he does not get picked for the first team he wanted to go on loan to Ajax in January with a view of a permanent move in the summer is simply outrageous.
To say that Babel has not had enough time is also outrageous, he has had more than enough time to prove himself and was getting regular starts last season to no avail.
To say he is a natural right winger is ignorant to the position he played at Ajax. He played on the right for us and was also muck and was replaced by Pennant who stole and kept that place from him. After he noticed he was not progressing on the wings he comes up with the theory that he has been a striker all along, but can’t score goals even when he was played as a full CF and a SS.
I think Babel needs to remember that he is part of a team and not a one man army, Babel is never happy at beating a player-he has to beat 5 or 6. I cannot remember the last time he crossed a ball, always going for the option of right foot step-over, left foot step-over, fake left- then try to turn into the right towards a central position and shoot- which 9/10 times results in him loosing the ball because he couldn’t beat eggs and then we are on the back foot running back to cover his mistakes. I also notice that he watches the ground and not the game because as soon as he is in trouble he will pass it to a player that is already marked or in trouble themselves to try and save face and make the other player look like it was their fault when the opposition scoop up the loose ball, and i think Hermit the kermit and Retryboy get drew in by this trick as if it is talent.
Everyone seems critical of Riera but lets not forget that when he came in and took Babels place we saw crosses again for the first in a long time and when he got the confidence of scoring once, he is now not afraid to have ago given half a sight of goal.
To end, Babel out(In my opinion he should have been gone at the last transfer window) and in Rafa we trust! After all hes only had two hundred and something games and in his first two hundred he is statistically the second or third MOST successful manager of Liverpool Football Club, beating both Wenger and Fergie on their first two hundred games. He has also players we could only dream of like Torres and Reina and lets not forget that Xabi Alonso was only an ok player when we bought him but Benitez knew his potential through watching him play in the Spanish League and brought him under the radar of all the other big clubs, to which he turned out to be one of the best midfielders in the game today. Had we have got Benitezs’ first choice winger (Malouda) instead of Babel the result of the scouts-then we all know that it would be a very different story because Malouda has more than proven he can cope with the hardships of Premier League life.
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
i am not slating them just pointing out their limitationsw and where they could improve, there is a difference, slating someone is saying they are shit full stop not good enough fullstop
maschernao can work in the correct system, but with tweo defesneive midfielders he doesnt offer enough, with one def mid and two acm s then he would be in his element
reina played really well on saturday and he is getting better under the high ball
torres could hold the ball up better and bring midfie3lders into play better
gerrard not so much now i m giving him leeway because of injury, but in the past he has been guilty of trying to play ridicukous killer balls when there are better options ie he was often trying to be xabi alonso,
and yes i don t think we should keep maschernao when he was so des[erate to leave in the summer, people wont perform at their best of they are forced to, that is human nature
lucas isnt taking anyone s spot anywhere , it is benitezz who choses who plays and where
no actually as i have also said i think lucas ought to have been loaned out last year to someone like bolton or blackburn preferably bolton, someplace he d get games and someplace thaqt would seriously toughen him up
and lastseason when lucas was played in place of alonso against fulham, this being the primary game where people slated lucas ( me included , he was woeful that day) and ought never have started in place of xabi, it was not lucas s fault he was left on the field when he was performing so terribly, that is my criticism of benitez, he left him out there to be abused obviously seeing he was having a shit game when he could have easily subbed him brought xabi on put his arm around lucas and smiled and laughed it off that it was not his day
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
babel was the hot prospect chased by mr wenger at the time.
secondly i never said babel was a right winger at ajax , he wasnt a left winger there either, but he has played his best game for us this season from the right, benitez is never going to play with two up front, so babel is never gonna get a game in his preferred position and so to play him left wing when he has no left foot is utterly pointless (this is would think is rafa s error)
.
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
so by your logic rafa bought someone who is a striker to play left wing knowing that he could not cross the ball with his left foot, that makes rafa sound like a total idiot, which i am sure he is not
in rafa i have very little trust
rafa out hiddink in
Anfield Faithful - November 24th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
By saying his preferred right i meant to say that his performance whenever he has played on the right has been loads better than where rafa has usually put him on left. So its common logic that he prefers the right wing. Also if he would’ve been given as much chance as kuyt he would have been one hell of a player by now
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 8:11 pm
Retryboy fair play for tracking Babel’s stats down but i would like to point out one thing, at that is this- If he was playing full 90min games and getting a regular place he would be scoring a goal every ice-age. To show the g/a to time ratio was quite smart on your point, but we could do that with any player who scores a couple of goals a season and does not play full games. Torres wud probably have a lower rating than him given that he plays full matches, can go 3 or 4 games without scoring-and then scores a hat-trick in one match, so therefore for that small scenario he would be getting a goal every 320min or so, but we all know who the better player is…
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 8:22 pm
I did not say Rafa bought a striker to play on the left, Babel’s preferred position from starting football was winger left or right. It was Ajax who introduced him to the thought of being a striker and given the games with them he did score, but as i said ITS THE PREMIER LEAGUE not Dutch-and he couldn’t score in Maghaberry Prison with a fist full of pardons!
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Since when did we all start believing in Guus Kitchensink? Lets not forget that he is extremely good friends with Obramovic and when your manager is having tea parties with the enemy it says it all- IN RAFA WE TRUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Retryboy - November 24th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
On the right he can get to the byline put in quality crosses he is totally rightfooted! It really isn’t brain surgery! John barnes on the right would have been a disaster as lennon was on the left when ramos tried squeezing him and bentley into the same team. Decent manager in Redknapp gives the place to the one who is the attacking threat, with pace. What more could babel do in the 15 minutes he got on the right at west ham apart from a pinpoint cross for the winning goal? The least he deserved was the 90 minutes carling cup game against arsenal there to try it and rafa played kuyt there what did that teach him that he didn’t already know? Kuyt has contributed nothing for months. Babel has earnt the chance.
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
but he can score winner against man u, score a potential winner at lyon
i dont condone kuyt bashing really either though, i think kuyt is knackered, he has played constantly for two seasons, plus hes a goal poacher not a winger especially

anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Lets not forget that the reason Kuyt is playing on the right is because he played on the right in the Dutch squad and was amazing, didnt see Babel doing anything left or right….As i remember he was left puppy eyed on the bench.
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
i m presuming you mean in the euros, but no mate kuyt was woeful for holland playing right wing during those championships. and if i ask any of my dutch mates who would they have in their starting eleven nien out of ten of them will pick babel

