Failing that, the new new Henry would be Gabriel Agbonlahor, the £17m-rated Aston Villa speed-merchant for whom Wenger may move in the summer if he manages to remain consistent. (Guardian)
The one stumbling block preventing a great deal of interest in the Aston Villa striker in recent years has been the lack of consistency shown by Gabriel Agbonlahor up until 18 months or so when he started to perform well regularly and found the back of the net far more often than in his early days at Villa Park. Some would perhaps point to the fact that the 23 year old manages to scrape a dozen goals a season and therefore isn’t exactly prolific without taking into account the other facets to his game.
I can see why Arsene is looking into such a move and it could well be a goer but they will have one hell of a fight on their hands to persuade Martin O’Neill to cash in on the England international. Wenger may be looking to add more English players into his armoury ahead of the up coming ‘homegrown’ Premier League guidelines.
Other members of the top four club may also be interested in getting involved in a potential bidding war but Gabriel may feel he has more of a chance of making an impact at Arsenal as opposed to the likes of Chelsea and Man United.

I think given the fact that he manages a dozen goals a season plus for Villa I can see him scoring twice as much for us.

Unfortunately, I don’t think he is Arsenal class – we could play him in the Carling cup maybe !

Dream on, this is a nothing story.
Gabby’s going nowhere and certainly not for £17 mill.
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
As a Villa fan I’m delighted Gabby is not French. Arsenal class? Do Arsenal have the European Cup in their trophy cabinet? Villa do. Now that’s class.
Arsenal fans…possibly the most boring, dull, pathetic fans in the prem.

I think Arsenal should consider themselves being told to f**k right off in the very near future. Who writes this rubbish?

@ 3:44 pm -A European cup does not make you a big club in that case Nottingham forest is a bigger club than Villa. Arsenal 13 league titles and 10 FA cups and the only club in Europe to qualify for champion’s league 10 years running now that is class. As for Bangahor I hope we don’t buy him he is just not good enough. Maybe Chelsea or Liverpool can throw some money at you.

I love the Villa fan bringing up their European Cup from ages ago. Is that the last thing you’ve won? F**k off to the Europa League.
anonymous - November 26th, 2009 at 6:24 am
It was only seven years ago Villa were almost relegated, so let’s not get too excited about a European Cup from the early 80s.

Gaby Agbonlahor is a good striker bt lacks consistency.its very evident in his last season performance.i tink Arsene shud flex muscle wit Ferguson,Rafa,& Ancelloti for Carlton Cole’s signature.

Wenger really has to try hard to prise him Away from Villa, Gabby is a Villa fan. He is like another Gerrard at Liverpool or Giggs at Man Utd.
He has already said he doesn’t care about playing for England just playing for his club Aston Villa, if he gets picked for England then its a bonus.
I must laugh at the Arsenal fans moaning about Villa all of a sudden you never had a bad thing to say about them before they became competition & nearly knocked you out of the top 4 last year, beat you convincingly at Emirates & should of been 4-0 up in the 1st half on boxing day at Villa park (yes I watched both them games). Its Villa vs. Arsenal again this boxing day too!

When people say support your local team, they are not considering, background, for example my dad is from London and has supported Arsenal since he was a kid in a family of Spurs fans, although I live in Basingstoke, my London background, makes your comment rather dumb, this is for anyone who has that mentality, I am no glory hunter I have supported them since 98 when I was 4
