Gabriel Agbonlahor Aston Villa 2008/09

Failing that, the new new Henry would be Gabriel Agbonlahor, the £17m-rated Aston Villa speed-merchant for whom Wenger may move in the summer if he manages to remain consistent. (Guardian)

The one stumbling block preventing a great deal of interest in the Aston Villa striker in recent years has been the lack of consistency shown by Gabriel Agbonlahor up until 18 months or so when he started to perform well regularly and found the back of the net far more often than in his early days at Villa Park. Some would perhaps point to the fact that the 23 year old manages to scrape a dozen goals a season and therefore isn’t exactly prolific without taking into account the other facets to his game.

I can see why Arsene is looking into such a move and it could well be a goer but they will have one hell of a fight on their hands to persuade Martin O’Neill to cash in on the England international. Wenger may be looking to add more English players into his armoury ahead of the up coming ‘homegrown’ Premier League guidelines.

Other members of the top four club may also be interested in getting involved in a potential bidding war but Gabriel may feel he has more of a chance of making an impact at Arsenal as opposed to the likes of Chelsea and Man United.