Lets not forget that the Dutch National side plays a different game to ours… They are under a different coach with different tactics and the International scene is different to the EPL. Kuyt isnt the man for us on the right
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
I have always said and will say it again Rafa is not the right man for the job
he is a very biased manager
over the past years he has taken players in Liverpool just becoz he liked them as person and thought they would cut in as players, p[layers like Bolo Zenden, He played shit in the Uefa Final, Rafa had him coz he could speak different languages. What a load of crap?
i understand that loyalty is important but loyalty to club not the manager alone
Babel is a brilliant player, and anyone who says otherwise has really got to be joking themselves ….
Babel has said time and again I dont prefer being a winger, I like playing upfront. Than why does Rafa persist on playing him down the flanks.
Rafa said when he bought Babel and when Babel said that he prefers playing upfront that we bought him becoz he played on the left wing at his former although we know he likes playing upfront, but we bought him for wing.
I dont understand Rafa. He was buying Gareth Barry to play on the left wing aswell. Why does Rafa do taht? Why do you buy players of different position to play in your choice of position. Why not just buy a left winger to play on left ?
Ofcourse Babel will not perform well, imagine playing Torres on left wing, he would get pretty mad now wont he and he will not perform well.
And we go blaming Babel. Babel should be played upfront. Babel played on the right with Torres upfront – did you guys saw the connection they both made. It was freaking brilliant. Imagine playing both upfront, they would be fantastic.
But no ! Rafa is stubborn, he will go to any length to prove he was right when he knows he is wrong. Liverpool is the losing entity is his childish behaviour.
We have a list of great Liverpool and World Legends, who know the game and the club a lot better than Rafa Benitez. Get them in and take him out.
I dont understand why you guys are so much loyal to Rafa Benitez, and reject having a Liverpool Legend serve as our manager. Rafa won just the Champions League and FA major ones. And that was if anyone remembers just becoz of Steven Gerrard. Yes another of our own. Rafa’s tactics were failing in both. Gerrard saved him the embarrassment.
Why would you trust in a manager who would fail tactically and have his captain to get him out of the hole every time ?
I wouldnt so tell me why would you ?

And what do the Dutch no about the Premiership, and I am going to check it now but as I remember he scored six goals in two matches and got them a qualification place. I do agree that Babel has talent, just not enough for the Premier League. At the start of the season he complained because he had only played 6mins of football and was the only player dropped from the starting XI-but he was the most woful player on the pitch and deserved to be dropped, can’t blame Benitez for that now can we…I think he does not have enough willpower for the Premiership either, when he came remember him saying that it was God that was making him play well, think he forgot to put a few bob in the collection tin or something because i think God is no longer with him…At least with Kuyt if he is not playing well he is still giving a 100% effort, even if it is just chasing shadows it shows hes trying- if Babel is not playing the well he knocks the cunt of the teddy and throws it out of the cot, he lets his frustration show and effects his play, would Mike Tyson have been so good if he let frustration into his game and gassed on the first round? A true professional does not, he keeps a lid on it- Gerrard is a fine example you can tell when he is frustrated but it does not hinder his game…
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
I think to say that he is a bad ‘tacticoner’ is fooling yourself. A man that can win the Champions League with Valencia, and then again with us is far from bad at tactics, and a man that takes us to only two defeats in a season???As Wenger said, with the British media swaying the thoughts of fans and followers alike you need to be going well all the time, people very quickly forget the past as i think you are. Its a rocky spell but I think we will get fourth spot, if we go out of the Champions League we will be very likely to win the Europa League which last year produced more money for the top 3 than the Champions League did in their top 3 and I think if these Americans finally give us the money they promised then Benitez will bring more world-class talent to the club both in January and in the summer transfer window.
IN RAFA WE TRUST!

Babel shows signs of absolute genius, for a sub he puts some goals away but how can you to rate a player who is constantly played out of position and on the left!… if Rafa played babel up front with torres or just behind on a regular basis i reckon we’d all see a quick and dramatic experience!

gary mcallister didn t see any point in any of the substitutions and neither did i , it was like some sick joke putting aquaman on for thirty seconds. i am lost for words and rafa has lost the plot
that was a shambolic performance , one which we needed to win by four goals to give ourselves a better chance against fiorentina should they have drawn tonight, we got the perfect start and then we were inept, having lucas on the field was genuinely pointless esp with aquilani on the bench.
instead we ended up clinging on against the worst team i have ever seen in the champions league, not good enough, nowhere near good enough.
thanks and goodbye rafa

after beating debrecen 1-0 i am starting to really get FUCKING annoyed with benitez why he didn’t make a change at 60 mins for someone like benayoun or aquilani and why he put aquilani on for the last 45 seconds.
just like the birmingham and city match took the lead then didnt offer any attacking threat,
to often when dirk kuyt gets the ball he has a bad touch ot tries to get away from a defender and gets tackled or puts in a bad cross.
at the end of last year we where attacking even when 3 or 4 -0 up, now we sit back and try to counter after 1-0 up and that will only work with speedy attackers and when we have gerrard and torres playing together.
starting to more and more want Benitez out.

and hes crying at the smallest little thing saying “kuyt looks like he understands the spanish lads jokes” so fucking what ryan try actually being a team player, pass the fucking ball rather than trying to run round countless defenders coz you cant do it, you mess up shot after shot in front of goal.
Kermit says if he went to arsenal he would be great now, let me tell you this no matter what team he goes too he will still be a nobody, he might look alright playing at a smaller club against smaller clubs but he doesnt cut it in the prem, truth be told he was a waste of money and he will be a waste of money for any team that buys him…….if any1 actually wants him

1) too defensive
2) 2 holding mids all the bloody time
3) Not giving aquilani enough time (surely 1 month of full training is enought to play 45 mins or start at least as much as gerrard
4) Sticking with zonal marking
5) Being so stubborn
6) Playing dirk kuyt every match when we need some creativity
7) Ruining Babels talent (also babels fault in a way)

Guys my mates my dad and bro are united fans – ive already had 5 text!… at the end of the day qualifying was out of our hands… if lyon had one we’d all be singing a different song but fact of the matter is we should never have been in the position to start with and this season is getting even worse… the way things are going at the moment we’ll be fighting for a champions league place come May!.. Rafa will be gone if things dont pick up, and Real wont be interested if he keeps this style of play going much longer
Digger - November 24th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
kermit kenny is too out of touch but saying that i think we need a old fashion manager who will put there arm round players and give them that passion…. some where on here i read that isn’t it strange that alot of people have issues with rafa, keane, hyphia, bellamy, crouch, riera, babel, finnan, alonso, etc etc there seems to be a common theme that he rubed them the wrong way…. i don’t know i’ve always been a big rafa fan because i remember the evans/houllier days of being continually beaten by teams like auxerrre….rafa made us a force in europe, but since the yanks came in things have just got worse and worse…..but can i still blame the yanks for benetez playing two def midfielders and 1 upfront…….not any more…..please leave rafa
Danski_LFC9 - November 24th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
reckon we should tap up Mourinho or Hiddink…. knowing the yanks we’ll probabily get southgate or McLaren on the cheap.
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
ive had enough of rafa , were out i know but lets go out with class go and win 4-0 or 5-0 against a very poor side but no, 2 defensive midfielders kuyt still in the team , waste of 20 million yet again first keane now aquilani not saying hes bad i like him but hes not even getting in the team whats the point of signing someone who cost 20 million i know hes been injuried but hes actually been in full training for a month now no start rafa out if he stays the only way gerrard will see the CL again if he leaves liverpool rafa and his discisions are killing our club, im actually embarrassed to be a liverpool fan tonight
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
i dont suggest kenny in charge , i suggest kenny in charge til the end of the week til we can find someone suitable, having kenny as manager would be a backward step in my opinion.
and mclaren is doing really well at fc twente, but the british press would maul him all the time , so not a good option , good manager though
Digger - November 24th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
but would hiddick take this job????? ok its no poisoned chalice like newcastle but with the yanks digging there heels in and dragging the club further in debt would any other manager be involved in a set up where there is obviously no money available without selling….
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
i d be on the phone to hiddink right now if i was one of the two yanks
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
i think he would , its a big challenge, it d be a big challenge for him, and there no money anywhere in football except city and madrid.
Digger - November 24th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
kermit please mclaren is awful i would rather have george graham……
Danski_LFC9 - November 24th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
The special one would take it… the yanks would give him enough to buy a few decent signings and expect him to win something… as soon as money starts coming in from competition the budget will go up so they can make a tidy profit by selling a huge club in a great position… they business men who know they need to speculate to accumilate…they just dont trust rafa in the market based on past signings (except torres)
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
mclaren has fc twente flying in the dutch league, i mnot saying i would pick him as a manger because the british press would destroy him after his time with england, but i still think he is a good boss
fc twente are top of the dutch league, fc twente are no one in holland, and he has them top fo the league. he s a good manager just he s not right for us, we need a big big name to keep our top stars happy, torres especially
Digger - November 24th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
all i know is rafa needs to go now…… i loved hollier but it was time to take us to another level…..we need man management we have a core of really great players, reina, carra, agger, johnson, masch, aquilani, gerrard and torres….i mean that ain’t bad.
Danski_LFC9 - November 24th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Liverpool is still the 2nd biggest club in the world… he’d only have to win the prem once to become a legend… and he’d have a job where he can begin his own fergie style legacy! which is exactly what he wants.
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
agreed , we have a core of very good players who need someone to unite them, and it doesnt seem like benitez is capable of this at the moment
i think mourinho would be great but we wouldnt get him at the moment, hiddink is a realistic possibilty and does wonders with teams.
Retryboy - November 24th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Purslow has said rafa’s future will not be decided on european results but domestic. Pluses ngog grows in confidence, nearly got another… Everyone got through unscathed and actually gerrard looked totally free in his movement for the first time in a while. Negatives-this is debrecen 7th in hungarian league, £1.5m a year budget, battered by lyon and fiorentina about the equivalent of a 1st division team. Aquilani again we had total control of possession against a weak team why do we need 2 DCM’s? Half a minute lol that’ll do his match fitness wonders. Total negativity from rafa…we created chances but none clear cut, never carved them open as we would do with pace and creativity as mccallister said all our attacks are so slow gives them plenty of time to get organised and in position. This is so typical of rafa’s tactics we will always give teams that belief they will get something against us no matter how poor they are. Debrecen should have buried their chance at the end and the fact that they were that confident in a game that we had all the possession in they went 4-4-2 says it all. Damage was already done but this performance still typifies where we are under rafa.
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
in aqaulinis contact it has a clause 2 pay to r oma after a amount of games played so why would u play him for 30 secs when it costs us transfer money we dont even have
Digger - November 24th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
you know kermit, fair play but then you could say the same about steve nicol……i’ll tell you who i would really love in my top three:
Gus Hiddink
Martin Jol
Martin O’neil
and outside one would be roy hodgeson………god how about toshack????
and kermit souness won in the scottish league and the turkish league and he made an awful manager..
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
babel could be a fantastic player, if he kept his had in the game, i’ll use lyon part 2 as an example.
scores a blinding goal, strength, accuracy sheer class.
then makes several blunders. thats why he doesn’t play too often, i fhe concentrated more on playing the game than shooting his mouth off then maybe he’d get somewhere.
i mean kuyt plays in lots of positions, as does gerrard, you adapt yourself. if you can’t play in more than 1 position then you learn.
michael owen couldn’t head the ball, what did he do, he tried harder on the training ground. hes still shite but got better, babel just needs to prove his worth on the training ground, maybe then he’d get picked a bit more…………………
Digger - November 24th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
this is a good time to get a new manager…..there are some great ones around…..
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
matrin jol was someone i was just thinking about, he did a great job at spours and hodgson knows his football also
my favourite would be capello but that would involve waiting til summer and i was content to do that until this week
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
to anon at 11 32 , we just need a new manager, we already have a squad capable of winning the league
Ryan Babel - November 24th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
The only players that look like scoring out of nothing or creating something out of nothing are gerrard and torres maybe aquilani and babel but apart from tht no one.
Kuyt, Ngog, benayoun will score simple goals like ngog’s today.
Then uve gt players who will basically never score like voronin, insua, lucas, mascherano.
I would like mourinho.ASAP
anonymous - November 24th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
Yanks out! RAfa out! And finaly we are out of CL!!!! We are probably out of Pl!!!!!! And there is only hope: FA cup, (eventualy UEFA cup…). Will we celebrate some PL title,AGAIN?!
rassell - November 24th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
I couldn’t agree with kermit and retryboy more the kid is class we have four world class players in the whole squad and they are torres, gerrad, riena and babel and no matter what anyone else said the rest of the squad is a joke yeah carra was very good for us but he has slipped recently and mr mascerano well he is class but i hate ppl who have no such thing as loyalty in their dictionary and he is that. Alonso was great but he has gone, so i say time up for mr benitez and the rest of the squad just keep these four and blood some of the youngsters through nemeth, pacheo, kelly……
keep aggar, skertl, benayun, aquillani, gerrad, torres, babel, ngog, reina, johnson and get rid of the rest of the so called first 11 keep carra cos i love the guy as a liverpool fan on the bench and later on the coaching staff.
but players like kuyt, mascherano(because of his attitude),insua, aurillo, riera, dossena and also lucas, he has shown improvement but not good enough to be a true reds player….get rid of them all along with raffa and the yanks, bring in the arrabs and also moriniho or hidink.
Digger - November 24th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
ryan babel…..mourinho see’s himself bigger than the club i just think he’s a ok manager but he doesn’t really stay anywhere long whats he really done in inter milan, he’s had the money to do what he wants….,hiddink is the best bet….lets not forget the team is practically the same one we had last year when zonal marking was working brilliantly, there seems to be a lack of confidence in the team where we used to really get in ther the old team of last year would have ripped this champ league group apart, what lyon, fiorentina and debrecen????? who???? but this team is lacking confidence and it shows… a change needs to occur and i think in the managment would be the best place to start…. i hate when paople get on lucus’s back becuase i think that guy along with ngog has been the most improved player this season…
we need another some quality instead of quantity…..you look at some benches like man city the other day they had tevez and adebay on the bench, united can at least stick on owne or berba, spurs have a whole host of players that can turm a game… we have no creativity and prefer to have players who can play multiple positions…..we need a REAL RIGHT WINGER….. and a QUALITY STRIKER>>>>>>>>>its that simple
kermit - November 24th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
since benitez got full control of the club we have been useless, he asked for full control he got it now we are utter shit
Donavan Ried - November 25th, 2009 at 12:26 am
You know, at this moment i don’t really care who Rafa sign …….They will only get a game if
(1) Rafa likes them…..
(2) If it’s not a head of a play he likes …..
How the F*uk He can have Aquilani on the bench and Lucas playing is beyoned me …..
Either Aquilani is still injuried and Rafa is lying In which case he should be sack, or he as spent £20.5m on a player the does not really rate, in which case he should be sacked …..What a joke
Will read these 135 posts tomorrow
rassell - November 25th, 2009 at 12:35 am
We as liverpool fans should always want attacking, flowing football like we had at the end of last season, it was as if raffa had taken the leash off an wounded tiger and we were ripping into team like back in the golden days, why can’t this idiot see that is when we are at our best, that is when there is no place like anfield…thats the football we all want.
get him out, but as a attacking and flowing football manager scolari wouldn’t be bad, he had chelsea playing some real good stylish footie, but somthing went wrong but he has done it both for brazil and also portugal.
he will also bring some big names into the club
kermit - November 25th, 2009 at 12:35 am
benitez is the only joke at liverpool
benitez out anyone with a brain in
kermit - November 25th, 2009 at 12:36 am
it needs a big name manager to be brought in to keep hold of torres
Retryboy - November 25th, 2009 at 12:59 am
Agreed got to be a big name, but a manager who would want to be here long term, is available, plays attacking football… That is why i would so love to wake up tomorrow and see rafa gone and Mancini in he ticks all the boxes for me. He dominated the italian league with inter the whole time he was there. 3 titles 6 domestic cups in 6 years in management, young, wants to manage in england has even been learning english for ages, freed himself from his inter contract when he heard possible vacancies here and madrid, can handle big names, would be in for the long term so youth would get through. The in rafa we trust brigade is keeping that plum in a job though and dooming their club in the process, the owners are too scared to sack him. Donovan keep telling you aquilani is fit!! He takes part in every full training session!! Has done for the last month rafa likes 2 defensive midfielders its that simple!!
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 1:09 am
Rafa is the correct man for the job! You don’t throw the baby out with the dish water on the back of one sub par season ! You continue eliminate the problems and let the manager carry on.
Last year the Arsenal fans where calling for Wengers head, 4 years ago the united fans were calling for Fergies head. Look at them now!
This is a long term problem about finance and ownership not poor management!
As for Babel? I do feel he makes a few valid points! Kuyt, Lucas and Insua have hardly covered themselves in glory this year and they still get to play week in and week out. For me Kuyts form and general touch and control of a ball are bordering on criminal. What’s Rafa got to lose by giving Babel a go on the right?
However after this last outburst to the scum I think babel may now have removed any sympathy the liverpool fans may have had for him!
kermit - November 25th, 2009 at 1:09 am

i am losing faith to liverpool fc now..this is the worst liverpool season that ive seen.we need to get a new manager.i really dont believe that liverpool will qualified for european places next season.even top 4 in epl this season seem imposibble.if were didnt get top 4 this season, i suggest that benitez need to be replaced.SAVING LIVERPOOL F.C.
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 9:27 am
Bloody hell nice long spread of comments here.
Babel is a quality player but doesn’t seem to have the heart of a true red. He doesn’t show emotion or appear to be trying 100% but then does Berba, Drogba, Adebayor……no but they all provide something to the team.
People and himself argue that he wants to play up top, but he didn’t seem bothered when he played there for Holland against England which is probably the best performance I’ve seen of his.
Babel has now shown a handful of games where he has shown what he can do, Derby in his first season, Arsenal in Champ League, Lyon this season. There isnt a great deal of games where he has stood out.
If goes then so long, he’s not provided that much for us anyway. If he stays, lets start turning that potential into something more than just whinging in the scum rag!
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 9:29 am

5 brothers who support utd. Im the only one out of 8 boys who supports liverpool and i WAS born in manchester and taken to watch george best and co when I was young. It didnt work.
Kermit
There you go again lol rafa being the only joke at anfield? Ok again your opinion but ill be honest `im really begining to wonder and you make me think deep. Which would you choose for you to be proved right about rafa or for you to be proved wrong. If you had a choice that it. dont take this the wrong way but your critism of rafa has been more than over the top my friend for sometime. Even when we win. Theres no pleasing you mate and I mean that in a nice way. we won yesterday and you are still shouting for him to leave. We are in the europa cup which is something. We have the F A cup to play for and 4th spot . Time to regroup. Ill support rafa through the season and make up my mind at the end. Its the liverpool or rather my way. but at the end of the day its the owners who will make that decision not me. I`m laughing now because i like your passion but it comes across as if it lacks loyalty and is personal as well as your persistance to be proved right.
Your already a lord what more do you want. I agree with your idea of rafa glooming his young talent. Actually it was my idea many months back but i`ll let you have it lol.But lets be fair we now have Lucas insua and ngog in there. kerry looks the part (right back ) but only so many can play. 3 out of 11 aint bad mate .
You`ve mentioned previously about how much rafa has spent mm lets see 230 mil in 5 years. Ok thats a fact but you dont mention in 5 years hes recouped 145 mil in sail and hence is 85 mil only in the red. so that means he spent 15 mil on average each year since hes been here. Now if you look at the SPCE BOYS SQUAD that we had before and what we have now. im sure ull find weve improved as a squad. Another factor that hasnt been mentioned is rafa has Generated more than 100mil from euro glory. so mmm hes balanced the books there mate. and I wont even go into the current price of torress on the market now afterall rafa did buy him. So financially he helped the club not cost us and at the end of the day if he does go at end of the season the least hell deserve is a 20 mil handshake if sacked. MY OPINION.
rassell
You missed johnson he is class to mate and moaning or waiting to leave so is argy masch.
attacking and flowing football I agree but those players need to take responsibility especially the senior players.these are the guys defending on the pitch. The manager hasnt changed and neither has his tactics. There alot of people who should hold up their hands not just rafa.
Digger i`dd
I said it 2 months ago if we are offerred 40 mil for Argy masch id drive him to pain myself. For the good of the team. I think realistically he`ll go for 30 mil anything above is a bonus and lucas can then make that role his own. Hes ready and it will make us a more offessive team.
Babel
It doesnt matter whether aquilani played or not. we won full stop. hes part of the squad and so is lucas. The team should be respected and this is doing more good for lucas confidence.
And on the subject of your name. Babel should take a leaf out of Ngogs professionalism and the way he has developed. Lets be honest if we bought babel for one mil he wouldnt be moaning as he has been doing 2 years or not!!
uys only 11 players can play in a team, just like the England team I hear thousands choosing our team, cool its about opinion but hey whats cost us is our poor defending. This has been our biggest issue and surprises me thast that isnt our main talk of discussion.
Work from the back sort out the defence and the rest will come.
Its not hard.
THE CHOSEN ONE - November 25th, 2009 at 10:49 am
Well rafa has set the bench mark to hang himself. if we dont get top four hell be sacked. If we just scrape through he may be as the club may decide to take another direction.

BABEL YOU WROTE
Ryan Babel – November 24th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
1) too defensive
I AGREE WITH YOU THERE. AWAY FROM HOME I CAN UNDERSTAND IT BUT AT ANFIELD ID HAVE A MORE ATTACKING LINE UP.
2) 2 holding mids all the bloody time
WELL THAT THE REASON WHY HE IS TOO DEFENSIVE
3) Not giving aquilani enough time (surely 1 month of full training is enought to play 45 mins or start at least as much as gerrard
IF HE DID PLAY AND GOT INJURED WED SAY HES INJURY PRONE. YOU CANT WIN EITHER WAY. i THINK HES TAKING THE PRESUURE OF HIM MYSELF. GETTING THE TEAM PLAYING WELL FIRST.
4) Sticking with zonal marking
ITS WORKED ALL THE TIME HES BEEN AT ANFIELD . IT DOESNT NEED TO STOP. IT JUST NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED OR ADAPTED.
5) Being so stubborn
TELL ME A WORLD CLASS MANAGER WHO ISNT.? WENGER , RED NOSE FACE TAGGOT, MOURINHO ETC
6) Playing dirk kuyt every match when we need some creativity
FAIR POINT BUT CREATIVITY DOESNT COME FROM THE RIGHT WING ONLY AND AT TIMES KUYT WORK RATE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE GAME COMPENSATES JOHNSONS ATTACKING MINDEDNESS.
7) Ruining Babels talent (also babels fault in a way)
YES I AGREE GOOD POINT
Having torres then ngog then who? Ngog does ok but then only young should only use kuyt as a backup ST
MMM NOT SURE ABOUT THAT
9)Injuries Injuries Injuries
any more??
IS INJURIES HIS FAULT?
Retryboy - November 25th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
The chosen one-a lot seems to be escaping you at the moment so this may be a long post-”we win and its still not enough” we scraped a 1-0 win over a team equivalent to 1st division, with a £1.5m yearly budget that lyon and fiorentina wiped the floor with and even if lyon had got a result it wouldn’t have been good enough because we would have had to beat fiorentina by 3 goals…”it was your idea months back to groom the young talent” despite not wanting to take credit for something sounding so wrong lol been saying this for years have insua, ngog, lucas got their chance because they are the best young players? Or because aurelio/dossena were injured rafa spent £6m on lucas and voronin is the biggest flop in history? Kellys main position is CB where we also have ayala yet kyrgiakos was signed. Kelly got his chance at RB due to johnson and degen being injured. When we signed degen, dossena, kyrgiakos, voronin the players we all want gone now it annoyed me because we had darby, insua, kelly, ayala, nemeth all ready to take their place in the squad. They have inferior players taking up their opportunities in the squad and they are left waiting for 3 injuries in the same position before they get a chance even then carragher is moved to RB before darby gets a shot. The fact that rafa has recouped a lot of the £239.5m simply means the owners have given him every penny back from transfers plus £80m on top! He has still spent £239.5m! On a squad that already had gerrard, carragher, Hyppia, riise, Finnan. “babel” 15 minutes on the right this season one assist “kuyt”18.5 hours on the right one assist! Babel has every right to be sick to the back teeth of benitez favourites as we have with lucas being picked over aquilani. One creative player in a team and one striker any game is ridiculous but in a game we had to score goals in is pathetic. Aquilani needs match fitness what better game to get that match fitness than a pub side who give you time to play the game at walking pace which is good for the likes of kuyt and lucas.
kermit - November 25th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
to the chosen one, we won yesterday
we clung on yesterday against the worst team that has ever played in the champions league, our midfield was creatively inept, lucas shouldnt have been playing, aquilani was brought on for thrity seconds of football
we scored after 4 mins, perfect i thought now lets fucking batter them and outthem tro bed before half time, nope
we were fucking rubbish, lucas was fucking rubbish, we had no pace in attack , the speed of our counter attacks was so slow my granny in her wheelchair could have caught them up, ngog off benayoun on, did anyone else gasp at the screen at that point.
then aurelio off dossena on, i strongly feel dossens should have started wide left , he s a more attacking option than aurelio, who is anice footballer in possesion but last night he was rubbish, his freekick delivery, his supposed strength was absolutely fucking brutal.
two defenssive midfielders playede when we needed to win four nil?????? hello
mascherano was defensively immense last night, my man of the match really because there were n t too many to pick from , maybe debrecen s number ten, to be totally honest debrecen should have scored at the end, its one thing being bossed by man city and their new found riches at anfield but being bossed by the dregs of europe is a joke. premiership teams will be watching this thinking , christ if we have a go at liverpool we can have them. and whats more on that performance they are right.
i am a huge fan of lucas and i still believe he will be a huge player but he isnt a player for us now , he needs loaning out like yesterday and yes i have changed my tune somewhat, but we need someone in midfield there for now.
loan lucas to bolton for a year. but i think lucas suffers more because of benitez s tactics than his own lack of abilty
aquilani wh needs games and match fitness gets thrity seconds, not onlythis he doesnt actually play for the reserves like all other players do when needing match fitness and game time. i wonder why this is
fuck this fuck benitspaz
kermit - November 25th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
i dont need pleasing ,i need my team to play with some heart and desire with some pride and passion and i would expect my team knowing they need to win 4-0 to give themselvfes any realistic chance of qualification to go out and thump this team 4-0
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
The Chosen One:
Thank you for adding your voice of reason to this sea of misery and negativity. We shall overcome the injuries, more young talent will gradually become available, maybe some money could be found (from sales of unwanted players, or found internally) to plug the holes on the defence, which I agree is our worst problem. I’m afraid it will be more difficult to change the opinions of the “unwashed” who are now used to xenophobically blame all their problems on the designated scapegoat from Spain .To bad the schools don’t teach the benefits of realistic approach in life. We have no “God given right” to expect only victories, just because we support and love our great club.
kermit - November 25th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
johnson wasnt himself last night either , he rarely got forward
gerrard slowly finding his fitness again
aquilani is a big boy if he cant handle the pressures of being a 20 million pound player and do what he was bought for to add some passing abilty to our team then he ought nt have been bought
gerrard norbenayoun had trained for ten days in the lead up to the city game, aquilani has been training for a month and by all account brilliant in training
watch he ll be thrown in the derby and get his leg broken
benitez out
kermit - November 25th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
t the chosen one, to be totally honest four games ago i was all for keeping benitez til the end of the season and then breaking the bank to bring in capello, i still secretly think this might happen, and i would be delighted if this was what was on the yanks mind
and in terms of loyalty, my loyalty isn t too rafa beitez , its to liverpool fc, no man or manager is bigger than that , i am sick of my frusttrations every week, i am sick of screaming at the tv for substitutions to be made while watching teams start to grow in confidence.
i am tired of benite z ineptitude in reading how a game is developing and his procratination in making adequate changes, yes he has had a lot of injuries and yes i understand this, but this season isnt the firswt time i have questioned benitez. the thing si comlain about now are the same things i complained about last season when we got beaten
everytime we got beaten last year was benitez s fault , not the players, he seems to fail to read the game frm the sidelines
quote against lyon he said he didnt want to bring on aquilani because he didnt want to change things with lucas and masch in midfield, when the whole world and their mother could see a creative player was needed
against manchester city i called the city goals mins before they happened, if i could see this future if changes werent made then why the hell couldn t he
last night, debrecen growing in confidence , and we were sorely needing someone to pout hs foot on the ball and stamp his authority on the game( thats what we have lost in alonso, not his great passing abilty but his authority), lucas is too young and way too lakcing in confidence to have this sort of authority . he will i feel have it in future but right now he doesn t. he is a boy being asked to do a man s job in midfield.
i am unsure now if aquaman will be the solution i know he is an intelligent elegeant footballer but what is mist needed in midfield is authority, masch has it but masch wwill rarely dominate a game and come past the half way line.
the hope is that a midfield triangle of masch in behind gerrard and aquilani will do it, thats what we are all i am sure hoping for.
and yes like others i am worried about aquilanis strength ansd vulnerabilty and his proneness to injuries and is this why benitez is keeping him out of the team.if so then i would refer to donovans point questioning why he would spend 20 million on a guy he knows to be injury prone to replace alonsos ever present midfield strength. i dont know i do know i am not happy and i certainly feel benitez makes shit of some very taleneted footballers, robbie keane, ryan babel, and it was on the back of a row with alonso that he left.
and to those who say wengers head was called for and he wasnt sacked nor was fergie
well two wins in 11 games is not what mr wengers team produced during that time
how much worse does it have to get before he is sacked, beaten 6-0 by everton, would he be sacked then??? if so i would nearly take the 6-0 beating to stop the month of frustration i have to look forward to

Retryboy my lord. yes it was the lyon game that doomed us not really this one. yes you have many points and alot of those players you`ve suggested deserve time on the few. A few of them I dont think are good material.
I see both sides of the argument and trust me I scream in private as much as anybody else. But with all rafa faults and I agree he has many i also see a team that got within 4 points of winning the title last year. maybe with quite a bit of luck which I agree but he did it this way. i see the same players minus alonso but with glen johnson and the roman and feel we are better equipped.
Fact is results havnt gone our way and yes rafa has tyo carry the cabn but the players on that field should be good enough and should equally taker the blame as well as the owners for promising rafa more money and then changing their minds. this cuopled wioth injuries are also factors. `im not saying everything is rosey because it definately isnt.
Voronin and Degem was bought for nothing if im not mistaken and yes I agree others should be playing instead of them those are fair points but im also looking for positives out of all this mess which helps with the bigger picture in my opinion.
You and many others may be right about rafa and maybe we need a change but if I owned Liverpool fc id first see how we play and stats on us when 90 percent of the team are back. If their is no improvement then ……………
If you remember Rafa wanted to buy sameo from benfica but their was lack of funds some years back. Alves the brazilian and their was lack of funds. he also enquired about tevez who chose Man city. Rumour has it he wanted David but was told he couldnt have him too expensive and was going for silva till it was leaked and scrapped. When hes given on average 17 mil a year he can only sell to buy.
But agree with you totally about some of those youngsters and yes i suppose we all can take the credit lol
the money does seem alot i admit but not spread over the 5 years. if you look he had to sell bellemy to buy torress. and so on.
Yep the performance has been poor but I still state in my opinion judge him at the end of the season or after easter.
You can always tell how good a player is by what we buy him for and what we sell him for. ill say well get more than 6 mil for lucas if he goes.
Part of me does feel we have become stagnant like we did with his predocessor.
Time will tell.

Donavan Ried - November 25th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
This is one of my pet peves with Rafa ….. If you want someone for the left wing, go buy a left winger ….. Babel plays on the right wing, Kuyt as a striker just because they can do a job there does not mean it the best position for them …… Poor J A Riise was a left sided winger who found himself being moved to left back. Now it’s the only position any team will cinsider him for
What next play Pepe Reina in the Gerrard role because of all his assists???
Said it two seasons ago Babel will never get any real chance under Rafa …..
RyanO – November 24th, 2009 at 4:41 pm ….. you stated that ……”I saw a player with NO HEART, NO DESIRE and NO PRIDE IN THE CREST beg off the pitch FOR NOTHING! This lad cares nothing about Liverpool, the supporters or the manager,” ……. This was a player that played decent football and looked to be staking a claim in the starting line up three seasons or so back. ….. I remember him scoring a 35-40 yard screamer against Chelsea after coming on for Torres ….. What happened to that player …. He was not given the chances to prove himself, 5 mins here,10 there ……. Rafa has no idea of how to man manage players …… Can I blame Babel?…… No you play your heart out and never gets pick …. and when you do and someone dives in two foot, Babel must have thought ….. “F*ck,this, if i break a leg i’ll miss the World Cup, for sure, and for what??? A Manage that doesn’t give a shit”…..
Someone had to speak out. Babel tried to in private. When that did not work he took a page from Rafa’s book and went public ….. Well Done Ryan
and thinking

Our problem at the moment is that Agger & Skirtel are both rubbish in the air. I asked my mate last year, when Sami was still here, who is the best in the air.? Answer Big Sami.
Who is the best defensive cover. Answer. Carra.
Then why does Raffa not play them then I asked.!
The left back, Insua, is one of the worst I’ve seen in a LFC shirt. He’s not quick, good in the air and ball watches.
From the beginning of the season, every team we’ve played have targeted him from goal kicks, free kicks etc.
That says it all.
Midfield. The mistake made this season was to not spend the 20 mill on a player who could play from the word go. Unbelievable.
I’ve always argued that Gerrard is the best middle of the midfield man in the world. He can dominate the opponents and can spot a pass.
We play 2 defensive midfielders even if we played someone out of the 2nd division and we were at home.
Nobody in the prem is scarred of Liverpool anymore coz we’re so defensive.
Gone are the days when we flew at teams from the word go. They know that when they come to Anfield at the moment, we’re going to sit back for long periods and let them have the ball.
Lets get back to 4-4-2 and have a go at teams again.
Any money to spend in jan should be on a dominant centre half, sell Skirtel he’s terrible, and a world class left back.

Chosen one- guess it comes down to level of patience, at the end of last season was expecting the clear out of itandje, degen, dossena, voronin, lucas(to be honest) 4/5 of those are on everyones lists still and still don’t rate lucas highly but worth keeping as a squad player voronin/dossena were always popular in ger/ita so would have bought in £10m(no matter what some people believe) the other £5m max but its still £15m for one quality player. I wanted this to be the year for nemeth, darby, ngog, insua, kelly, ayala, pacheco, to take their places not as first teamers but as squad members ahead of those mentioned. So already pre-season patience was thin the nemeth out kyrgiakos in was a double blow sending our best prospect out and leaving voronin. kyrgiakos in the way of kelly/ayala/san jose all better players and we are talking about 4th choice here not 1st. The carling cup against leeds saw only spearing played and a team with an average age of 27 higher than our first team! Against arsenal the age came down due to plessis, ngog, spearing, insua but plessis, spearing weren’t played because they were the best talent rather because rafa had no other fit midfielders and so we again go through the cup blooding only spearing and plessis oh and Eccleston got 5 minutes. Have cried out for years to play babel on the right he gets 15 mins against west ham and wins us the game and is never played there again. Our style has gone more and more defensive now it is just ridiculous. Rafa’s team selections and subs are mad and even the people that defend him can see this. They’re pulling their hair out too but then they start making excuses for him. I really think that its because after Kenny the massive flops that followed, we saw finally a quality manager and whilst he is no doubt better than houllier, souness, evans it would really be hard not to be. All the managers before were given too much time because of the liverpool way people blame them for rafa’s mess now but the same eternal optimism will bring more disaster.
kermit - November 25th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
and to the chosen i would happily be wrng about rafa to win the league, but last season was his best chance and he blew it , it will take one or two seasons to gte back near that again with him in charge and thats one or two seasons too long, especially with the emergence of manchester city, who will eventually dominate the prmeiership through buying power
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
hey kermit come on what Rafa blew last season, thats a bit harsh mate…. but look chosen one, (hope the cars sorted now, by the way), the reason i have changed from being a massive supporter of rafa to now thinking he should go is this:
1} He does make some silly sub, (such as aurelio for insua….), why when we need to get another goal.
2) he is extremely defensive and plays 2 def midfielders in games against debrecen and birmingham…and please anyone who says he was forced into this due to aqua mans injury. he could have played gerrard in a deeper role ahead of masch and then played benni as a ss/attacking midfielder role
3) for continually playing kuyt, a player who i love as a fan, but is just not good enough and has the worst first touch i have ever seen since i saw justtin edinborogh in the late 90’s playing for spurs….
4) not bringing in a striker, i just don’t understand how we didn’t swap alonso for some of there players, i thought snieder / negredo / vdv / hunteler / robben might of been involved…i just don’t see how this didn’t happen any one of those players would heve been great and we were in such a good position as they wanted alonso…
5) not starting beniyoun in every game, the guy is class and needs to be one of the first names on the team sheet he is the only player, aprart from torres and gerrard, who can rip defenses.
THE CHOSEN ONE - November 25th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
Guys I hear ya.
the car i think is sorted and yes alot of valid points. im not hear to dispute the undisputable. Rafa for now is staying like it or not. How he handles the situation is up to him. i hope he comes good. if he doesnt then hes off end off.
i think my car is ok now thanks guys and I didnt watch the 2nd half but knew the last 15 min would be hard for us.
which ever way it is yes its liverpool first and lets see. my point has always been to trust him when hes the manager with all his faults. if he messess up then im sure hell be given the sack.
Till that time reaches. come on rafa do us proud!!]
touch wood.
Retryboy - November 25th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
Getting back to the original point know it has been long lost by now but babel actually gave the interview to a dutch magazine who posted it on their website. The editor has confirmed that the sun ‘lifted’ the quotes from there.

lets face the fact liverpool has not really been impresive this season. Idont know how to explain it but think ill luck is part of it. I am an ardent supporter from nigeria and i must confess being a liverpool supporter is not an easy thing. ONE THING though is that THE Team should live up to its billing and go all out to salvage the remaining of what is left this season. I still believe WE can make it. LIVERPOOL FOR EVER
